We have two children at Colina and are very happy with this school. Our son has special needs and is mainstreamed. His teacher has been very loving and supportive, but also challenges him academically. The resource teacher, therapists and his classroom teacher have all been great about communicating with me and answering all of my questions and worries. The students have really made the experience great for him and reassured us as parents that he is in a safe and supportive environment. Our daughter started kindergarten last year and came home everyday wanting to play school and says that when she grows up she wants to be a kindergarten teacher. There are many great families at Colina who really are involved in the school. The PTO holds events monthly and the Principal, Mrs. Brunner, is very involved and available to parents. We moved to this area wanting to attend a Kyrene school and really are happy to be at Colina.

I am rating this school average, because that's exactly what it is and what should be expected if you enroll your children here. The teachers are all very nice and great with the kids, however their ability to work one on one with children is limited by the number of student's in each class. If your child is an eager and above average learner, be prepared for the schooling to be quite boring for them. The curriculum is tailored to fit the needs of the average student's which is in the middle, so those who need to be challenged suffer as a result. The principal at this school is great! She is exceptional with the kids and very accomodating within her means. I think the intentions of everyone here are good but the sheer number of children impacts the ability to effectively work one on one like children of this age need.

My daughter has been attending Colina since kindergarten. She loved the teachers, programs and children. She especially loves Kids Club that through the guidance of Ms. Mona is excellent. Ahwatukee has wonderful schools and excellent parent volunteer ratios! Let s face it, parents that choose to volunteer for schools are interested in their child excelling.

This school overall is a great school. There are certain teachers who are better than others. Ms. Brunner, the school's principal is extremely accessible and very child oriented. The PTO has a lot of great events and fundraising is very easy. They don't put pressure on parents. Communication from the school is excellent, including a district wide alert system if there is an emergency. Class communications depends on the quality of teacher you get.

I am very pleased with Colina Elementary. I feel the teachers are motivated and caring and strive to provide a quality education for our children. Parent involvement is excellent. PTO is great. Many, many extra activities are provided to the children by the excellent PTO. It is a welcoming school with a diverse student population.

This is my daughters second year at Colina and I'm once again disappointed. The teacher gives up on her class frequently; while all the other classes get to enjoy activities, the teacher can't handle her class and makes them sit off to the side. This teacher, and last years teacher, lack organization and consistent discipline for their students. Colina has some great teachers and I hope my daughter gets one of them next year.

My children love Colina, and I love it too. The staff is awesome and the teachers are tops in their field. I believe Colina is the best elementary school in the district. (My children are in 3rd and 4th grade and have been at Colina since kindergarten.)

My son is in 1st grade and he's progressing very well. He feels challenged for many tasks and he loves it. My son is very happy being there.

This has been a great school for my daughter. She has excelled in almost every subject and made quite a few friends. Teacher/Parent communication was excellent.

My children absolutely love this school. The students absolutely come first! The parent involvement is absolutely great. I have never seen so many parents involved in a school. The teachers are wonderful. In this day and age this school also still has art and music which is not found too often. Unfortunatly we moved and my children do not go there any longer. Since we have moved I can see the difference in the quality of education that my children are getting. Colina's curriculum was challenging for my 1st grader and at his new school he is at the top of his class due to Colina's strong curriculum.

Colina has been a great school for my daughter and a wonderful place for her to attend Kindergarden. Her teacher Mrs. Bibbey is absolutely a great teacher.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
