My child has attended Adams Pre-K, K & 1st. FYI Our 13 yr old attends Deer Valley so we have "outside" view. Adams CONS: lots of hmwrk & requirements (book rpts, reading logs, poems, etc) so lots to keep track of, as parent I feel I am teaching vs. encouraging w/hmwrk, VERY high standards - maybe a little too high? school/parent communication could improve, uses Spalding/Singapore methods which r great but most parents don't know so hard to help w/hmwrk (perhaps school needs to remember and offer assistance more) PROS: Child is doing well (little stressed over hmwrk), love uniforms & "stricter" atmosphere (less noise/chaos/respect required), Principal/staff open to talk & resolve issues, curriculum hard but gives child opportunity to achieve great levels that may not have been pushed at other schools. Results so far - GREAT my 1st grader is reading chapter books!! Overall, we are pleased w/Adams. After almost 3 yrs there I would still make same choice. If u r looking at Adams be sure to consider they do use Spalding & Singapore Math and they have HIGH expectations and hmwrk levels. This WILL require more time/involvement as a parent - but our kids r worth it!

In terms of education the quality is high, but in terms of leadership and how children are treated I would only give this school a 1. Bullying is acceptable from the children to the adults, communication is horrible, and now they shame the elementary students by handing out detentions left and right. I would be awesome if this school could find a healthy balance between education and the children. New leadership is definitely needed, and if you don't like the way they do something, you will be shown the door and told that this school is not for everyone. I have never been more disappointed in our education system.

My child has been attending ATA since 3rd grade, which is also the 2nd year they had been open. ATA is not for every family. It does take a lot of parent involvement, particularly in the lower grades. I've read some of the reviews. Good and bad, as far as the teacher turnover, you'll have that in every school. Of course some teachers are better then others. They try to hold on to the "good ones". It is a very high demand job, that's not for every teacher. I believe the curriculum has helped push my child to be the best she could be. Looking forward to Jefferson Prep (ATA High School).

For the person who wrote this review: " My kid is in ATB preschool program, their preschool program is nothing but BABY SITTING. . ." I STRONGLY disagree! My child was there 2 years and came out knowing ALL her letters/sounds; she recited poetry; she was more than prepared for kinder. In fact, when I looked at the regular public school in our neighborhood, what they were doing in K was what she did in preschool at ATB. We opted to stay at ATA because of this. We didn't want a repeat of what she already knew. Just a few weeks into K, my child is ready to read. That would not be the case if she had just been "baby sat".

We love having our children attend Adams! At first, I was concerned by the heavy homework load and strictness. After a year, I found out that your child brings home tons of homework if they aren't finishing the work in class. Now my kids do the class work in class and bring home very little homework. Our children feel very safe and comfortable with strict guidelines for behavior and dress code. We are ecstatic with our choice! But it takes a huge amount of parental involvement and focus.

This school looks very good at first glance but there are problems below the surface. The turnover of teachers is truly alarming. Also the demands expected of children causes anxiety that is not worth the payoffs. Children are held behind in upper grades and will end up hating school. The resources department is very small and not equipped to handle the demands of the children who need the services. Parents read the reviews and think that this school will be a magic cure for children with demanding disabilities. If your child is ready to devote their life for the next year to schoolwork and nothing more than by all means send your child here.

Adams is very academically challenging, which for some Is a good thing! We switched to Adams due to some bullying issues at the local public school. We had a fantastic 2nd grade teacher who was very understanding to the "transition period" that new students go through to get used to the rigorous curriculum and homework demands. I have found, though, the turnover rate for teachers is VERY high bc of the demands of the job at this school. Third grade was an entirely DIFFERENT story. My son (who is a good student and very well behaved!) was regularly bringing home homework that took 60-90 mins to complete, he was constantly criticized, and ended up HATING school. Third grade is a tough year at Adams and they tell you that at orientation! We are switching to a school with similar philosophy, but with teachers that want to make learning fun and less homework demands so that my children can participate in afterschool activities and still be kids!

This school is wonderful academically, but the rigour, in my opinion is too much. The teachers are strict to the point of kids not wanting to try, because it is never good enough for the students. Teachers that can not adhere to this way of teaching quit mid-term due to the pressure. It is the teachers' job to motivate students for excellence. What I see us punishment, shame, and grading down work for minor infractions. Grades are not soley based on achievement. Students in 3rd grade lose 20% of a grade for forgetting to write their name. I'm sorry, I can not agree to that.

Wow, that last comment was harsh. When you are writing a comment llike this, please watch your punctuation, spelling and capital letters. People might take you more seriously. Please be more specific. As a former teacher and now parent of a kinder kid at Adams, I have had a wonderful experience. My son loves school and loves his teachers. They have high expectations of children here. I love this school!

My kid is in ATB preschool program, their preschool program is nothing but BABY SITTING. They do not teach anything and teachers do not communicate at all with parents. Principal is mostly interested in increasing pre school classes vs kindergarten classes. You can see that based on number of paid preschool classes they added vs KG classes.

This is our first year at this school. So far it's been great - they have great curriculum. My kids seem learning a lot academically. Breakfast/Lunch programs are also great as they build a state-of-art kitchen on site this year - so the kids can enjoy the fresh made food.

Adams Traditional Academy is a wonderful school and the pre-school is very special as well. We've been with the school for 2 years now and I can't say enough good thing about it. My daughter is in 1st grade and the education for fundamentals has been outstanding.

I love this school! I'superbly picky with schools, I'm very pleased so far. My child gets to learn with a great curriculum with art classes, and latin. The uniform code is strict (fine with me!), and the parking, pick up/drop off is kind of a challenge (they need to buy more land for parking spaces for sure!, or stagger the start times of the different grade levels?) I'm very excited about it. The attrition rate doesn't concern me at all. The school I went to growing up had a high attrition rate, because it was challenging - but it was an amazing school - so this doesn't matter to me about Adams. This is a school for kids who want to be challenged.

We moved our kids here from the public school and have been very pleased. Our daughter had all A's & B's before coming here and really struggled to get caught up to the speed of how things work at Adams. We as parents had a lot of learning to do as well, you know you are in trouble when they offer classes on how to teach the parents, to teach their kids! They offered free tutoring and our daughter ended the year on a great note, but it was A LOT of work for her. Our son had some behavior problems at his last school, he just was not being challenged, the structure of Adams and rigor was exactly what he needed. He is like night and day, just a new kid, more well mannered and so much happier. The teachers here work their butts off. We love this school, the high expectations they have for our kids, and love knowing that our kids are surrounded by "good kids".. Adams is not for everyone, we shall see if our daughter can handle it this year, she loves it, but we don't want her to loathe school. You really just have to know your kids and what is best for them when choosing a school. The principal reminds me of my Catholic school days.

If your child is academic oriented and not interested in sports or any literary activities, this school is for you. They do have good curriculum but lot depends on the teachers. Singapore math they teach book reports they make kids write are wonderful experience. However, both student and teacher attrition rate is too high. Though not against disciplining the children, I think the amount of detentions kids serve for some unbelievable silly reasons should reduce. On the other extreme, my son had to serve detention as the teacher assumed he had stolen a toy from another kid s bag. Luckily that small toy was from a set of 12 I had at home carried the remaining eleven to show that it belonged to him. Unfortunately my son already had served the detention by then. That left a very bad taste with us and will never forget that day. Teacher was not careful enough to enter correct marks obtained into their system. After 2 quarters, carried all corrected papers to show the inconsistency. Again, I stick to what I said earlier. No doubt It s a good school with good curriculum standards in case you get good teacher but with limited extra-curricular activities and adverse discipline policies.

The good news about this school is it's a school of choice! I choose to send my kids here. If teachers are not performing there is no district guideline that needs to be followed to terminate employment. I have found this school for my children to be both challenging and rewarding. I appreciate that I have to be involved in my child's education. If you don't believe in being involved and discipline this is not the place for you. I appreciate the curriculum and after school activities that are made available to my child. I look forward to learning Latin next year with my children as well. I am excited for the school and it's future. To have a school be be able to provide a preschool through 12th grade education is a great accomplishment. Keep it up ATA!! You are doing great things!! Remember, we are here because we choose to be here, not because it's the school down the street or within our district.

I have nothing but praise for ATA and would recommend the school for every parent. Comparisons to DVUSD, the home district my son would be attending, all favor Adams. 1. My DVUSD school has been experiencing a decline in student population. The struggling DVUSD schools need to be consolidated with other schools to save money and cut losses. ATA has a waitlist and is expanding. 2. ATA's curriculum is challenging and, I believe, rewarding long term. I'd be hesitant to recommend ATA to DVUSD students beyond 3rd grade as many will struggle adjusting to the curriculum (kids who have left ATA found district schools to have a much easier curriculum). Parental involvement will help with adjustment to ATA. 3. DVUSD continues to ask for money via override and hasn't made any needed cuts in places like school consolidation or reductions in Sr. Administration (if the district is shrinking, leadership is to blame, not the teachers). If ATA had the same money issues, the school would have to close. ATA has to execute well and has. Every school has its issues and every school is not for everyone. ATA is 4 years old so and is still evolving but I choose and recommend ATA over DVUSD.
