In the past 2 months at school, my 9 yr old daughter has done the following: Organized/raised money/planted a huge garden behind her classroom, Grocery shopped & Cooked a Thai meal for her class (and researched Thailand), volunteered at Feed My Starving Children (and now wants to have her birthday there helping feed the hungry), completed numerous research projects with enthusiasm and still manages to learn a ton of Math & Science. There was "girl drama" in class and the students involved were given gentle guidance and support from the teachers who are well aware when things like this happen (which WILL happen at this very social age). The drama was resolved with respect and understanding (valuable lessons learned in this situation that cannot be easily taught in books). There are more "life lessons" taught at this school than just learning STEM or other similar programs. There's heavy duty education but it's also teaching kindness, respect (for nature and each other), tolerance, communication, the list goes on. Best of all, it has nurtured a natural desire in my daughter to WANT to learn and she looks forward to school everyday. It's Amazing.
My family is going into its eighth year of having a child at Keystone. Over the years I could easily have seen why some might perceive that large benefactors' children receive preferential treatment. But that is a short sighted view of how the school operates. As you spend more time in the school you see that everyone takes their gifts and their lumps equally. The administration has gone out of their way in classroom placements to not give large contributors/volunteers the teachers that the parents requested. Any school is going to have its strong and weak teachers based on a parent's opinion. But in the end each of those teachers might be the best teacher your child has in school, or the worst teacher your friend's child had in school. Keystone does have an active and involved parent community. Contributing to the community is every family's personal decision. We appreciate the education that our children are receiving at Keystone and would recommend it to other families that are willing to make the commitment to the full (and lengthy) experience of a Montessori education.
They give obvious preference to families with money, and conveniently 'lose' the wait list paperwork of people without money. In general, the only way to assure you get in is to start in preschool. After that, the chances are slim, and are zero if you ask about the annual contribution or the possibility of a scholarship.
I am a former student and personally I have to say that Keystone was a great during my elementary years. However when it comes to the adolescents Keystone doesn't have a clue what they're doing. I can say from personal experience that I was unprepared for the work load in high school. I can also say that Keystone did not give me the social skills I needed for high school. I was also the victim of bullying during my later years at Keystone. When I approached teachers and staff about the bullying I was not helped. Some of the teachers also developed personal hatred for me. Do yourselves a favor and either don't send your children to Keystone or move them before they get to 6th or 7th grade.
I am a current student of Keystone Montessori and personally, I couldn't be happier. The teachers are kind and understanding, but, of course, push you, and Keystone definitely is not the type of school where you have to worry about bullying and discrimination. I'm currently in seventh grade, almost eighth grade, and in throughout all seven of the years I've gone to Keystone I haven't encountered one bully or unfair teacher. (Strict teachers, yes, but that, to a reasonable extent, is necessary.) And the education is great, too! If you are looking for a school that will help your child aspire in all academical fields, Keystone Montessori is definitely the best choices out there.
I am a current student and I believe Keystone Montessori is a very productive school that's fun at the same time. It has to be one of my most favorite schools that I've been to yet! I have learned many new and interesting things. I've also improved in many subjects and have met many nice and respectful people.
Keystone Montessori follows the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori enabling the children to learn based on their interests and mastery of skills. This is my granddaughter's first year at school beginning as a 4-year old, and already, she is learning to read, learning to write in cursive, and learning and understanding place value. These academic skills are coupled with lessons in "grace and courtesy" in which the children practice good moral values and proper etiquette. Life skills are an integral part of the curriculum as well. The staff are caring and compassionate and look at each child as an individual. We have been extremely happy with Keystone Montessori!
True Montessori education. Love the way my kids get to learn. Keystone is not just a great school it is a great community!
I have peace in my heart each day when I drop off my daughter at school because I know when I return at the end of the day she will have had a day filled with wonderful learning experiences. The Keystone community (parents/staff) are made up of such lovely people. I feel blessed to have found such an amazing school!
This is a real Montessori school where the children are always encouraged to follow their own interests and explore the world. They learn the 'basics' along the way without it ever becoming a chore or stressful. The facility and materials are all designed to encourage this exploration and discovery and the teachers and staff are all so respectful of each child's strengths. From pre-school to elementary school, we have never heard "I don't want to go to school" from our child!
Keystroke Montessori is by far the most child-focused, wonderful school. The campus is inviting, warm and beautiful, nestled in the Phoenix mountains, with spectacular views. The rooms each have a floor to ceiling glass garage-style door that can completely open on beautiful Arizona days, allowing the outside in while the children learn, engage, move about freely and naturally. Instruction is done with children, not at them and each child is free to focus and learn independently as well as with the guidance of the instructor. My child is happy at Keystone and he is exposed to learning and traveling opportunities that were never available through any public school. Keystone focuses on each child and family and parental involvement is part of the culture. Thank you KMCS for providing an exemplary education in a format children naturally learn best.
Our kids have been at Keystone for over 4 years now. We love the school and how the Montessori method is implemented. My husband and I are happy to have found a school in which all parents are as committed as we are to their children and to their school. You can observe the class of your child as many times as you want and the teachers are always one email away. The school offers many activities that allow our kids to positively develop into their following years. None school is perfect, but this is the closest I know to perfection!
A true "Montessori" environment that allows our children to succeed in academics, as well as becoming well rounded members of our society. Why in the world would you want to subject your children to hours of homework every night when you get even better end results with the montessori way. Beats me and Keystone has the reputation and test scores (if that is what you are in to) to prove it.
I can not possibly say enough good things about Keystone and how it has influenced my children to be the beautiful little souls that they are. They both started around 3 years old and were taught grace and courtesy lessons that have shaped them into children that I get complimented on all of the time. They are peaceful, kind, empathetic, self-driven children at the ages of six and eight and I owe that to these teachers that give them the perfect amount of responsibility and guidance. My children love going to school, and a positive foundation for their learning and education is all I ever hoped for. They take such pride in what they contribute to their class. I, personally, love most that it is a small, closed campus area that feels very safe. The front desk personnel know each child's name and know where they should be and when. The other parents are great which makes the school functions so much fun. It is a loving community of people who will help out with other's children, no questions asked. I can't imagine having my children anywhere else.
Hands on learning is how children's brains are biologically wired to learn. Sitting and listening to teachers talk all day is not. The Montessori method was scientifically based - created by researching what worked best for each age of development. My son is finally excited to go to school, is able to move around, talk with others about his learning, and doesn't just memorize what he is told to learn. He truly understands the concepts, because he is responsible for his own learning - at 7 years old and beyond. We are very happy here!!
Our daughter just recently started attending Keystone Montessori and we have been please with the school so far. I like the Montessori method of educating children and it fits in well with my child's needs. If there is one negative that I would have to say then it is the hours for extended care. The school does not open till 7:30 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m. cutting it close for working parents. I think a 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. time frame would work better for our family.
We transferred our kids to Keystone after a difficult experience at our local public kindergarten. I was familiar with Montessori, but had never seen it implemented so beautifully as I did that first day walking into Keystone. Instead of being motivated externally (by constant drilling and testing and behavior charts), students here are motivated by their intrinsic curiosity and their own desire to learn about the world. Whereas before my daughter was afraid to take risks because of fear of failing a test, she is now making huge strides in her reading and writing. She's falling in love with learning, finding confidence, and gaining essential interpersonal and life skills. The teachers and administrators work hard to build a sense of community among students and parents. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience so far.
This is a great montessori school. Safe and neat enviornment. Well trained teachers. Friendly staffs.
As a parent, I wanted a place that would foster joy in learning, respect; an environment where my child could grow not only academically, but as a whole person, preparing him with life skills, not just test taking skills as most traditional schools do. This I have found at Keystone. You'll also find the school community to be very welcoming and supportive.
We have 2 kids at Keystone Montessori; one in Toddler classroom and one in Primary (moving up to lower elementary this year). We moved them from another Montessori school and could see a big improvement in them. Both classrooms provide excellent care, education and practical life experience. We grew up in a traditional school setting and at first we were concerned about their academic abilities. To our surprise, our older son shows great math and ready skills. With authentic Montessori experience the school provides, I feel my son does the math with thorough thought process and deep understanding, rather than memorizing. He also started to read a chapter book himself when he was about 5 years old. The toddler classroom is also excellent. We are pleasantly surprised to see how much my little one can be so independent at such a young age (feeding, dressing up, cleaning up himself). His communication and concentration are also excellent. I give all the credits to the school for such a great job they have done to my kids!
