I have two grand children that go to this school. My grand son is on the honor roll. I am pleased with the staff, education they are getting and how friendly they are. Also I feel safe sending them there.
There seems to be some manipulation here. Several posts have been removed. Two posts stated how suspect it was that the school was posting good ratings. One post confirming the school staff does post by a former employee. The fact is that the state did not release the ratings so how could someone possibly know that San Tan Heights was a B school on July 18 unless it was someone from the school. Honestly, the school was not open and that information was not available. So, this is where the suspected manipulation of this rating site was posted. Why the censorship? Why hide the fact that someone from the school confirmed there was manipulation in posting? Despite policies etc, censoring to protect the school or this enterprise is a serious violation of free speech.
My daughter was enrolled in Kinder with Mrs. Hegg and to the parent that recently posted, I'm not sure why your child had such a bad experience. I have witnessed first hand how she treats her kids. She does not allow them to act out and cause disruption in her classroom. I can't help but wonder if your child had any kind of behavioral issues that would make you think they were treated as a special ed child. Because of Mrs. Hegg, my daughter has far exceeded the school district requirements and I know it's because of the education she got in Mrs. Hegg's class along with the extra help she got at home. To those that have commented that the school has a D rating, you are behind on your education. This school has been upgraded to a B rating by the Dept of Education (their website just hasn't been updated yet) The office staff is great, I have had no issues at all with any staff within that school. I would recommend it to anyone. People need to remember, your child's education does not stop when they leave school. If you do not work with them at home they will struggle! Stop placing blame solely on teachers. They can only do so much! I recommend this school and especially Mrs. Hegg!
This school has been a breath of fresh air!! We had a few hic-ups in the beginning but with parent involvement and being present in my child's schooling it has turned around with the help and guidance of staff and teachers. I have two kids here and when I walk through the doors everyone knows who my kids are by first name. One child has medical issues that they have gone above and beyond to ensure she is kept safe. Teachers are willing to go the extra mile with every child here! Love the staff and teachers at this school.
II love this school especially my granddaughters teacher Mrs Hegg she is an excellant kindergarten teacher. She puts the extra effort to make sure all her students feel comfortable enough to put their best foot forward. Mrs. Hegg loves doing what she choose as her job but I firmly believe she doesn't feel its a job to her. She encourages her students to do their best and always makes them feel special. I would recommend this school to anyone.
My family and I are moving to the area soon and we are concerned about the low ratings for San Tan Heights Elementary School. The test scores seem to have been high for a couple of years and have dropped off drastically (according to this site's info). Does anyone know the reason for this? My initial reaction is to ask, "What in the world's going on over there?" I know tree can be circumstances that are hard to see from the outside but I hate to take the chance with my daughter's education. It appears that this school is below the state average on most of the state tests and I am wondering what's being done to remedy the trend. Any thoughts from parents or teachers in the area? Thanks, Concerned Parent
This is in response to the post below regarding parent volunteers. I told my child's teacher back in August at Meet the Teacher that my schedule allows me to volunteer any day of the week at any time needed. I also inquired again many times throughout the school year but was told every time I asked that she didn't need any help and there was nothing for me to do. Unfortunately, I was not able to get involved as I had hoped. Speaking from the other side of the spectrum, I think if more teachers were parent volunteer friendly, than more parents might get involved. With that being said, I have seen a lot of improvements for the better at STH this school year! My child does extremely well and by the end of each school year is always ahead academically. We are looking forward to next school year!
San Tan Heights Elementary needs the community's help to bring this school around and make it a great place to get an education. The parents need to help our staff make learning fun for our students. We need better turn out when we have events that celebrate our students. We need parents that might be able to volunteer their time, or buy supplies when they can for their child's teacher. Volunteering need only be for one to two hours a week. You can help a teacher with copying, help the PTO with their activities, there are a number of things that a parent volunteer can do to make this school a GREAT SCHOOL. We already have the dedicated teachers and staff - all it takes is our parents to join us and we can have one great school. Please help out when you can and if you can't be here in person ask your child's teacher how you might help them from your home. Show an interest in your child's work and school - you will see how much of a difference this can make between having a school that teaches children and a SCHOOL THAT CELEBRATES OUR CHILDREN!!!!
I think that it is sad that this forum is used in such a negative way. When disgruntled employees are able to make allegations and name names creating a negative image of teachers and administration something must be done. The disclaimer on this review says that GreatSchools.org will not post reviews that contain allegations, names of students, teachers or staff and then they post the reviews anyway. The administration, teachers and staff all are working very hard to recreate the schools image, students success and overall effectiveness of our school. When an organization such as this allows such posts without honoring their own guidelines it creates a website of hostility. I think that our consumers are very intelligent and can make their own decisions about our school without the hateful comments that have been allowed to be posted here.
My childs biggest complant was that the class was loud a lot. I then spent some time in my childs class last school year I found that students were disruptive and loud and the teacher didn't seem to care. This wasn't a good learning enviroment. There was one child that romed the halls most of the day with his own hall pass. I didn't think the office staff was very friendly. And what does the principal do there anyway. I think most of the Honor Roll Awards were given out just to make the school look good. The students may have made the grade but may not have earned it. I'm sorry but I gave the school many chances over the years. It was time to move on.
As a parent with children who have attended this school for several years I have to say I am more than pleased with it's progress. They are up and coming and doing a great job at improving the learning environment for the students. Mrs. Hegg in the kindergarten was fantastic. My son has had his share of struggles when it comes to learning and she was patient and caring with him the entire time. She was always willing to listen to any ideas or concerns that I had as his parent and then implemented them in her classroom. So many times we have teachers that say they are listening and then don't make any changes. He is my 4th child to send to kinder and I actually cried at the end of the year when he left her class. We couldn't have picked a better teacher. Big thank you's to the Principal and all the staff too! Keep up the great job!
My daughter went to this school for 1.5 school year. In grade k they were not even reading, school functions were poorly planned out and communication was very poor. Luckily grade 1 she had a great teacher and was able to work back up to grade level. Thank you miss malpass! But i would never recommend this school!
To the person who wrote that Mrs. Romm is the worst teacher ever, I feel sad that you have to post something like that on here when you have no experience with her. You have no idea what goes on in her classroom, how well her students love her, how well behaved her class is and well managed. By far Mrs. Romm is an excellent teacher and was recently recognized as an excelling teacher by the San Tan Regional Council. To anyone who has a question about Mrs. Romm's character, professionalism and academics, I would encourage you to meet her, see her students, talk to the administration. Mrs. Romm is a blessing to San Tan Heights and all her children.
After reading these reviews there are a few things that as a teacher I would like to express. First is that if you have something negative to say then please take it to the building administration. It is more productive than bashing a teacher on a website. Second we work extremely hard for the best interest of all of the students, if you don't agree then please come into our school and volunteer your time. That's the way you make a change or to let your voice be heard. As for the comments about Mrs. Romm, I am very sorry you feel that way. You would be grateful to have a teacher like her for your child. It will be your loss not to have her as your child's teacher. She is an amazing teacher and has done GREAT things with all of her students. The proof is in her test scores. Don't believe me go to the school and check it out for yourself. For anyone else that is going to do any teacher bashing, please take into consideration how you would feel if someone posted something negative about you or a family member.
My daughter entered Kindergarten right after we moved to Arizona. I was so nervous having to put her into a school that I didn't know anything about or know anybody, but our family was totally blessed when she ended up with Mrs. Romm as her teacher. I had the privilege of being in the classroom alot and seeing what went on and how it went on. Mrs. Romm has a passion to teach, she takes time with each child encouraging them, helping them to learn in their own way, being interested in them. I have seen her go above and beyond many times to make Kindergarten the best it can be. I would not have let my daughter stay at the school if she was in another class room. Now the school as a whole...oh boy... but I would never have second thoughts about having Mrs. Romm as a teacher again. I am rating the school low but I have seen a few wonderful teachers. The school is dirty, children wander the halls, the front desk staff- haha, and there are big issues with the specials teachers. But seriously- Mrs Romm is a great teacher- it was like being in a different school till you had to step outside the classroom.
I was unable to complete a teaching contract at San Tan due to an injury. I repeatedly requested help to be able to stay off my feet and remain at San Tan. My requests went unanswered. Sometimes teachers need help to ensure that children come first.
My son has absolutely the best kindergarten teacher this year. From the moment we met her at meet the teacher night we knew that our son would be well taken care of and learn all that he should and then some. Next year, we definately want Mrs. Romm for our daughter. Patient and kind, loving and stern, Mrs. Romm provides a classroom community that is tops! Thank you Mrs. Romm and thank you San Tan Heights for having such a great teacher.
We have been at San Tan Heights for three years now. It has evolved and changed for the better. Tests scores have gone up, giving San Tan Heights a performing plus label for the first time. Plus it made the federal label of AYP. Communication is better, great family activities such as fall festival, spring fling, and multicultural night. The PTO is working hard to involve parents, which is greatly needed. Overall, my kids love school, and that is so nice.
This is the first year my children have attended the school. They absolutely love it. The administration is great and very responsive to any concerns. They are also accessible which was not the case at their precious school. They enjoy specials especially art where they are given the freedom to be creative. It is a neighborhood school that does create community involvement. I am very happy that my children attend school here.
To respond to the review posted November 3rd, we have since met as parent, teacher, and principal. We found out the kindergartener had not heard those types of songs from the art teacher, had not asked to not listen to music and was not punished for anything related to what he told his mom. Mom had him apologize to the teacher and the principal and since then has returned him to San Tan Heights Elementary.
