classes are large, teachers seemed overwhelmed

I love this school and all of the people who make up the staff. They really care about the kids and watch out for their safety. The only gripe I would have is the lack of involvement by the other parents. There are more staff members in the Parent Teacher Organization than there are parents. I think if more parents would get involved, maybe more kids would too, therefor keeping them out of trouble.

My child attended Barry grades 1-4. She scored we in AIMS, and the teachers did work with me on following thru on her homework assignments. However she never learned cursive writing at all and never seemed to be challenged in her homework, which was never more than a one page hadnout that only took 15 minutes to complete. The teachers seemed to spend much of their focus on maintaining control of their huge classes and as a result were exhausted. There was little possibility for advancement for children with gifted ability, other than shipping them out to the district gifted program at another school. However even in that program, the classes which the gifted students weren't gifted the students were required to attend regular classes on less a par than most other districts. My child is now playing catch up at another district.

The academic programs at this school is not challenging enough. My child finishes his homework in less than 15 minutes. He gets in trouble more than he learns at school. The activities here are not good. He comes home complaining all the time. I attend everything this school has because I want to know what is going on.
