My girls really love going to school! My oldest daughter came to Kenilworth for 1st grade after spending lot of money and time at a private that couldn't meet her needs is the reason we came to Kenilworth. I am very pleased that my daughter has come so far with the help of Mrs. Bruce, Mrs. King (Benge), Ms. Pope she is now at grade level. She is getting the extra services and help from her teachers and her family. We have a new principal this year that is making an effort to meet and greet parents with coffee with the principal on Friday morning. I am really glad we have a principal this year that is asking for more parent involvement.
I believe that something is going on behind the scenes that is unpleasant, to say the least. What else to make of the massive amount of staff that has resigned? What else to make of the sad-faced children shuffling through the halls? The vice-principal with only ONE year of actual classroom experience? And oh my goodness, what has happened to the once-fabulous kindergarten and 2nd grade? Kenilworth USED to be a great school, but with all of the best teachers gone, class sizes topping out at 40+, an unresponsive principal whose only means of "discipline" is to stand over children and scream in their faces...My family and I are looking for a new school.
I have had my kids at this school for years. My daughter is about to graduate from 8th Grade. My kids absolutely love this school. The staff, faculty and most of the teachers I have come in contact with are great! Mr Flores is one of the best Principals I know! He truly cares about the students and does make it a welcoming evironment! Also Mr. K the VP is awesome!!!!!!!!!
went there from 1956 to 1964, had ups and down but great school, learn many thing not what kids learn today
My children are so happy at this school! I am concerned about what I see as an overemphasis on testing, but that's a U.S. problem, not a Kenilworth problem. Ms. Woodrum and Ms. Benge make an excellent kindergarten team and get the kids off to a strong start. It's a great place to learn.
Under our new leadership of Mr. Flores Kenilworth has become a more friendly and open environment for teachers and students. Teachers who have been at Kenilworth are great and the students love them. Mr. Flores has brought more emphasis for after school activities such as Traveling Senators (a club who takes out of country trips) and a flag football league for 4th-6th graders which the kids loved. Not to mention the girls basketball team which has been a big hit over the past 3 years. I recommend Kenilworth to any parent who wants a fun and traditional education experience for their children.
This WAS an excellent school for the first two years my daughter went here,, but after that it just completely went down hill. Disipline at this school is a big joke. They claim to have a policy on disipline until your child is the victim then that's when you see the true colors of the school. The principal was did not handle a situation properly when my daughter was being attacked by another child, that child continued to attack my child in the peer program and that child was still able to be in the program. All of the peer staff seemed to be kids and teens. This school has the best teachers.
I had my son attend this school last year and pulled him out after seeing other kids behaviors. 9 year olds using foul language with teachers on 'watch' and not addressing the problem. Their academic may be good, but my son's morals are way more important. I am now in a program called Connections Academy where I have him do school at home. I now am in control of what he learns, with communication from his teacher.
It is my daughters second year at Kenilworth and I am grateful to have her here. We've looked at 5 different schools in the district as she is pre-enrolled, and the office staff has been very helpful. When it comes to a kid going into Kinder, as a parent I had allot of questions that alway got answered with a smile, and that is why we ultimately chose Kenilworth. She is enrolled in PEER and they've been great. PEER which rolls over to summer (free of charge) has taken the kids on field trips twice a week for the entire summer. (IMAX, Movies, Ice Skating, Sunsplash, Amazing Jakes, Rollerskating, Bowling, WNBA game, Diamondback game.....) Mrs. Moncayo is amazing, always involved with great spirit. I don't know how she does it. Plus: No uniforms. Diversity. Minus: No sport teams. Overall excellent. - Darina
The expectation of excellent behavior/ethics is evident the second one walks into the building. My 1st grade daughter has blossomed in this school. Her teacher, Mrs. Morris, is well aware of the needs of her students, and the principal (Mrs. Moncayo)is thoroughly involved-I thought she must have cloned herself because I saw her no matter where I was on campus! I am thrilled to have my daughter in this school, and I had the choice to enroll her anywhere. We're a Kenilworth family now.
My daughter was enrolled at Kenilworth for half of this past school year. Her teacher, Mrs. Bruce was outstanding. The principal, Mrs. Moncayo is authoritative, yet friendly. All staff is accessible and the campus is terrific and commendable considering how old the school is. The experiences that happen at this school through their educational standards and the ethnic and financial makeup of the student body are fabulous. My daughter is an open enrollment student, which means I made the conscience decision to send her there. The only downfall would be that there weren't any openings in PEER, but what do you expect for a program that is free? Kenilworth is awesome, check out the museum. Everyone is a Senator and that is why I get into rush hour traffic heading into the city every school morning.
My son was enrolled in Kenilworth for one full year and part of another year. While Mr. Baca was principal, things were okay (not great). I had to remove him from the 6th grade because there were 30+ students in each of 2 teachers classrooms. Classroom control did not exist and learning was not occurring. The afterschool program (PEER) is horrible.
my daughter graduated from kenilworth in 2004 w/ 4 scholarships. she played basketball for the school for the 2 years she attended there. I'm very please w/ the school and the education my daughter received there. I recommend the school to other parents who want the best for their children.
Kenilworth has become a dangerous and terrible place for teachers and students.
When you walk through the school you feel at home. All the teachers and staff are very nice and helpful. My child is thriving in all subjects and I know it is because of the dedication of the teachers. My child loves going to music class, the computer lab and claims to have 'the best PE Coach ever!' Mr. Baca is a very good principal and makes all the children feel welcome. He knows all of them by name, and this is a k-8 shcool. He makes himself very accessible to the students and parents. Which is something that I appriciate. My child is doing great and loves going to school here. If you are considering bringing your child here I suggest you stop by the office and pick up a brochure, once you walk through the front door you will be sold.
Mr. Baca is a wonderful role model for the children. He is a great principal.
My child was not doing so well at his other school but is thriving and in advances classes here. It shows what a great teacher and school can do for a child. Cant say thank you enough.
This school is really nice. I think the best teacher is Mrs.Arnold , because she really pushes you too excel. If you have problems she helps.
