Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

We recently moved out of the state, and we had attended Freedom Academy for two years. I will say that not a school day goes by where I don't think about Freedom Academy, and how amazing of a school it truly is. Being part of a big public school now, makes me realize how special being part of a smaller school is. Freedom creates a safe, warm, welcoming, inclusive atmoshpere for any child and parent, and really values family time. The way they have their teachers organize homework and academics is outstanding. The PE coaches are enthusiastic and encouraging to the kids. The uniforms are affordable and I loved not having to hassle with outfits everyday, or compete with other kids. Also, the fundraising at this school is minimal!! Believe me, being part of a big public school now makes me realize how gentle Freedom was about fundraising, and made it fun for the kids and parents. A big public school has a PTA that might as well be a corporation. Pushing fundraising constantly. Freedom did not have that, and the PTA was a fun way for parents to be involved and contribute to the school. I will always be grateful for the wonderful experience we had at Freedom Academy.

This is my child's third year at Freedom Academy South. She has always had a voice in where she goes without me. I never make her stay somewhere she doesn't feel welcome and cared about. For this to be her third year at her school speaks volumes because she's particular. She has had her share of problems but the same as with any school and they were always worked out without a crisis. I like the less overwhelming, smaller campus and she is excelling in her studies. The principal/superintendent truly cares about the families. The teachers and staff are warm, friendly and upbeat. We do need fundraisers because of less funding from the state, but if everyone pitches in what they can we succeed and I have never felt pressured. As far as Spanish, Computer and extras there may not be funds for, I consider those things we can delve into at home and it's still worth it. The school is so much more personable than my own grade school was. I like the firm but creative learning atmosphere and I feel a lot of staff members and parents are willing to 'think outside the box' here.

What a wonderful place to send your child! My son started FreedomSouth in the first grade and is a few weeks away from finishing fourth grade. He has grown and flourished here so much. The only downfall is the lack of language, computers and art which all cost money. Thank you Freedom for showing my son "integrity, honor and leadership ".

The principal, staff and pupils made our children feel welcome on their first day. They received welcome cards and made many new friends. The principal seems to go out of her way for her students and parents and the school morals are of high standards. This is most definitely the school for our family!

Freedom Academy is a parent's dream for their children! This school is beyond incredible in it's depth of care and responsibility taken for each and every student. I have seen first hand in the caring approach taken by staff to correct behavior issues, as well as, their dedication in meeting each student's academic goals. The leadership is outstanding....and the teachers are so creative and dedicated. I am not naive to think that there aren't any problems...however, if you focus on what is most important, then you will be one of the many parents that are thrilled with this school. I am so saddened to hear of some of the negative reviews, as I cannot relate to their perspective. Perhaps one of the best things about this school is that the administrators' doors are always open. If you have a concern or issue...they truly would want to know about it and help. My daughters have been at Freedom Academy for almost 3 years, and I could not be happier with this school!

As the Charter Director of both sites of Freedom Academy, I am saddened to think anyone would feel they are judged poorly if they do not donate funds to our schools. We do many fund raising events, but stress that participation is always optional. If someone has been hurts by words spoken regarding funds, I would love to have the opportunity to speak with that person. In no way does the administration of these schools think less of someone who chooses not to; or cannot afford to donate. For events where there is a "fee", many scholarships are offered for those who cannot afford an event. I would hope that a person with these feelings would come and explain any situation where they have been made to feel "less than." Our philosophy is caring; not judgment. If we have erred, please come and let me make it right. Linda Hoffman

I think this school has taken new turns that are beyond appalling. If you send your child here, keep thick skin because the judgement will go beyond the money in your pocket. If you don't contribute money to this school, you are on their bad list.

Freedom Academy is a wonderful school with amazing families!!! The teachers and Principal are exceptional.... I feel grateful because I know my children are getting a great education and are 110% loved, nurtured and encouraged! Thanks Freedom. you set the example for other schools and teach our kids to love and care about their education and each other! This is a school were EVERY child counts and does not get lost in the system or politics! We have been at Freedom for 7 years....

This is our second year at FAS, and we are very happy with the school, teachers and administration. The attention to our child has been good and appropriate for a charter school. No complaints! All I ask as you read these reviews is that you do what is common practice in these forums, and disregard the very best, and very worst comments and that will give you a good true sense of what it is really like and what is really going on. Thank you!

This school is absolutely terrible , they had over 20 kids in grade seven last year and most of them left , to a point that only 4 in grade eight this year , we took our kids out without finishing the year , the grade seven teacher that was out to lunch everyday is now teaching grade 1 or 2 , we had meetings with administration to bring various issues up and these people new it all , did not want to listen to anything we had to say . they are full of themselves , trust me children at this school do not learn anything , we had to send our kids to private school and before they moved there we had to have them at tutoring all summer . what a disaster of a school .

I am so crazy about this school, I don't know where to begin. We attended Freedom Academy for 8 wonderful years. Our family them had to move for my husbands job and it was rough on our kids, to say the least. One of things that helped them get through this tough time was that the school stayed in contact with us. They took time and had the kids write letters to our children. The principal, Linda, took time to message us checking on all of us regularly. I knew the school was amazing while we were there, after leaving though I needed to come up with a new word to describe them, because amazing just doesn't seem to be enough... they are fantabulous! If you and your children are lucky enough to live in the area, I wouldn't even think of attending any school, other than Freedom Academy!

My children have attended Freedom Academy for 5 years and we couldn't be more impressed. My son and daughter are challenged by high academic expectations in combination with caring teachers and great student connections. The small school setting enables the teachers to know all of the students on a personal basis. You will not find a better combination for your elementary and middle school children. The best around by far. Once your children experience Freedom Academy, you will be sad it only goes through 8th grade.

There are no words to express what a special place Freedom Academy is. I credit Linda Hoffman for making our son s 8th grade a success. Also, the coach who not only teaches the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition, but who also takes on a mentoring role with the kids. I wish we had found Freedom Academy before that. Our son is now 19 years old and in the military. He still keeps in touch with Linda. When he came home on leave she made sure she spent time with him. She sowed into his life then and she continues to do it today. When students graduate from Freedom they remain part of the family. My daughter attended Freedom Academy for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. She also stays in touch with Linda. Our children had attended a very reputable private school for the years prior to attending freedom Academy. When our oldest graduated from that school we switched the younger two over to freedom. I was in shock that It was free. Such a great school! The environment was much more loving and caring than the private school and the academics are very good. How I wish we had found it earlier!!

I really enjoy this school because it is a safe and caring place. The Staff is well trained in protecting my children, and they are also very organized and on top of standards and expectations for the state and national scores. I have been there for 5 years and feel like it's the best school around!

As a grandparent, I am extremely happy to know my kids are at such a wonderful, fun and disciplined school! Linda Hoffman (the principal) keeps the kids on task with great leadership and whenever we attend one of the many fun performances, you can see the respect those kids have for her. That is an A+ in my book! GREAT school and happy to know my wonderful grandkids are there!

I absolutely love sending my son to Freedom Academy! He is learning so much and enjoys going to school everyday. I know that he is loved there by all of the staff and they take the time to know every child at the school on a personal level. I always recommend the school to anyone who is looking. This is truly a GREAT SCHOOL!

Freedom Academy is a school full of totally passionate teachers and administration. I've had the priveledge of knowing the Charter Director, Linda Hoffman, since she taught my own child many years ago. She is a proven leader with an unbridled passion for educational excellence. She surrounds herself with equally driven and dedicated teachers, and administration, which is the 'golden' key to success in any classroom. This committment ultimately transcends to the individual student, and increases their overall performance in the most positve way possible.

Freedom Academy South has been an outstanding school for my child and it starts with the principal, Linda Hoffman. Ms. Hoffman sets the standards so high that everyone around her wants to do their best including the kids. My son came from another school and the transition was seamless. The teachers are all the best I believe in the Valley! We are so lucky! PTO is phenomenal! I find this school to be a hidden gem, however, everyone needs to know that we have one of the best run schools in Arizona. A+ Excelling!!!

Freedom Academy is by far the BEST school I've ever seen. I decided to switch to Freedom Academy halfway through 7th grade after having a hard time at a public middle school, and that was the greatest decision I've made. The entire staff made me feel welcome and at home at Freedom Academy, and all of my teachers along with many other staff members got to know me on a personal level. My peers were extremely friendly, and I quickly became friends with almost every middle school student. My teachers were passionate about what they were teaching, which made learning fun, and I always knew I could go to them at any time to ask questions or get extra help on homework. I got to interact with younger student and spend time reading and doing math with the kindergarteners. For the first time, I loved school. I woke up in the morning excited to spend my day at Freedom Academy. My experience at Freedom Academy was truly amazing, and my only regret is not starting there sooner. I would recommend Freedom Academy to everyone because of the incredible staff, the comfortable learning environment, and the fact that Freedom Academy is a place where children develop an uncinditional love for learning.

I have a child in 6 th grade at this school and I can say that this school is wonderful! They make sure it is all about the students and their education! The only thing that I am sorry about this school is that it doesn't go thru high school. I recommend this school to everyone. The principal and all the staff are so amazing. They truly care about the kids!

It has been interesting to read for the first time some of the negative reviews this school has received. Knowing some of the parents who have recently pulled their child(ren) from Freedom Academy, does not speak ill of the school but further indicates the overwhelming self-centered, and immature nature of generation X. Ultimately the children will suffer at the hands of the undisciplined parents who will never find satisfaction in education which lovingly demands discipline and structure. As a very engaged parent at Freedom Academy and having received an education from the number one ranking school system in our nation, Freedom Academy is undoubtedly providing an educational experience which rivals our nations best. Thank you Linda, Barbara and each staff member for providing great schools that has and will produce exceptional leaders for future generations.

Oh my gosh, to hear the comments from these parents that didn't get their way and left our school is disgusting! They seem like spoiled children who "pitched a fit" and left our school and couldn't leave without telling everyone their ugly problems! If you want to go .... go but to put down a wonderful school who does nothing but try their best to provide children with the best education along with character, should be rewarded and not berated! It is disappointing when these kind of parents don't support their school and don't hold their kids accountable for the consequences for their child's own actions and instead blame the school!!!! As a parent of 3 students (one who currently attends and 2 that have graduated), I have to say this is the best school EVER! Freedom Academy provided everything fabulous in a grade school! I find it sad that the few "spoiled apples" are trying to ruin the reputation of a wonderful, well respected school! These kinds of mean comments always come from people who change schools because they don't get their way .... they'll find they will be in the same situation at their new school and posting bad things about that school soon enough!

I am encouraged to know I am not alone! It has been a while now but I chose to pull my child from freedom academy after having them there for many years. Though the school does offer a small intimate environment and many of the teachers truly do love the students, our local school district has so much more to offer and honestly just as safe and intimate. There was not one specific reason I pulled my child but looking back there were so many little things that we just excused because it was a small school that we should have never ignored. Largest complaint was the misleading conversations with the administration and the manipulation that is used between staff, administration and parents. I had multiple conversations where the administration said a teacher had a concern or a teacher felt a particular way which in conversations with teachers I have become friends with these conversations and feelings were not confirmed (actually denied) and even identified as over bearing micro managing by administration and obsession that every student equals dollars. For many families this may be the right fit, for most they will never see the wizard behind the curtain Choose wisely!

It saddens me to read negative comments regarding Freedom Academy. I am a parent at Freedom Academy and have had one graduate to go on to college with great success. The staff first priority is and has ALWAYS been the student first!!! Their mission statement speaks for itself......... Freedom Academy will provide each student an equal education that will equip them for the future by teaching character with integrity, honor and leadership, the desire to become lifelong learners, and become lifelong learners, and become positive contributors and participants within their families and their communities. I would highly recommmend this school to all and everyone that is willing to listen when it comes to the their child's education!

This school used to be so wonderful. Trying to keep up with the emotional and inconsistent leadership of a school run by emotionally driven divorced women drives me crazy and leaves children in tears. As a single mother myself, time and resources are limited, and I need a school to focus on the success of my kids and challenge them to succeed not leave them as the proving ground to socially adjust a few bad apples. The key leadership of this school is a social club of best friends who though well intended are putting the focus on saving a few troubled children at the cost of what was a safe positive environment where kids were encouraged to excel. My life has become the gossip and talk of office staff and teachers though to my face they are always so sweet. To hear that they have talked about me and my child in the same ways they have inappropriately shared information about other families is disheartening. I need to find another place to help my children succeed. Sadly I have to accept the fact that if I leave the school I will be slandered and written off as a difficult parent among the staff and other families unfortunate but it will be worth it for my family

After having 3 older sons in the same P.V neighborhood school since my 20 year old was in kindergarten, and having a 4th grader there until 2 weeks ago. I decided not to settle for how over crowded and overwhelmed the teachers are that it's lost it's personal touch. My 4th grader shadowed another student at Freedom Academy for a couple of hours to see if it was a move she wanted to make. When I picked her up and we sat in the car she said, "Mom I want to stay", and wanted to start the next day. When I walked in the office, I noticed how happy and kind they were. I emailed her teacher to see if I could get some math work from their past lessons to get her caught up. She emailed me that same morning and said she would give her a packet for her to work on during Thanksgiving break. And to top it off, she took the time to walk her through her first math test so it would make sense to her. Then you have the specials teachers that love their jobs, and it shows!! When you drop the children off and pick them up, many of the staff are there with smiling faces to make sure it runs smoothly and safely. This school is a hidden jewel!!!!

I have a child at FAN and I can't say that I love it, I am looking for a new school as we write this. I think how much attention your child gets is how you contribute financially to the school. The female teachers dress inappropriate they look as if they are going to a night club. My daughter has just fallen behind; I have addressed it with the principal but as I said if I contributed more than I would get special attention.

My child is also in the 5th grade at Freedom Academy and we love his teacher. I am not sure what teacher this other person is speaking about, but I have never seen any belittling and I know the principal would never tolerate such behavior if it was brought to her attention. The principal likely has a personal relationship with all the teachers which is one of many reasons this school is so wonderful. I also have a daughter in second grade and we are equally happy about her teacher. We have been with this school for nearly six years and any time we have had an issue regarding anything, the principal was immediately attentive to our needs I would and have recommended this school on a regular basis. The principal knows each child's name within the first week of school. Each of teachers goes out of their way to learn who all the students in the school are . . . not just the kids in their classes. Belittling is never acceptable and any action like that should be taken up with the principal. I don't think the school should receive one star because of that. This is an amazing school with teachers that give 110%. Amazing principal, amazing teachers, amazing P.E. Coach.

I give this school 5 stars! I have two children with learning disorders. I have had them in three schools in Scottsdale. Two repeatedly violated their 504's. Both children were 1-2 years behind academically when the got to FAN. The principle at this school goes above an beyond what is required. Her staff fully supports her. They take action. After two months my children are working at grade level and are doing well. Sure, there is lots of homework, lots of rules, but when you see your child succeeding, with a big smile on their face, it is SO worth it. This is a school that cares and is willing to do what it takes, but they cannot do it with out parent participation. Yes, it still has it's bullies, t takes every offense seriously. Every child matters, even the bully. If you want a school as a partner in your child academic and social successes, this is one to consider.

I can't begin to tell you how happy and excited my daughter who attends Kindergarten at FAS is every day when I pick her up. She can hardly wait to tell me about her day, and the enthusiasm she exudes melts my heart. She attended the same preschool for almost 3 years and this last year was really tough for her. She's very head strong and clashed with one of her pre-k teachers. Thankfully she got along well with the other one and they formed a strong bond. I think they labeled her as the "naughty one" - so she often came home and when I would ask about her day, she would only tell me if she was "a lot naughty", or just a "little naughty" never anything postitive. So this positive energy that she gets from her teacher, her new class, and the rest of the Freedom staff is like a breath of fresh air. She is like a different person, and I just wanted to say thank you!!

Freedom Academy ROCKS! I currently have 2 kids at Freedom and 1 that just graduated this past year. This will be our 9th year at Freedom and our family has been so happy there. The Principal takes the time to know each and every student and truly cares for them and the rest of the staff is just amazing. It really is a caring family and I'm so happy to be a part of it. Thank you Freedom Academy for all of the wonderful years that we have had with you and all of the great years to come!

Words cannot describe how thankful I am for Freedom Academy. I am completely at peace knowing that my children are safe, loved, accepted and receiving an excellent education. Mrs. Hoffman is always available to parents and students. The majority of her day is spent with students. She genuinely loves them and cares not only about their academic success, but about their hearts as though they are her own children. She befriends, counsels and teaches students how to be a friend and how to resolve conflict and make wise choices. She has insight into children's hearts and wisdom beyond her years. My oldest child had the privilege of knowing Ms. Guenther before she became the principal to the Norh Campus. He describes her as being kind, understanding and easy to talk to. She helped him through a difficult situation. I trust both principals to love, care for, and advise my children in the same way I do.

When looking for a school where my four little humans would be not only be "attending school", but also a place where the people would be sharing in my parenting job for 7 hours a day 5 days a week Freedom Academy was and remained my first choice for all of my time in Arizona. During the 7 years that we were privileged to attend there, our children received the highest quality of education of any of our family and friends in Arizona. Year over year, as my children advanced the teachers grew to care for my children as of they were their own. This brought a peace beyond any mother's imagination! All of this would never be possible without the amazingly awesome principal, Linda Hoffman! This last year we moved to Kansas and I am thrilled to report that all four of my little humans tested at or above levels when given the Kansas education placement test! All of their teachers here raved about how prepared they were and complimented me on what eager learners they all are... a quality I believe was nurtured by the Freedom family! Not only do my children miss Freedom Academy, my husband and I do as well. We say all the time, if we ever move back it will be for that school!

I'm not sure there is room here for all the wonderful things I have to say about Freedom Academy. I have one child who attends Freedom and another who graduated this year. We have been with Freedom for 9 yrs. I am thankful every day that I happened upon this school. Freedom Academy shines, not only because of the amazing principal, teachers and staff, but because of the values they intill in the students. I have never come across such a loving group of children. It doesn't matter if your child is typical, different, or disabled, they will be accepted and they will be loved. The principal does not tolerate bullying of any kind and the children are taught love and respect for one another. I couldn't disagree more regarding the comment about the principal being a "business woman". I know both principals from north and south campuses and I don't know anyone who would describe them as business women. They carry the best interest and love for each and every one of their children in their hearts 24/7. They are in the "business" of loving and teaching our children, and keeping the head count up so that they can CONTINUE to touch the lives of our children and many more to come.

We removed our son from public school prior to 2nd grade enrolling him in Freedom Academy South because he was falling thru the cracks. He struggles with ADD and missed some basics in public school. Freedom Academy appreciates his strengths, addresses his weaknesses, and challenges him to develop his character, integrity, personality/individuality. The school does not allow him to make excuses, the faculty confronts him appropriately, and challenges him to be better than he thinks he can be. He feels welcomed and protected. Extra academic help is available to him, and he is beginning to flourish.

Freedom Academy has been the best thing that has ever happened to my children. Whether you are dropping your kids off in the morning, or picking them up in the afternoon, the environment is so serene and nurturing. The teachers, principal and staff genuinely care about your children and want them to succeed. My girls academics have sky rocketed due to the smaller classrooms and more individualized attention, I can't say enough about what a positive experience it has been for my 7th grade girls! Our family tried several school options including private, public, and even an on-line charter school before finally landing at Freedom Academy. Thankfully, we found this wonderful school just in time for middle school. Our son excelled in all areas of his life while there. He played every sport offered. We saw our son's confidence level soar here at a pivotal time in his life. He exceeded on the AIMS test. I believe this school laid a foundation for success for his future! It is a loving caring community where he was not only taught good academics, but known and loved as a person. There is good balance there too (homework is not on steroids) He made some wonderful lifelong friendships and memories as well! There is access to the wonderful principal, teachers, and Coaches and they will all truly care about your child's success. We will remain friends with many of them! I can't say enough good about this school...it's unbelievable that it is a free charter school! We'd pay to go there! We had a wonderful experience - actually the best experience of any school we've gone to!

I have been very happy with Freedom Academy for the past 6 years my son has attended the south location. I love how my son is not just one of many students. He is not a number. Every teacher he has had over the years seems to truly care about his academic progress and his happiness as a child. He feels safe there and the culture is one of family and respect. You don't hear the students using foul langugage or engaging in appropriate behaviors. It's nothing like the public schools I attended as a child. I also appreciate the devotion each teacher has had to teaching to each unique learner. No one gets lost in the shuffle here! I am also impressed by how many of my son's teachers already had their masters degree and were still continuing their education! They want to grow and get better and better--even being in a state that doesn't support them. Freedom is a great choice!

I am beginning to notice changes in this school. The principal is getting soft on discipline and is more concerned about students "feelings." She doesn't want any student offended in any way so my daughter was scolded when she handed out birthday invitations to her friends. When I reported a student I witnessed throwing rocks toward younger students on the playground no one appeared to approach this boy who was obviously being punished because he would not leave the picnic table at which he was seated. I had heard good things about this school and it was 1 of 2 choices I had in the area. I left the choice to my daughter who was going into kindergarten last year. I was very happy with her kindergarten teacher last year. She is completing 1st grade this year and has made Principal's List twice. She reads above her grade level and her teacher has referred to her as high functioning but I am afraid she may lose her edge. I am going to keep a close eye on things next year and look into the north campus. I have heard that principal is a strong leader and that campus is superior to the south campus. I hope I am wrong with these concerns for the sake of my daughter.

Very impressed with FAN. We came from a homeschool environment and my children are thriving at school as much as they were at home. Very friendly group of parents, loving children. Ms. Teri in the office is a very talented and professional gal, from bandaids to lost lunchbags, she takes of our children like they are her own. Ms. Guenther is in incredible leader. We are so thankful we found this nurturing, small school. Easy for parents to be involved. Thank you FAN!

Keep this a secret Freedom Academy, North campus, is a great school and will start a 9th grade next year. We came from an overcrowded, stressful Scottsdale public school and the change in my kids has been amazing. They love to go to school! Wow! They love the smaller classroom size, outstanding teacher attention, and great school lunches. One of my kids had daily headaches at public school and those immediately disappeared. Since everyone knows each other so well, there is less opportunity for problematic behavior, and, when it occurs, it is taken care of quickly and fairly. The principal is amazing and hires great teachers. One of my children has a learning disability but he s able to perform in the classroom and is not called out or called names . My other child is a self starter and performs well without much work. The school is a great fit for both of our kids. The teachers have capped classroom sizes and in class assistance as needed. So, the teachers can teach! The campus is beautiful and peaceful. What a great place!

If your child has any type of learning issue I would not come to this school. I felt very pressured by the staff to enroll elsewhere, they seem more concerned with their aims test scores and their ranking as a top school. My sons teacher was very short with him and would yell at him asking him what was wrong with him....well he has a learning disability, that's what's wrong with him. It was a horrible year. I have enrolled at another school and have surprisingly enough met several other parents who have had a very similar experience. Even the principal at our new school explained Freedom has a reputation for this type of treatment.

This school seems like an okay school if your child is an excelling student. I dont like how each week or so my kid comes home with a flyer asking for money for one thing or another. Lots of asking for money here. Not the school for you if one, you don't have alot of extra money, or two, you have a struggling learner. Principal seems to be a nice person. Didn't like the pressure to chip in for a new laptop for the teacher day either. Each student was to bring a gift and donation for teacher day.....lots of asking for money here.

***FAN*** *Principal has a great code of conduct book she does not follow *Does not stop bullying *Teachers do not have the support of a leader *Children are being failed when they are not given the proper tools to succeed *This school had potential with parents and a PTO to support it but losing battle with the leadership **NONE*** *Total disappointment*

After teaching at Freedom Academy for the past 3 years, I must say that the school is a pure diamond amidst stones. Each child is provided with the academic (and many times emotional) support they need in order to succeed in both their education AND in life. Many teachers choose to tutor after school and spend their "breaks" working one-on-one with students. There are now two campuses and they are unique in their own ways. After working at Freedom for a number of years, I strongly support Freedom Academy, its staff, and heart for children.

I must start by saying that this school has 2 campuses. The north campus, which opened in August 2009, is where my children attend 4th and 8th grade. I have nothing but positive things to say about this school and the staff. We have been to several public schools and another charter school in the past. Freedom Academy North far outshines them all. The principal is very involved in all aspects of the school and makes it a point to know all students by name. The teachers were scrupulously hired when the school opened and are dedicated to their students. With the limited class sizes, it's easy to moniter student progress and any behavior issues that come up. The discipine policy is firm, but fair. The PTO is very active. Parent volunteers are visible and encouraged. Not much, yet, in the way of extracurricular activities. Maybe more as the school grows.

My child has attended Kindergarten at Freedom Academy this year and it has been the best experience. His teacher is very kind and caring and academically challenges him. He loves the reading program and has become a confident young reader who can't wait to go to school every day. It has been a great year! We look forward to many more years at Freedom.

FAN is our best school experience yet, by far. In N. Scottsdale, we have previously attended the top-rated public school, a K-8 Private School, a Charter 6-12 Academy, and an online school. The Principal here is professional, kind, and demands a high level of instruction and involvement from her staff. Freedom has more strict behavioral standards so they actually finish their work in school and, thus, have appropriate homework levels. My two children's writing has measurably improved and they come home happy. Freedom has started to implement some brain-integration exercises and learning enhancements. No bullying that I have ever heard of. PTA here is fun... mostly parents who have become disillusioned with other schools and their attitudes/leniancy. You won't find any special privilege for the 'who's who' here. They have been most accommodating when I have taken my children out to travel. I only wish they had a high school!!!

I only had my son there for a month so I may not have the whole picture, but. . . I had high hopes based on the reviews and was disappointed. He is in KG and his teacher was cold and misspelled. She never said hi or looked me in the eye when I brought him in. At a bday party, talking to a few parents, several mentioned their children were special needs. My husband saw a fifth grader 'herd' a kindergartener into a wall and my son told me an older boy ripped his friends paper airplane at recess. I don't know why they have kindergarteners and 5th graders out at the same time. The facilities are run-down, which is expected with the charter school funding. I liked the diversity of the student body & small class sizes very much. Test scores mediocre. Not up to east-coast standards.

My son is a 4th grader at Freedom Academy and I couldn't be happier with his progress academically. His teacher challenges him without adding unfair pressure and it's clear she is invested in his learning and his happiness. I enjoy the small and family focused environment of the school and I appreciate the friendly nature of all staff members. My son has attended Freedom Academy since K and I love being able to say that each year, he had a great year!

My son attended freedom for his fifth grade year. Because of this school my son was diagnosed with a learning disability. If we would not have attended freedom and wiothout the help of Mrs. Hoffman and Mrs. Troxell my baby would have continued withoput the help he needed. We are homeschooling this year and The School has continued to support us. Mrs. Hoffman even sends my Son emails to with him Happy Birthday! This school is full of love and Personal attention! even when you are no longer a student. Jenifer

My daughter started at Freedom last year and there is nothing that we don't love about this school. The teachers challenge the students in many different ways and they know all of the kids, not just the ones in their class. The Principal, Mrs. Hoffman, knows every child by name as well as something special about each of them. They really do enforce their 'no tolerence' policies, unlike some schools. Thanks Freedom Academy for all you do!

This school rocks!!! The staff truly cares about the indivuality of each child and inhances it every chance they get. My Daughter was excited and challanged by the superb Mr. Fleegle and there was never a dull moment! I would recommend this school and its ability to find just the right nich for each student to any parent!!! One important point, Freedom Academy turned the infamous AIMS testing into a challange that was actually exciting for my children it wasnt nerve racking or stressful for them and they Rocked It!!'Great Job Freedom'

We just switched from a highly rated 'spanish immersion' program at our public elementary school. From day 1, our daughter was unhappy there. I cannot tell you how happy we are at Freedom and that we made the switch. Our daughter has so much excitement everyday for school again and for learning. She has made many new friends. We really do feel like 'family' here. Best kept secret in town!!!

The teachers at Freedom Academy are very interested in helping the students learn and achieve. They develop many unique ways for learning because each child learns differently. I'm sorry I didn't put my child in there earlier. We switched this year because my granddaughter started 6th grade and we didn't think she was ready for the local junior high. She is really enjoying school this year and learning much more and at a faster pace.

Freedom Academy has been a wonderful experience for my daughter. The teachers are dedicated and genuinely kind. My daughter's teacher sends home reading material geared toward her reading level so that she can develop her vocabularly steadily. The hands-on projects that the teachers develop are exciting for the students. Freedom Academy's staff, students, and parents really are like a family. The principal is the most passionate educator I have ever met. I am an educator, so I am a critical observer, and I have only positive comments. We are so blessed to have found Freedom Academy!

I have been a parent at Freedom Academy since its opening and what started out as a shaky beginning has developed into a school that is excelling academically. The Principal has as much passion and love for my child as I do for all my children. The staff and their unconditional love for each and their students is beyond words. The Aftercare program helps students with their homework and is a place where parents can have peace leaving their child in a safe environment. This is my child's last year at Freedom as she will be graduating and I know she is going to miss it as much as we are. (Oh wait I am not going anywhere she is) Freedom Academy truly is a family!

My son is currently a second grade student at Freedom, and has been attending since he was in kindergarten. I cannot say enough about the Freedom Academy. The education my son is getting is top notch, and far more advanced then his friends that attend public schooling. In fact his aunt who teaches third grade at a public school in Desert Ridge, says what he is learning in second grade is what she is teachinig in third grad. The principal and teaching staff are wonderful, and truly care about the childrens education and safety. My youngest son will be attending next year as a kindergartener, and I can't wait.

Our son is a new student at Freedom this year, and we cannot be happier. The genuine care for our son has been so evident, and I have been very impressed by the passion is leadership I have seen and the desire to make what is great even better. This school is definitely worth looking at.

I am an 8th grade student at Freedom Academy. I have been attending this school for 4 years and I am extremely proud to be enrolled here. The principal creates a unique relationship with each student, and the teachers understand how to maintain a creative learning environment through out the school year. Each year this school becomes better, and I am sad to be leaving this year for high school. Moving to this school has been an experience that I would simply not be the same with out.

We came to Freedome last school year and have been very pleased with the quality of education our kids are getting. The school is growing and it is an exciting time to be involved. The principal obviously cares about every student and has made great strides in creating a very effective team with her staff. This year, there is greater emphasis on respect and focus on traditional values.

We happened along Freedom Academy 5 years ago by accident, and so happy we did. It just gets better and better every year. My children's teachers show genuine concern for their well being and continued success and my kids are excelling in all areas. The principal is involved, visible, and knows every student by name. The PTO is incredible, and creative with opportunities for students and their families to get to know each other and teachers outside of school hours. The Aftercare Program this year has been awesome. The kids are kept occupied with activities, and time to complete homework. I have recommended this school to several families and only wish it continued on through High School.

The Aftercare program at Freedom Academy has had several organizational structures over the past two years however it is now solidified and has received its license by the State. We have experienced, well-qualified Teacher/Care-Givers on staff and provide group tutoring and homework assistance daily. We have a proven track record of improved grades of students in our program and we can provide help with the exceptional learners as well. We look forward to serving the children of Freedom Academy!

Freedom Academy is a wonderful school with an awesome principal and excellent teachers. The principal cares so much about the children, she knows them all by name, and is available and helpful should any problem arise. Most of the time she has addressed the problem before I have even spoken to her. I can't say enough wonderful things about Freedom Academy. My child has been there for 5 years.

I cannot say enough great things about Freedom Academy. Children are challenged to be the best they can be in a non threatening, flexible, intimate environment. The teachers and the principal are top notch and it is obvious they are doing what they do because they love doing it. It amazes me every day how happy my son is when he comes home from school. This is a very special place to be and I am so glad we found it for our son.

The academic programs are of a high standard. There are no extra curricular activities and this is not a school you want to enrol your child in if you are a working parent. The aftercare program is abyssmal. This is a great school for younger children but as they go to higher grades the facilities are not conducive to an enriching learning experience with older children resorting to teasing and bullying due to boredom and lack of progams to stmulate them,.

This is our 4th year at Freedom Academy and we couldn't be happier! We have three daughters who are in kindergarten, 1st grade and 5th grade. They are all doing wonderfully and absolutely love school. We love the small school feel and the parental involvement is just awesome! I've never seen a school where everyone cares so much! The teachers, the principal and the office staff are so friendly and caring. I can't imagine ever going to another school. We are so blessed to be a part of it!

My son is in Kindergarten, he loves the teacher and I am pleased with the small setting. However I am not too impressed with the teachers organiation I don't feel my son is being challenged. I have no idea whats going on in the classroom I try to ask but feel I am getting the run around. It seems as though the teachers are given too much freedom in the class when it comes to curriculum I get the feeling that the teacher is just winging it day by day, unprepared. I am dissapointed, but my son is happy and comfortable and I am still leary about continueing to keep him there. Also the pick-up situation is not the best.

This is our 3rd year at Freedom and we have been very happy with our child's education. The teachers are exceptional and the academics and school atmosphere are superb. Every child should be lucky enough to attend a school as wonderful as this one. We know of many private schools around that cost a fortune and the children receive half of the education. Freedom is a shining example of caring, intelligent individuals providing and education unmatched by any other school around.

This is my thrid year at Freedom Academy and there were some ups and downs, but that will happen in any school throughtout the valley. The 2004/2005 school year was a complete turn around in all areas. My Children's total needs were met both acamemically and emotionaly. One of my children has extra needs and the resousrce room has given them the opportunity to succed academically. The principal has met each and every concern I have had. The teachers are fantastic. The office people have gone above and beyond what any other school would have done. The PTO has completed the success this year with their unending blessings for each parent, student, teacher and staff. THANK YOU FREEDOM ACADEMY!!!!!!!

When my daughter was ready for Kindegarten I toured several schools in our area. They varied from public, private & charter. I was pleasently suprised when I came across Freedom. It had a warm and inviting group of teachers & staff. Principal was pleasent and informative but most important had the students safety & success formost in her plan. The teachers are dedicated, knowledgable and caring. Students are provided an exciting and encouraging place to learn. We have been there 3 years and each year my daughter's teacher amazes me in their lesson plans, activities, and concern for each individual student. My daughter is in second grade and is challenged every day do go beyond what she ever thought she could accomplish. She is excited to go to school, is sad when she is ill and will miss out on the days activites and seeing her teacher. We're truly Blessed!!!!!

Freedom Academy is an excellent school! The teachers and staff are well-trained and motivate the students to do their best every day. There is a 'small school' atmosphere where every child is important and is shown great care and concern. The teachers have instilled a great love of learning in my children. They love to go to school!

I have three children attending Freedom Academy. This is our third year. I drive 30 minutes to get there because of the incredible teachers and caring staff. My daughter was getting lost in the Cave Creek school district due to large class sizes and burned out teachers. Her reading problems were significant and weren't being properly addressed causing her to fall farther behind. She thrives in a school with smaller class sizes and personal attention. The uniform policy helps level the playing field. The academics are excellent. My son is in an all day kindergarten class and is learning things my girls learned in 1st and 2nd grade. The sucess and self-esteem of my children is important to me. My children love this school. I have referred people to this school and their families are happy there too. We can't imagine going anywhere else. We look forward to next year!

The school this year has been wonderful! The principal has done an excellent job of turning the school around. Our family still has some concern regarding the upper grades both with teacher control and curriculum. It seems at times that the upper grade teachers just don't care what happens. Unfortunately, this affects the lower grades. There are times we're not sure how we will be greeted in the office either, but overall, we love Freedom Academy and wait to see what will happen in the future.

Freedom Academy was a disappointment this year. There were major issues with the principal that were not dealt with until recently and two teachers were let go for unacceptable behavior. Freedom Academy lacks extracurricular activities and a lot of parents are moving on. Freedom Academy does have a new principal who will be great for the job. Unfortunately, things were allowed to go on for too long and the parents are not willing to wait around another school year to see what will happen. The school as a whole is very disorganized and the ofice staff is rude.

The 2003-2004 school year was a waste of time at Freedom Academy. The middle school teachers were not capable of keeping their personal feelings and (inappropriate) stories out of the classroom or even keeping the class under control. Time and again, we tried to get the principal to do something, but it wasn't until the school year was mostly over that the two teachers and the principal were let go. There is a new principal there now who seems to be aggressively pursuing getting teachers in who will raise the bar, but we don't have any more time to cross our fingers and hope that things get better. We're going back to our old school. I'm marking 'Principal Leadership' at a 4 now for the current principal, but the old principal was about a 2 and Pinnacle Education took until February or March to do something about it.
