Handles bullying effectively: Neutral

There's bullying at all schools and they work hard here to address it- school wide education and positive modeling- but it is still a problem for my child, but my kid feels that there are people to turn to and it is still his school of choice.

Supports LD students: Agree

They make great effort in classes to find strengths and address weaknesses. The only concern is gifted programs being limited due to district wide pooling of much of resources out of most schools and into just two elementary schools.

Effective school leaders: Strongly agree

There is a positive feel to leadership, and the principal is wonderful.

Develops character: Strongly agree

Every aspect of the school encourages kids to grow, be responsible, contribute to the community.

Amount of homework: Strongly agree

Homework is limited- this is great- as it allows reinforcement of topics but allows kids to participate in sports and pleasure reading. Let them be kids!

This is a community- not just a school. The scores dropped due to some gifted programs being pulled into a single Ahwatukee school- this takes high scoring kids and families away. However, the school has wonderful and talented teachers, one of the most amazing principals you could ever wish for, and dedicated families that provide an environment to grow whole, happy, and balances kids. This school is smaller than some others- which allows for a family feel. There is too much transition with people bouncing from school to school in this day and age- this neighborhood welcomes everyone and they want you to stay and be engaged. Visit and you will love it!

Wonderful staff ! Totally feel safe in this school. Principal Brunner is AMAZING! Teachers are super - we couldn't be happier with Colina.

The school has an amazing principal that truly cares about the students and interacting with the community. I am also impressed when I walk the halls with my children and all the teachers know my children even when they have never been in their classroom. That was impressive and showed how dedicated the teachers are in and outside their classroom. I also like the positive learning environment where teachers and administration have positive upbeat attitudes. Many parents are also involved with their children and participate in school activities and events. We have built many friends from the school and feel very comfortable contacting other parents about issues relating to the school or classroom. I would have no problem recommending Colina!

My 4 kids went through this school....for 18 years, 4 Principals and a multitude of teachers and in the end, I was still telling people to go to Colina! We had nothing but great experiences there. The Principals all were caring, interested and involved in each students' academic lives. They got to know each kid and their parents. The PTO is one of the strongest ptos in the district with pklenty of parental and community involvement. The activities, whether they were for fun or fundraising brought the Colina community out in droves. They raised enough money each year to fund the library, buy books for grade level reading instruction, buy tshirts for EACH student and so much more. This is a school that is truly a community gem!

We have a hard working staff who cares about our children. We have high expectations for our students in all content areas. We work with parents to help our children have success in and out of the classroom.
