I have nothing good to say about this school... if you have an issue you have no way of knowing if it was handled. They care more about protecting their staff than caring for the students. Bullying is at an all new level when the school is whose doing it
I don't know what Alhambra is like nowadays, but when I went there back in the late 60s early 70s, it was an awesome school. The marching band would win state and they even played in the Rose Parade (if I remember right), the Choralettes won many honors, the football team was awesome as well as the basketball team, and the drama team was super. Teachers and staff were awesome and really cared for the students. The cheerleaders came home with the Spirit Stick many times. We were a very proud school; proud of the scarlet, green, and white. In 1969, we went in with 1500 students and I believe we graduated close to 1000 in 1973. The Might Lions rule!
I graduated from AHS in 1991...My first two years at Alhambra were great . No incidents to speak of. Junior ,and senior year you saw a bit more violent activity taking place...It is what it is. Overall I don't regret attending Alhambra. The teachers there at the time were priceless.Whether you hated them,or loved them. I know Alhambra has had many face lifts since the last time I walked on that campus. which is a positive thing. Look bottom line I have no clue as to how the students,or faculty are. Are they good? Are they bad? who knows! But it is what you make of it. Students choose to learn, and faculty chooses to care. Then things look rosey. If not then it becomes a bad school. Its all up to who is there now...careful we're watching....
Take it from someone who's been there and done that. DONT send you kids to this school. The staff is arrogant and don't listen to their students Only a handful of teachers care but its not worth the frustration dealing with security and administration who believe they are always right and refuse to listen to a student. I am a straight A student who never caused trouble and I was made to feel worthless and shamed. My siblings are now attending a different high school after my family has had such a horrible experience with just administration let alone the violent environment. I would give negative stars to this school.
I truley enjoy waking up in the morning knowing i have the opportunity to go to alhambra high (ahs) an awesome school. Durning 8th grade, i heard alot of ppl say tht they weren't going to ahs because of the rumors tht go around about it.. Tht kind of got me upset and at the time i said to myself they are the ones tht are going to miss out on all staff support as well as the cousiling ahs provides. ahs is also greatly known for all if the extracurricular activities clubz and sportz. Hope u take this school in concideration class of 2014!!!! Not to mention the student government body iz an awesome bunch... AHS STUGO!!!!!! lets go lions!!
it's where i graduated high school. Honest to God Alhambra has so much potential, but with the budget cuts, this school has been deprived of so much that can help the kids expand. please consider this High School.
I am a alumni of alhambra i went there all four years from 2003 to 2006. i belive it is a wonderful school. The teachers are great and go above and beyond for the students they really care. My nephew attends alhambra and loves it.
I am an alhmbra high school student and feel that the school has too many students and either pays too much attention to those 'smart' kids and those 'troubled'. I however am between and feel they do not give as much attention too. I really wish that they have a better staff of counselors as well they messed up my schedule and I had to go to night school for their mistakes!!! please don't attend not worth it.
This school has an excellent counseling department lead by Ms. Burnand. They have a great college program and University club to increase college attendance. Ms. Baumhaver has a special program to help student achieve admission to top colleges. The counselors are very hard working and believe in the students. In one year, the school raised over 10 million in scholarships. The counselors have worked to have college night, financial aid programs, and college admission program into ASU, Uof A and NAU. Wow, they have done wonderful job.
First of all I dont know why people who have never attended Alhambra High School comment about it. I graduated from AHS on May and I dont regret studying there the 4 yers of high school. I loved it!!!! I already miss it! Now Im ready to attend ASU on August. Ill have in mind all the advices my teachers gave me. Special thanks to Ms. Godemann (business and computers teacher) shes been my business and computers teacher since freshmen year. Go Liiiiooooooooooooooooooooooons! Also, Alhambra Class of 2009 broke the record in scholorship money from the Phoenix Union High Achool District. I bet you people didnt know that
I have been attending Alhambra since my freshman year. At first my parents weren't too convinced on allowing me to attend Alhambra because of the reputation it has. I'll be a junior the next year, and I don't regret the choice I made to attend Alhambra. I have all honors classes, and a 3.8 GPA. I met the AIMS writing and exceeded the AIMS reading on the 1st try. To be honest, The two years that I have been there I have definately seen improvement. The school has become more strict about dress code and behavior. Parents should be more involved so they know EXACTLY what's going on. I clearly will be able to function in the real world, as Alhambra AND my parents are teaching me. overall, this a great school! GO LIONS!
This school is terrible. As an educational institution, it is half correct. There is no education happening here but it is definitely an institution. From terrible behavior of both students and teachers, to dress code, this place is a disaster. Do not send your child here if you expect them to be able to function in any part of the real world.
Dr Herrera and Ms. Christenson are the best teachers in campus. Teachers are the best quality Alhambra High School has. The ladies from the office are not good. They never answer phone calls or attend atudents when they are supposed to.
I Graduated AHS in 2004, my experience there was by far like any other h.s your going to go to. They have its ups and downs. Teachers are VERY helpful! they like to see their students accomplish in life, they are there for you before and after school, if need be. I did however question some of the security guards there, but however they were very nice, and never let any kind of argument esculate to somthing worse. Great School overall...Wouldnt have changed anything! GO LIONS!! :)
This school is great... itz my second year and my grades are great!!! Wen I first came to the school I had heard alot of bad rumorz of it ...everyone is friendly and kind......they dont let there students run al wild...come on thatz funni to hear...there realli into not havin cellfones in class they have to be turned off...and hearfones are only aloud during lunch and in the mornings and after school...am realli glad i go here...and plus they have the medical magnet program...in which am in...tatz even makes the school better...so yea i would say tat if ur a good student then y would u have problems...and if ur one of the other problemed kids...then ur just findin problems just lik at any other high school!!! Its great so dont talk if u dont no nothing about this school!!!!
I have had problems with teachers and administration from day one. The children run wild and are allowed to bring music and headphones to class disrupting the rest of the students who want to learn. There is absolutely no sort of dress code. Teachers have no control over the students. I am in the process of finding an alternative school for my soon to be freshman son as I know he will not be challenged at Alhambra academically or morally. A bad experience overall.
My son has attended Alhambra High School since his freshman year and has excelled in his studies. My son entered his freshman year with some obstacles he was facing and the team at Alhambra involved my son and us as parents in the goals he was to accomplish that year. I have been included throughout the 4 years in my sons activities, grades, truancy (not a problem) on a regular basis. I have bee pleasantly surprised and overjoyed at the way my son has been treated at Alhambra. I was a little scared at first because the school is so large, but my son stuck to his studies and other activities and has already passed the AIMS tests and will be graduating this year. Thank you Alhambra.
I think that the education is good but there are way to many fights. I am gald that my daughter is going there she really likes the cheer squad. I think that if your child wants to be challenged he/she should go here. My daughter has been going here for 3 years and she gets along with everyone just great. The standards foor this school is really good.
Teachers here were a great support in helping achieve goals. Learning expirience was good.
