Benchmark could be such a great school. The parental interaction with the teachers is wonderful and I believe the teachers do their very best. The students are great and seem to love their teachers. Sure there could be a better physical plant and more technology integration, but the teachers and kids are pretty great. The science rooms is excellent. Were the school falters is with the parental interaction with Principles. Some examples, The Principles changed the lunch program right before school started without notifying parents. Now the expensive fast food lunch doesn't even offer milk. All without parental input. PTA fund raising monies were mostly spent on facility maintenance without meaningful parental input. There was a recent lock down, there was no parental notification. Security is poor and the main gate remains unlocked all day despite parents concerns. I will be taking my child out ASAP because the Principles don't see the parents as customers. The Principles appear uninterested and they are quick to dismiss or ignore parental input. The waiting list must create this mindset. There is no meaningful school board, so there are no checks and balances.

I agree with all the recent posts about this school. Maybe at one time it WAS a great school. Maybe the waiting list to get in went to at least one principal's head. But as a family who did wait outside overnight to send our kids here a few years ago, we are finding out this school is not what we thought. The teachers want Stepford children who act like robots. Any child who is different in any way will not be accepted, and will be bullied by both teachers, administration, and other students. The school has lost multiple students recently, and it's no surprise. My children, who love learning, no longer love school. Something is wrong if that is the case. We'll be pulling out as soon as we research our other options.

Very interesting. That 5 star defensive post which was obviously and inappropriately made by the principles didn't once address the parents reasonable and accurate issue with the security of the school. Sadly, it attacked a parent to whom they have had issues. Were is the Professionalism? Maybe there is something to all these posts about the Principles.

The most recent review of 5 stars is Benchmark administrations' approach to any parental concerns brought to their attention. The best advice for parents who choose Benchmark comes from that review... present your issues and concerns anonymously otherwise you are viewed as a complaining and angry parent with excuses-- who will be outcast. Real accountability and work ethic is doing something about the lack of supervision on the playground during recess and allowing first grade teachers to show over 13 Disney movies in class. When parents bring these concerns to administration, they are told to stop complaining and that their reputation will follow them each year. My child learned a sad work ethic at Benchmark because he was told to watch a movie for two days so the teachers could complete report cards during class. He was told it was part of Common Core, which is complete absurdity. The whole idea of partnership exists if you agree to everything the teachers do, even if it's wrong. It is not a solution based school but a school that bullies parents who are not on board with teachers and administration at all times.

I have found by talking to other parents, that this is the place for kids who have parents that consider themselves partners in their child's education. If you want your child to excel academically, become responsible for their own behavior and work ethic, and become a better friend and citizen, this is the place for them! If not, and you just want to complain and make excuses and get mad when teachers hold your child accountable for work they missed while you were in Disneyland for a week, homeschool them.

I completely 100% agree with the 1 star rating and everything said by "submitted by a teacher". We were thrilled to enroll our daughter at such a highly rated school. We were never informed of any issues with our child until our mid year teacher conference. At that point we were told our child would not be welcome to continue at Benchmark no matter what our child accomplished or learned in the last half of the year. They even implied our child had a learning disability. We immediately withdrew her and put her in a top rated "10" public school. We had her tested through the district and she actually tested above her age level. She is so much happier now! If your child doesn't fit perfectly into the Benchmark mold, the teachers and staff make you feel like there is something wrong with your child. Getting our daughter out of that school was one of the best things we have ever done. In my opinion, the only reason Benchmark is rated a "10" is because they only keep the children who are able to perform at a specific level they expect, which is unrealistic for some children. The ones that require teaching or any extra attention are pushed out. - Disappointed parent

This is interesting. I posted a comment on this blog and it has been removed. It stayed on this blog for a couple of months so it wasn't outside of the guidelines, but it was honest and something all parents should know. Administration and teachers are quite dysfunctional in the manner in which they approach families and children. If a parent has issues and attempts to communicate with the teachers, their response is very intimidating and quite bullying. I found it interesting that a problem I had was how my nephew got to watch Fifteen movies in class thought the school year. When this was brought to the teachers attention a group of five teachers met with the parents and made them feel inferior and demeaned their complaint. I myself am an educator for public schools, so a decision on a charter was difficult for me, and after denoting the several attempts made to communicate legitimate issues, it validated that public education is the better way as someone is held accountable. Administration and teachers here are related in some fashion so if you go above heads it creates more issues than solutions. Talk to other parents before enrolling kids here, trust me!

Prior to having children I knew Benchmark School would be my first choice. Now as a Mother of 3 (2 of which are school aged) I have no doubt in my mind I made the right decision for my family. We have been with Benchmark for 5 years now and love it! The school is amazing in every aspect. Parent involvement is very high and the students benefit greatly from that. We are blessed to have two teachers is every class from Preschool through Elementary. Any negative reviews always come from those pushy, overbearing, and argumentative parents, which unfortunately every school has. My kids tell me all the time their school is the best and that makes me happy as a parent. I don't look forward to the day my kids will no longer be in elementary school, unless the school adds 7th and 8th grade. hint, hint.. THANK YOU BENCHMARK FOR BEING SO WONDERFUL!!! --- PROUD PARENT

Benchmark School - PHX, AZ To the parent, who I suspect posted both the 10/8 & 10/10 reviews, I would like to ask why, when you feel as you do, would you keep your children in Benchmark? If my assessment was as vociferously negative as yours, I would enroll my children in another school. What is in the best interest of my children will always trump what is convenient for me including driving a greater distance to another school. Sometimes parents don t like to hear that their child may have an issue or problem, and become defensive, attacking the messenger, instead of working in concert with one of the wonderful Benchmark principals & teachers who take great personal interest in the well-being of children placed in their care, under their supervision. As the Aunt of a Benchmark student, I know that there is a long list of parents waiting hopefully for spots to open so they can transfer their children to Benchmark. We were overjoyed when our little girl was accepted. The fact that you voluntarily chose to keep your children in Benchmark speaks much louder than your vindictive diatribes. Stop the venom. Shame on you. Support the school like every parent I know or move on.

I would have to agree with the poster that wrote about this issues with the management, the principals in particular. If you spent 5 minutes in the office waiting for your child you know who it is. Having a child that spent 6 years there, if you have an issue with a teacher, you might as well be talking to a brick wall. While 1 star may be harsh when evaluating the education, overall it is within the spirit of the "unsatisfactory" rating because of how incredibly condescending they (she) is when discussing your child's issue or problem. Unfortunately the tone in the front office and makes this place very unwelcoming, unfair in how kids are discipline, with kids of parents they like getting favors and leniency and those that they disagree with not. Do yourself, and your child, a favor and go with one of the recently opened charters such as great heats, basis and other and leave the mind games to them.

As a parent of 3 children that have gone to this school, you will realize one day that the mind games and poor administration of the principals, one in particular, are not worth the anxiety and stress you will go through. There are so many charter school options now for elementary school now, much better than Benchmark, that you will rue the day you sent your kids here.

This school is amazing. Both of my children are happy and learning at their fullest potential. As far as other children leaving for other charter schools, most that we know have all since returned. The teachers are dedicated and have the ability to be creative with their instruction. We highly recommend this school.

Benchmark is a dream come true for parents and students alike. Every teacher is wonderful in my 4 year experience at the school. Each year I think it can't get better than the current year and somehow it does! In my experience, the only disgruntled parents are the ones with struggling students. They move on to other schools looking for something better and then wish they could come back. The wait list continues to grow every year with very good reason, getting in is like winning the lottery. I volunteer often and am always impressed with the wonderfully behaved students. Kids don't need 3+ hours of homework in elementary school, too many parents are confusing busy work for quality education. I only hope Benchmark can get a junior high and high school developed in time for my 3rd grader to not have to switch schools, it would be a shame to break up their wonderful group. Other schools are thrilled to get Benchmark students due to their advanced skills, so no hurry to switch here!

Many families have decided that they don't need to tolerate the administrative issues with the principal now that there are new charter choices. There has been a real brain drain with a lot of higher performing students leaving. To remain competitive, the school needs to realize changes need to be made in the office and also recruit a higher level of teachers particularly in math and science.

Benchmark School provides an environment where any family will feel at home. There are 2 teachers in every class so no child falls behind. All of the teachers are top notch or they will not be allowed to continue to teach there. The principals truly care for each child as if it were their own and are always available to talk at a moments request. The front desk greets you with a smile and can help with any questions or point you in the right direction of someone who can. This school is very unique in that we feel like one large family. It is worth every moment you might stand in line to enroll your child. I have read the negative comments and can honestly say they are just not true. When my children continue on to another school after sixth grade I feel they will be ready to exceed any expectations their future school might have from a child entering at their grade level. I feel truly lucky that we are able to attend this school.

Where else can you get a 15:1 student to teacher ratio, without paying private school prices? Not many, I know because I have looked. The supportive and involved parent community at this school allows us to shelter our children from some of the negative experiences I hear about in public school. I love this school and so do my kids!!

I have two children at this school and the teachers are amazing. We left our public school due to class size and a deficient science and math ciriculum. Both of my children are exelling academically and are very happy at Benchmark.

I have a 2nd grader and a pre-k student this year. Our kids receive amazing individual attention as each class has 2 full time teachers. My oldest falls probably in the middle of his class academically, and i feel certain that he would be left behind at a traditional public school. It's a small community that has many wonderful traditions. It continues to be an academic success thanks to the amazing teaching staff and an administration that understands what it takes to be Great!

My son just finished kindergarten at Benchmark and looks forward to returning for first grade. The teachers and staff are amazing, parents are all involved, and facilities feel safe and welcoming. I am thrilled with this school and always recommend it to others. Space is limited, which is nice because faculty has more flexibility with addressing a child s individual needs. Everyone working with Benchmark truly has the children s' best interests at heart in all that they do and I greatly appreciate that!

My son and daughter attended this school for over 5 years. They enjoyed it most of the time. Benchmark is very strong in math. It has given both my kids an excellent foundation in math and reading. They group kids based on ability which is good for the kids because it challenges them on their level. In the upper grades though, it seems to cause some social conflict, in that there seems to be a lot of comparisons going on about what group certain kids are in. I believe the prinicipals, while not super outgoing, have their hearts in the right place. They can be somewhat hard to communicate with at times. Overall, this is a great school and I would send my kids there again.

This school is, bar none, the best possible elementary school you can find! I found this school when my daughter was struggling in her first grade class. The teacher was submitting nothing but "paper and pencil" assignments. We love Benchmark because it encourages creativity and uses several different teaching styles! Best of all, it levels the children off so each child is working at the level that is BEST for them! My son just finished their Pre-K program and I am astonished at the amount he has learned this year. "Mommy, that is not a diamond, that is called a rhombus" (he was 4 at the time) I love this school so much that when I graduated with my teaching degree, I immediatly applied at this school...unfortunately, (for me, not you) they have such a low turnover rate, that nothing was available! I will keep on trying! I will sing Benchmarks praises to anyone and everyone I meet. If you are looking for somewhere where your child will grow socially, emotionally, and most importantly, educationally, you have found it! There is a reason it has a rating of 10!

My daughter and son go to this school. My daughter started in Kindergarden then left for another school in second grade to another "Excelling" school. The other school was nice and had 'hug' days but academically did not challenge my daughter the way she needed to be challenged. We came back to Benchmark for 3rd grade. She loves it there! The teachers believe in educating the kids and keeps the bar high because they know these kids can do the work and do it well.

As a TEACHER/PARENT of Benchmark I am dismayed by the comment about the teachers of Benchmark. I am currently certified to teach in two states and have a degree in psychology in addition to a teaching certificate. I also have a Master's degree in education. I also take classes, at my own expense and as required by the state. Your child s teacher is an important ally and useful resource when it comes to raising your child. Go for the we attitude instead of the me attitude and work with your child's teacher to help your child have a great school year.Obviously some parents (not all) at our school have the "me" attitude. I certainly don't have the 'me" attitude when I spend hundreds of hours each year planning interesting lessons to engage students when I could be spending it with my own children and family. I guess my hours of planning are a waste since the parents do all the work. To that parent: Spend less time gossiping in the parking lot and reflect more on yourself and your child. Concerned about turnover, think about it. Are you the reason some teachers leave? I know I think of career changes after dealing with some parents.

Our daughters have spent the past 6 years at Benchmark, and this school is top notch in every way. The academic education they received at Benchmark has surpassed all our expectations. Our 3 girls are avid readers, math whizzes and well-versed in both historical and current events. The curriculum is challenging and interesting. We can't say enough positive things about the teachers and the administrators; they clearly love teaching and working with children. Our experience at Benchmark has been overwhelmingly positive, and our girls love learning. Sadly, we are relocating to another state and have left the school. We can only hope to find another school that will inspire and support our kids' love of learning as much as Benchmark has. A big "THANK YOU" for a quality education!

This is to address the review about all teachers not being certified. I know that when they are audited, they have to show that all teachers are certified. I know first hand that these private schools you pay an arm and a leg for do not staff all certified teachers. My 3 kids have/are going through this school. My oldest has moved on to middle school with 4 other Benchmark students. All five of them tested into advanced math and one tested 2 grade levels ahead. Also out of 150 students in English, 5 were recommended to follow the advanced track. 4 of the 5 were former Benchmark. If this does show what kind of product Benchmark produces, I don't know what does. The kids are well prepared and transition easily to a new school. As with any school, you may have a teacher you don't see eye to eye with or an issue with admin. No school is 100% perfect, but Benchmark comes pretty close. We've been more than thrilled with it!

The best way to know about your child's success at their elementary school, is after they move on to middle. Our kids have moved on and are thriving in all honors programs, with all A's. They have excellent social skills, they are better prepared than most of their classmates, and are on track for top honors in high school, AP programs and academic scholarships. Hopefully Benchmark's parents know how lucky they are. Thank you Benchmark.

Benchmark is flat out THE best public elementary school in Arizona. What the school leadership has built here is a hidden gem. The curriculum is top notch with Singapore Math leading the way and the reading\language arts has the emphasis on phonics over whole word nonsense. The science lab out shines every elementary school in the area but you cannot beat the 15 to 1 student to teacher ratio (STR). Students are ability grouped to make sure those that need help get it and those who excel are pushed. No child at either end of the ability spectrum is left behind. This setup makes Benchmark not only unique (no other public school comes close to this STR) but truly a superior choice for your child.

Where do I start. This is my second child going through the Benchmark curriculum and despite dramatically different learning levels, they both prosper. I really believe this is inherent to their model. Each grade has 2 classrooms and 4 FT teachers- and then based on learning levels they break out into four learning groups with coherent transfer of students from one group to the next as they progress in a particular content area. Gone is the bell curve where teachers are forced to teach to the middle performers. This allows real education to occur for the masses, for the gifted and for those that are struggling. Smart, Smart. Although they do not have a formal gifted program, I can say with confidence that my youngest who is lucky enough to be quite gifted has received all the needed attention to remain engaged, focused and loving the education process. Surprisingly for a Charter they have ample extra curricular programs to meet most any interest. People always ask, why a charter? My answer is simple- its not the path of least resistance. Charter parents are going that extra mile for their kids with the small things that add up, packing lunches, dropping off and picking up their children daily, arranging play dates because school mates are not necessarily in the neighborhood. I like the idea of my child connecting with children whose parents are willing to go that extra mile. The campus is impeccable, the administration organized, the teachers committed, the parents going the extra mile, I think all of these things together make for a excellent educational experience.

I am a teacher trainer and former mentor and coach of classroom teachers. I have been in hundreds of classrooms to observe and assist teachers with improving their craft. I have taught at the college level as well as in the elementary school, studying brain research, and writing and implementing integrated thematic instruction. Therefore, I am aware of not only what makes sense in the education of students, but also what works best for a happy, creative child like my daughter, Hannah. I chose Benchmark because it reflects best practices methodology, both in curricular focus and in meeting the needs of all students - whatever their temperament. Great staff, great administration, fabulous parent involvement, and precious kids make Benchmark the best!

The teachers really cared and they understood the kids as individuals and adjusted to meet their needs. We unfortunately needed to switch from Benchmark this school year to a school closer to our house. My son always tells me that he wants to go back to Benchmark & if we even say the name 'Benchmark' he gets all excited and happy. I loved the field trips, science lab, the garden, and the special activities and events that were happening all the time. The student-to-teacher ratio was great! In the higher grades the Singapore Math & Core Knowledge curriculum really enhances the education. The school is large enough to have a nice facility, but small enough to still feel like a family. I recommend Benchmark to everyone I talk to.

A solid education, talented and caring teachers, a nice new campus with excellent facilities, a healthy community, lots of great activities and events, etc. We could go on and on - Singapore Math, Core Knowledge curriculum, lots of creative opportunities - it is such a well-balanced, yet fun place to be. Benchmark divides their grades into 4 levels of reading, math, etc. (gifted programs too) - small classes that help the kids learn best and progress upward. We have really enjoyed Benchmark and are thankful for our time there; it's just a very wonderful and comfortable place to be!

We are very pleased with this school, the teachers, faculty/staff, and the other parents. I love the parent involvement and the opportunity to participate in my child's day. The teacher/child ratio is great and I love how the children break out into groups based on their skill levels. My son is challenged at the level he is ready for and not grouped into learning at a level that may not be right for him. We are amazed at what he learns every day and are happy to be part of Benchmark!

We truly enjoyed Benchmark School, which my son attended for 7 years. The school prepares the whole child in every aspect, and enriches them with a creative learning process. The school is very community friendly and encourages parent involvement. Benchmark not only educates but encourages them and helps develope a confident young person. The teachers and princlpals make a caring and creative enviroment for childrens learning. It is truly a remarkable school.

I grew up overseas and had many concerns about the quality of the public education in the US in general. My first kid attended an 'Excelling' public school in one of the best districts in Phoenix, but she came home saying how boring and how long the day was. She was not challenged at all. I was fortunate to be able to transfer her to Benchmark starting in 3rd grade, and enrolled my second kid in preschool. What a difference! We love everthing about the school, from the academics to the parent involvement. My husband and I are both engineers and we are happy with the strong focus on Math and Science in the school. But what really makes a difference, is that the teachers really care and understand the developmental levels of each student, and they know how to make learning fun for the kids. The school is very hands on on their approach to learning. My kids are the ones in a hurry to get to school in the morning, looking forward to the activities they have for the day. My kids love going to Benchmark, and they are constantly challenge to do their best. If you have high standards when it comes to education, Benchmark does not dissapoint.

Our daughter entered Kindergarten at Benchmark this year. She has a very late birthday and I was worried about her getting 'lost in the crowd' in a public school. The children are taught their subjects in a 1:15 teacher/child ratio...and are put into four different groups based on skill level. Therefore, every child is taught on their 'growing edge' and no one falls through the cracks. I can't say enough about the amazing staff and fabulous principals at this school. We feel very lucky to be a part of it.

This is a school that takes a personal approach to every student. The Principals know these kids, know what is going on in their lives, and go over and above whenever there is a need. The teaching staff believes in meeting each child wherever they are on the learning curve, and continually seek out ways to help them understand, with the belief that every child can learn, not on the same day, and not in the same way. A++ does not begin to show the merits this school deserves!

I spent a lot of time looking for a great school to send my daughter and Benchmark has been wonderful for her. The teachers are wonderful and the curriculum is creative, challenging and really helps her learn in many ways. The science lab is awesome! Parent involvement is pretty much expected but that is OK for us since we believe that it is important to show our daughter that school is important. Communication by teachers is good but communication by the school is marginal. The school also has a lot of rules - luckily the teachers are flexible in using common sense. Net, it is not all perfect but Benchmark is excellent at the things that are truly important to her education.

We have been at Benchmark school for six years. At the end of each year, I reflect on how much our children have grown both academically and socially. The teachers are responsive , involved, and approachable. The curriculum is hands-on, fun, and fosters a love of learning in our children. Not only do they receive wonderful classroom experiences, but they feel part of a larger community. The parents, teachers, and administration collaborate to create wonderful events that bring the families together. We are very happy with our childrens' experiences at this school .

My children attended Benchmark for two years. We were happy with the first year, but into the second year and third year, we began to have serious concerns. Problems with teacher turnover and communication with teachers and school staff was poor. The administration is very defensive, combative, and does not deal well with simple problems. This school suffers from poor administration, low cademic standards, and too concern about their image and less about the children they teach. Every morning it was very hard to get our children to school because they are not happy at the school and does not enjoy their teacher's company - which is very sad. Teachers are to inspire not discourage children from school/education. Its a shame because our children are our next future. We are now in a much better school (public) and my children love it! Thank goodness.

The nice thing about schools is people have a choice where they take their children. Our choice has been Benchmark Elementary since our children were in Kindergarten. Now they are in 4th and 6th grade, and are testing two years ahead of the National average. I have watched their progress very closely over the years and am so thankful that my wife and I chose this school. The schools' Principals and Teachers care greatly for the children of this school and work tirelessly to give them the best education and learning environment possible. We are so thankful to them for 7 years of nothing but excellence! Thank you Benchmark!!

My son alsolutely loves this school! He has wonderful relationships with the teachers and I can tell they really care about him as a person. I was most impressed by the administration caring about each child who walks in the door. Again, I rate this school highly based on my children's positive classroom experiences. The administration continues to be aloof, unapproachable, condescending, judgemental, unprofessional, and poor role models for the children, parents, and teachers. Only one of the directors truly has a say in how the school is run, when the other is more capable. One of the directors treatment of parents and staff is truly unacceptable and always has and will be. Somehow, my children continue to receive an excellent education each year. It must be accredited to the supreme parent involvement and the wonderful teachers who hang in there as long as they can.

Our child started at Benchmark in September. We've been very impressed with the education and school. They try to make the learning real and really engage the children. They also keep parents in the loop by making you sign off on completed homework, quizzes, etc. periodically or when a grade is below a certain percentage. Lastly, they offer alot of afterschool progarms on-site. Overall, we feel it is a very safe, supportive and challenging environment.

Benchmark addresses special needs of students through its school nurse and physical therapist, who can help parents plan for transition to middle school for special needs children, more than might be expected in district schools. There is an emphasis on civility and a bully-free environment and I have always seen all the teachers behave well, something I cannot say about all the parents. There is less funding than is enjoyed by public schools. Expect to pay/volunteer more than a ps. The number of students in each classroom is high, compensated somewhat by teachers working together in teams. The teachers may be stressed more by some of the parents than the students, which has led to administration policies that descourage parents from informally communicating with them. Parents are required to help see homework projects are done.

This being her first year at this school we have been so amazed at her progress and even moreso the dedication of each individual teacher to the needs of each and every student based on their specific skills and needs. My daughter started Benchmark this year and I can already see the difference. When we first dropped her off she would cry and beg us not to leave her. Two days later she gets up in the morning and sings about going to school. She has learned so much and comes home with such a positive attitude. She is a gifted child in the sense of how smart she is but Benchmark has taken her to another level. Just the little things like knowing how to spell her name, songs she sings adding and she even tries to read. I am amazed!

We are impressed by the quality of education at Benchmark. It uses a very engaging and hands-on approach to learning. Last year we were attending a top rated public school, and the difference in quality of teachers and curriculum between the public school and Benchmark is clear. Last year my kids were bored with the 'teach to the average' approach. Now they are having fun while they learn at the right pace for their skills. My husband was skeptic about the school, but now he is the first one to admit the difference and compliment the school. Preshool program is fantastic. We highly recommend it.

We feel fortunate that we were able to get into Benchmark school, as we were high on the wait list. Most importantly, my kids love going to school and can't wait to get back this year. They love the principals, the teachers, and their friends. Academically, I think Benchmark is hard to beat. Benchmark has two 'excellent' music teachers, a dedicated art teacher and a fantastic gardening/outdoor educational program. There are an abundance of choices for after school extracurricular activities, and my kids even love going to the aftercare program for fun. Parental involvement has been quite extensive. The only things lacking, in my opinion, are an indoor multipurpose facility and a professional librarian.

I am a graduated student of benchmark and I have to say that it is a unique school. I have been attending there since kindergarten, me and my family still new to america. I was very shy but my family was welcomed with open arms. Throughout my years in benchmark, I won awards and had tons of memories to cherish. I gained confidence I never knew I could have from friends and especially from my teachers. I learned things I wouldn't have learned from other schools. If I never went to benchmark I would never have been this prepared for the future. We did great projects and tons of writing and I miss it all. I understand things aren't as great as they once were, but benchmark gave me a kind of knowledge that I just can't seem to find elsewhere.

I am shocked at the negative reviews that I just read. I had very high expectations when my child started at Benchmark School and they have exceeded all of them! My daughter was reading chapter books in Kindergarten and was doing multiplication and division in first grade. She loves school and is excited to go back in the fall for second grade. The nice thing about Benchmark is that if you don't like it you can leave...there are lots of people on waiting lists that would be happy to take your spot! The teachers and administration are outstanding. I look forward to finding out what my kids will be learning next year! Thank you for your commitment to providing a world class education to our kids! This school has been a wonderful experience for my child and she has flourished academically in ways she would never have in any other environment. The adminisration, however, is deploable and socially inept. Thank goodness they no longer are in the classroom so that the high quality staff they have had the sense to hire and the curriculum that has been implemented can enable the school to excel as it has. A school is only as strong as the top down and evenually the administrations' strong weaknesses will lead to this schools destruction. If they could accept reasonable and sincere feedback from parents and provide an atmosphere where parents and school work together, there might be hope, but I do not see the two directors 'allowing' this to happen. If your child is gifted and you require little or no contact with the front office,Benchmark is your school without a doubt! If not run!

Our family is also surprised by the recent poor reviews. My children have been there for five years with amazing success. The curriculum has been extra challenging at times and the advanced math program in the upper grades is phenomenal. I've seen the teachers dress-up as colonists and have been involved in the Art Masterpiece program. The kids create so many hands-on projects, it's hard for a parent to know what to do with them. My guess is that the 'unexpected turnover in staff' noted by a reviewer was truly unexpected by the management, who always seem to have the best needs of the students at heart.

I'm shocked to read the recent reviews of Benchmark. My children have attended this school for six years and love going to school every day. We have found the teachers to be intelligent, caring, and interested in stimulating our children's minds with excellently prepared hands-on lessons. I completely disagree with the assertion that math and science are the only important subjects at this school. Teachers dress up and act out parts of famous people in history. The Art Masterpiece program at the school is incredible. Most amazingly, every month the Cultural Committee sponsors dancers, poets, musicians, and other professionals to come to the school and perform for the students. My children are receiving the best education in the Valley, and we'll be sorry when they have to graduate and move on.

We have been at Benchmark several years. My sons attended preschool and are now in elementary. The core knowledge curriculum with many hands-on science and social studies activities is a highlight of the experience. The Singapore math program has been challenging and a great experience for my son who is gifted in math. He reports that his competitive math teacher is in his 'teacher hall of fame'. Unfortunately, teacher ability and experience do vary, as charter schools often have a fair amount of turnover in teaching staff. We have also had some difficulty in communication and consistency with getting one of my son's special education needs met. Parents are very involved and the principles respond appropriately to feedback. Overall, I think that it has been a good choice for us.

We have been in the preschool for 1 year and find the teacher quality to be excellent - there was some movement in the Pre K this year with some new teachers and the quality is not that of the preschool teachers. This is still an excellent school because of their ethics, values as far as how they treat their students and how they expect their students to treat each other, and for their approach to academics. Their 1st priority is to teach the children a love of learning that they hope will last a lifetime. Parent involvement is very high at this school.

The academic programs have consistantly placed the school in the 90%category or above by most standardized tests. The school atmosphere is family-like and safe. It is a place where children are respected and appreciated for the blessings that they are. This is reflected by the academic and social growth accomplishments of the children. The teachers appear to enthusiastically go beyond what is expected of them to further the children's growth. The administrators are very skilled and beyond. The parent participation abounds. The school is modern, clean and appears to meet every need for learning. Communication between the parents, children and school personnel is excellent. Opportuinites for the childrens'exposure, exploration and experience go beyond any other school that I have ever witnessed. We have been blessed to have discovered Benchmark and have the experience of this excellent school that is setting a grand social and scholastic foundation for our precious child.

Great school. Two teacher per class is very rare in Phoenix. Secured campus and easy pick up and drop off. Singapore math taught here is terrific.

The academic programs are first-rate, but even students who are average (like one of my children) are given respect and attention. They really do try to help each child reach their full potential. The kids are learning at an accelerated rate, but they manage to keep learning fun. They make a strong effort to add enriching art, music, and cultural programs. An Arts & Cultural committee funded by the PTA brings in cultural programs several times a year in addition to weekly art & music classes. There are a large variety of extracurricular actvities available after school, including dance, karate, chess, tennis, and team sports. Parental involvement is extremely high, but there is no mandatory number of volunteer hours. The school is also a nice size at about 400 students, not too big or too small. No school is perfect, but Benchmark must be about as close as you can get.

This was our first year at Benchmark and our daughter was in the MWF 4year old program. It has been a wonderful experience. The individual attention and the enthusiasim of the teachers has been fantastic. Our daughter has learned so much this year and has enjoyed every moment of it. We are really looking forward to next year and all the new and wonderful learning experiences.

The parent-teacher-principal relationship at this school is what really makes it special. Academically it excels. It feels like home.
