This school has a high rate of bulling. The administration really does nothing about it. They say oh we have not seen this or its the first I have heard but its not. The special ed teachers are good but the programs suck. They give you alot of promises but only follow through when you stay on them.
Someone needs to look into the staff turnover. Are they not hiring the right people? Are they not mentoring their new teachers enough? Are they making unreasonable demands on teachers and students? I think so.
This school is horrible the staff dont care about the student!!!!! and they dont teach well i recemend you not to put your students here
My kids have gone to Copper Basin since it opened. The school as well as the district have done a fantastic job adjusting to the challenges placed on them by budget cuts, low parent participation, and a lack of education support from the state. I have seen my children enjoy learning and love their teachers. The staff does a wonderful job of supporting kids that need help and challenging kids that are gifted learners.FUSD Superintendent , Dr. Nine, really cares about ALL the kids in his district. He can be seen at any number of academic and sporting events throughout the community. The teachers have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Nine. Great school! Great district!
Where to start? I have worked as faculty at a H.S. and several colleges. It is typical to place the blame on parents and students. Then, the school does not need to take responsibility for their downfalls. I withdrew my son from Copper Basin today. He has attended since kindergarten. He is in 3rd grade. We really did try to make it work, even with lack of transportation, the printed internet pages for homework, and the rude behavior of staff. I am appalled by Florence refusing to let us incorporate. They stood to lose 1 million but actually stood to lose over 10 million for the schools. There was embezzlement 2 years at Walker Butte. We can wait around for the district lines to change or we can jump on our legislators to help redraw those lines even though we are not incorporated. I chose AZVA (online school) because I work from home as a professor online and can do this. Copper Basin YMCA offers a program in connection with AZVA for 4th grade and higher. The fact is that my son was not learning and he was bullied over the years. I've seen other children pushed and punched on the playground. AZVA is a great program and I know my son will learn in a good environment.
I think this school needs the state to come in and really look at what is happening. They are not promoting life long learners, they are teaching to the tests. Shame on you Copper Basin.
In the 3 years that my children have been going to this school I have watched the decline in staff. Every year my son had stared with a teacher and inevitability his teacher leaves and another in brought in mid year. I completely disagree with having 2nd graders changing classes like high school kids. My kids get so confused and I often get notes that they went to the wrong class at the wrong time. The vice-principal is a master manipulator of words and always tries to twist your words and put all the blame on the parents. Even when a teacher admits to being the one who was doing the name calling to a 9 year old boy in a room full of people contributing to group bulling with other students of that boy. BAD administration BAD teachers!
We transferred from a Charter school and this school is amazing. You are able to track progress online and they do a lot of testing which is great because you know exactly where your child is academically. They also do tutoring and learning labs and they separate the kids into levels so they can learn with other kids in their level. Great job preparing them for the future! They change classes to accommodate the changing levels and that prepares them for the older grades. I love that they support music and have sports, bookstore, nurse, and a cafeteria. The teachers have to know every child in their grade because they probably have them in one class or another and they are still able to tell you exactly what is going on with each child. After our transfer, my daughter was far behind on her reading and within 3 months they gave her so much practice she was up to the right level. I appreciate everything that this school does! They are so organized it puts smaller, unorganized schools to shame! Well done!
"Kids First" I don't think so," test scores first" should be their motto! When primary children are tested to death, and don't have time to explore, learn and be children, then it is time to rethink what is being done throughout this school district.
This school is no good they do not care about the students at all the would rather fail a kid then try to help them or even give them extra work to make up a bad grade. Even after trying to talk to the princaple about what was going on did no good until I told them I was going to take it up with the school board we are moving out of this nabor hood just to get my kids away from this school!!!! I would never recommend this school to anyone EVER!
Teachers have really turned this school around. With a great adminstrator team and support from the district in all programs you will see great things happen with your child here. One thing that needs to be improved upon is PARENT support and students not accepting responsibility for their own choices. A school needs parent support and students need good examples from their parents. For those negative nellies, maybe you should get off the computer and go see the classrooms for yourself. I love helping in my child's class and the differentiated instruction is seen at all grade levels.
I love the school and the teachers, It's no perfect, but... wake UP!!! The teachers need support for the parents they can't do everything. Help your childrens to read and do homework, that's what I do. Call your teacher and ask her what she needs.. School like Eduprize have a high parent support.
I used to be an employee of FUSD, I have move to another state now, but if Florence had not built so many homes before they had schools to support these children , maybe classrooms would not be so over filled. The poor teachers can only do so much with what they are given. No wonder so many of them leave. They can't give them the education they need when it's 40 to 1. Hopefully these children find someone who cares.
Im very upset this school has just did a big u-turn in 2 years and now we have problems with funding who know what will happen know there is so many great teachers and the Principals that we haved in the past 2 years. Everyone working like a team and this is what we need now . Very sad not knowing what will happen 30-40 kids in a class is crazy the teachers already have it hard enough and if this happens forget it. If more parents got involved it would make it even better.
Well, reading through some of these reviews, I am a bit shocked. I have attended this school ever since it opened when I was in fourth grade. I am currently an 8th grader at CB, and I just have to say that I would be nowhere without this school. At first, it was horrible. Vandalism was done often on the walls. However, since having this new principal of two years, I believe that this school has changed for the better. Teachers work hard to make school fun for us while pushing us to get a great education. Especially my current writing teacher. I plan to have a book published one day, and she has increased my writing ability by ten fold. I absolutely adore this school, and would suggest any parent to send their kid, here. :)
We moved here in July 07, at first I did not think I would like the school, just seemed like no one had it together there in the office, but, I'll tell ya my son had a Great teacher last year and so far this year He has another Great teacher she keeps me up to date on everything! I have no complaints!!It takes awhile to get things together and become better they seem to be REALLY working hard to make this school a much better one.. and I see a lot of Positives! I am Proud my son goes this school. This is just my opinion!
Your kidding right? If you could only be a fly on the wall. 5th graders who do not know their times tables. 8th graders who pass but can not read. The rudeness of these children are the worse that I have ever seen. FUSD is a JOKE. Anyone of the schools you will find the same thing. Parents not caring about their children's education. I can tell you this, I would not want my children attending this or any of the FUSD schools. Don't believe me, then become a sub and you will see.
My daughter goes to this school she love it there and has lots of friends. I think the teachers are great and helpful.
I am so happy with the changes regarding teacher/parent communication this year. I love that grades are coming home each week so we as parents know exactly what's going on before we find out from the report cards! I know things can only continue to improve at CB. Great job everyone!
