Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My children have been going here since jumpstart. They have had excellent teachers who have really cared for them personally and academically.

I went to this school about 12 years ago and I have to say it was the worst school I have ever been to. The entire 8th grade year we only had a "permanent teacher" for 2 weeks at most. On average our permanent teachers were only there for three days before mysteriously disappearing. The subs never even attempted to teach anything and would literally sit at the desk and read the news paper. I blame this school for wasting a year of my life and holding my education back at such a critical time.

I have 2 children who have attended Copper King their entire elementary years and both have thrived and loved it. Educating children is not only the teachers and schools responsibility but it is the parents responsibility as well. The only problem I have encountered at Copper King is lack of parent involvement.

The school over all is fine, But I think the teachers need to spend more time teaching the kids,Then being invalid in the personnel business

Great school! Needs after school sports. Kids need a chance to be ready for high school sports. I think after school programs would really involve parents with the school and make the school known.

Wow what can I say about this school. I am very greatful my child only attended this school for a little over a month. At the same time I feel bad that I had to place my child in this school. I can not say one good thing about this school. If you care about your child you will not place them in a horriable learning enviroment, that is copper king!

It's a great school and teachers are great and very helpful with kids. I've had a wonderful experience since my godson has been going to Cooper King Elementary School and have met the most wonderful teachers and helpers in the school. Great School!

I have two kids in this school. One in 8th grade the other in 3rd. Their teachers are really good, I like their system and the way that they involve the student. I think that the lack of involvement of the parents is not a school issue at least in this case.

This is probably one of the worst schools that I have had my children in. The teachers will not communicate with the parents even when you are in a face to face meeting. The principal has no regard for the concerns of the parents. There are teachers here that are doing a good job, just not enough of them.

I have transfered my kids twice in the last 2 years in search for a better school. This school year for my kids has been better situation in all. I had an issue with a child picking on my child and it was taken care of quickly and reasonably. The principle did take both sides of the childrens story- and disciplined both of them accordingly, as my child was not telling the whole truth. The education has by far surpassed the previous 'alternative/charter school-waste of a year' and other public school. I do agree that they do need extra ciricular activities that will be useful, such as drama, spanish, etc- that other public schools have. I will have to post later as the school year goes on.

I am very diappointed in this school and the fact that we don't have many choices on this side of town so go to an alternate school. There are 29 children in my child's class and it is still growing. The parking lot situation has been a problem for years. The principal and superintendant are unresponsive to everyone. There is also a poor PE program, and no drama or anything. They have socials which are useless.

My daughter entered this school in the 8th grade and loved it. She loved the teachers. The only complaint that we had was that they sent out notices last minute. Also, the 8th grade teachers would promise their classes rewards like pizza, ice cream, etc, for various things. Then the day before the reward was to be given they would send a notice home to the parents that X amount of $ was needed for the child and their reward. We didn't agree w/that practice since the teachers promised it, not the parents and what about the parents that couldn't afford these last minute costs. The teachers need to communicate things like that w/the parents prior to promising the students and allow the parents time to prepare for the unforeseen expense.

I think the teachers could use a little bit more training in the classrooms to keep the kids interested in school. The enthusiasm of teaching is not there. They are repremanding kids more then they are teaching them. They also need to talk to the children, before punishing them, every child is different, they are from different backgrounds and different situation. You can not punish every child the same way. I as a parent get involved with my childs classrooms, But when I help at home the teachers need to follow up at school. Overall the school needs to make a few changes and make there classrooms fun, But still teach like I said before the enthusiasm of teaching is not there. So lets do something about that. Thank You.

My child was involved in a multi-age classroom which was a great learning experience. My child was in this setting for both first and second grade. The program was discontinued although many parents agreed this was a wonderfull learning environment for the chilodren to excel at their own pace. I feel that the teachers have a lot of extra training any use technology a lot in the classroom. The only things that I don't like about the school are the lack extra-curricular activities and the unbelievably useless physical education program. The children in the second and third grade don't know how to play games like kickball or any other game that requires team effort, the staff take very little effort to teach kids how to participate in team sports. Our children's physical education is far lacking from the standards 10 years ago. Do we still have the Presidents physical Fitness Standards?

I believe my daughter is getting a great education but do believe that the teachers and principal need to enforce teasing and name calling. My daughter comes home crying from kids that tease her and nothing is done about it.

The communication between parents and teachers is very poor. I would try to get my daughters teachers to communicate with me on how my daughter was doing, all I would get is she is fine...until report card time came around, then it was a different story. This school is more focused on doing paperwork than on educating our children. the teachers demonstrate a lack of feeling and concern. I have since taken my daughter out of this school, and placed her in another. Her grades have dramatically gone up, she has found it easier to make friends, and the faculty is wonderful in communicating my daughters ups and downs.

I have very mixed emotions about this school. On one hand I and my children have met some of the best teachers in the world. On the other hand we have had issues with some of the other staff, which I find appalling. This school has a lot of issue with racial decimations. The majority of the staff at this school chooses to believe the Caucasian children over the children of color, and never allow those children to explain their situation, or hear their side of the story, or they just turn there back all together. These children deserve the same right as the Caucasian children. And I also believe that this issue starts with the principal of the school. And no one does anything about it. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

School has a caring principal, unfortunately she is in a district that is badly mismanaged. Superintendent has a hands off attitiude and leaves everything to his assistant. Zero tolerance desperately needs to be taken to the harrasment/name calling level and is not consistently managed. Definete favorites at this school. Asst Principals do not equally distribute discipline. That's why the principal is so great is she's not afraid to step up where her assistants aren't. I just hope she gets a good one for 2004-2005.

Overall this school is good. Most teachers are very communicative. But something does need to be done about the lunch program, children are throwing food away because they do not have enough time to finish it and are rushed out of the cafeteria. My child comes home every day hungry because she does not have the time to finish her food. Also talked to other parents they complain about the same issue.

I have three children that have attended this school over the past few years. One has graduated and is now moving onto High school. I must say that that the teachers are mostly there to give our children a better start in life, but there are the few that are really there for unknown reasons. There should be more communication between the teachers/principal and the parents. As for the saftey of our children all the staff needs to wake up and smell the coffee and please start to really enforce the rules for everyone. Any student there could walk right off school grounds and no one would ever notice, also the parking lot for visitors is always a mess and loaded with with teachers vehicles, when they have another parking area there that is suppose to be for them. The principal herself is wonderful, I have dealt with her several times in the past for various reasons, but the assistant principal needs work and the nurse is just a handful of attitude. Hope this school will be able to get things running in the right direction before to long.
