The kindergarten class always has a stressful rushed feeling. I believe this is because it only last two hours. The teacher is always rushing to finish and the children seem frustrated. The development of social skills is important at this age and I think the two hour class gives them little time to socialize with each other. This school would do better if they at least increased the kindergarten class by another hour.

Navajo is a close knit community and offers a sound education. The Majority of teachers are outstanding. It is a great community school and truly celebrates diversity.

If I would have been filling this out four or five years ago, I would have given the school all fives. As all SUSD schools, Navajo is becoming more concerned with test scores and less concerned with the overall learning experience. The creativity is less and the learning 'activities' are fewer as they prepare for those test scores. The staff is wonderful and the diversity was a big plus for us!

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
