Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

CHS is overrated. Middle of the road students are the least educated. The focus is at the extremes of the spectrum. Teachers at these ends can be talented but arrogant, while the majority of students are herded into large classes with mediocre teachers. Not the best place for students who need or want inspired examples, passion, attention and direction.

The school doesn't score that well on math and science standardized tests considering its ranking overall. Guidance is pretty limited and there's a feeling of preferential treatment for the more advanced students. A lot of teachers don't give any feedback or return work and tests. Overall, not so great compared to other schools in other states especially.

CHS is a great learning environment. My older daughter has just begun her freshman year in an out of state college and CHS prepared her extremely well with honors classes and AP courses. We are pleased and hopeful that the level of academics remains high there for our next child.

Surprisingly good. We moved from very good public school system on E. coast Two kids - one a high achiever and one with learning issues. The teacher quality has been very good - in general - with notable exceptions where kids go to extremes to avoid specific teachers (on-line courses) but that concern is not endemic or an issue only for Chaparral. One of our kids went to elite private school in E with similar issues. Support for our child with learning disabilities has been quite good; most private schools can't compete in that area. AP courses have been very good and accessible. Resultant SAT scores very good. In general kids are great and of high quality. Parent involvement is high and sports programs are outstanding for boys and girls. THIS QUESTIONAIR NEEDS A MEANS TO NOT RESPOND ABOUT PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP - IF ONE IS NOT IN A POSITION TO EVALUATE. I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO EVALUATE SOMETHING THAT I HAVE NOT BEEN INTIMATELY INVOLVED IN. WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS? THAT REQUIREMENT PROBABLY DAMPENS INTEREST IN COMPLETING SUCH QUESTIONAIRES BECAUSE OF SECURITY ISSUES.

This school is amazing! Yes, it can be a bit cliquey but there are few people who unwilling to talk to new students just because they are new. Chaparral iis THE most spirited school in the state. Our team are back to back state champions, our boys basketball team has been state runner ups for the past two years, our cheer team are back to back national champions and Arizona State champions, our Pom Squad placed top 5 at Nationals in florida, our girls basketball team has made it to the playoffs the past two years, the wrestling team has had 3 2nd place winners at the state championships, our swim team won state last year, our badmiton team won state this past year and we have several other excelling sports. Not are the sports amazing but the academics are great as well. There has been a student from Chaparral accepted to almost every school in the country (that were applied to) including Princeton and Oberlin. Our Arts programs are also amazing! We have had 4 plays this year with more coming. We have several students who are part of the National Thespian Society as well as several students who have been recongnized throughout the state for their art. Overall this school is great!

Amazing School! Great for academics, sports and the arts! The Principals and Security Officers really work hard to make sure that the children are safe 100% of the time. The teachers are great and very helpful and understanding of children who may have problems in their class.

We started at Chaparral because of the great Lacrosse reputation and overall athletic high standards. They did not let us down. This school has some of the best coaches in the country. There are many other great things I hear about this school academically. My kids love it. Parenting isn't over yet. This school is real life that they should be preparing for and learning about. Stay close to them and know who their friends are then you shouldn't have any trouble.

The Life Skills program at Chaparral is outstanding. The teachers and administration are caring and committed to providing the best for the life skills students. The students of Chaparral are supportive and include the special needs students in campus activities. Chaparral is the best place for special needs students.

I have been going to Chaparral and I can say that I am not disappointeed. The best is the academics and the teachers, the teachers are great. I do not know about regular clases but the honors calsses at Chaparral are difficult. The English, Science and Math is difficult and is very useful. I have seen the IB program and its classes, I personally believe that the cirriculum and teachers at Chaparral are more difficult and more entertaining to listen to. Great Schol, altough there are bad influences of drugs which people need to stay away from. Well, its there in almost very public school.

I'm very pleased with Chaparral and glad my son is there. They have great, experienced teachers (most have over 25 years under their belt,) excellent sports, and Chaparral is a very safe campus.

Chaparral is an excellent high school. The teachers are top notch. The honors classes are challenging. This is a great school and offers a wonderful foundation for any college.

Unchallenging and uninteresting school. If you want to go to a school with the brattiest wealthiest people in Arizona go here. Serious drug problems and violence among the students. Strong clique mentality and at one point we were considered the next likely Colombine. I failed almost every class, my friends bought drugs off the security guards, and I still went on to get a Ph.D. from an Ivy league school without their help.

My daughter transfered from Notre Dame Prep to Chaparral and I had no problem with it. Chaparral truly is better in all aspects, the kids are happier, the education is the same but Chaparral's teachers are more experienced, and the campus is more welcoming (classrooms, etc.)

this is a great school if you are looking for sports, clubs, and some challenging academic classes. although remember that just like in any high school there will be drama, popularity problems, and that the main student body is well to do. if your child cannot compete with this, it is not the school for him/her. although remember everyone has to learn the world isn't painted with roses

Coming from Cochise & Cocopah, we expected this school to be as poorly run and academically unchallenging as they were. Fortunately, we found the honors and AP programs are wonderful. There are some great teachers there that really inspire your students with a few teachers who become the bane of your existence and you just pray for the end of the school year. Overall, the academics are challenging and excellent. In looking at colleges throughout the nation, it is gratifying to note that they are very aware of Chaparral and its excellent reputation. There is every kind of club to be involved in as well as sports. It is also an excellent school if you have problems with your student. One of our children was very sick for a long while and they went out of their way to help us in every way possible. It is a GREAT school!

Everything is at Chaparral - academics, sports, clubs, counseling; however, know your child. If they are not motivated or competitive, this is not the place for them. Of my three, one was lost and no one made a difference (much as my husband and I tried); I felt he fell between the cracks there. Two jumped in and took advantage of all that is offered-honors classes, clubs, sports. Parent involvement is expected and makes a difference. Of course, problems exist as in any large public school, but security/adm. handle it quickly and effectively from my perspective. I have never felt my children are unsafe. A few other positives: excellent special ed department; love that it is a closed campus.

I had high expectations for this school & I have to say I was unimpressed. I had two children attend this school that did very well academically with very little effort. I feel they lost valuable 'study skills' due to not being pushed in the top classes. Teachers tend to teach to the norm in the classes. Extracurricular activities were very good but several incidents that we experienced could have been dealt by following policy and not influenced by pushy, over involved parents. That, I believe is the biggest problem at this school, wealthy parents that interfere with decision making at all levels. We are in an affluent neighborhood and these things are to be expected but leadership needs to should be shown in all areas.

Chaparral has done a great job in preparing my four children for college and beyond, both academically and in extracurricular activities. It surely has to compare favorably to the finest schools in the nation and is undoubtedly the best in Arizona by nearly any measure. The leadership has been outstanding for at least the past decade and the teachers are engaged, highly professional and care about individual students. Expectations are high, excellence is the norm and the community at large is committed in making the educational experience at Chaparral as good as possible. Chaparral compares very favorably to the best schools in Fairfax County, VA, which has some of the best schools in the country and where we were before. The physical plant is now undergoing a much-needed upgrade, but Chaparral is a great example of people creating a great school despite less than stellar buildings. And, yes, the athletics rule.

Chaparral is the best school in Arizona I could have gone to to prepare me for my university, Vanderbilt University. The academic programs are wonderful with fabulous teachers who care about your grades as well as what is going on in your life. I had a number of teachers come cheer me on at volleyball games multiple times throughout my four years of high school, which proved to me that they were really interested. The sports are fanastic and the parent involvement is great too, as demonstrated by their hard work in activities such as Project Graduation. I love this high school!

When we moved to AZ a year ago we only looked at houses that would have Chaparral as its high school. Our first year experience was very possitive. The teaching staff is excellent. Very active parents group. Limited in teaching of foreing languages (only three and one is Latin).

Overall we felt that Chaparral High School was a very good experience for our son who went all four years. We feel that he got one of the best public school educations that AZ has to offer. We specifically moved to Scottsdale (from North Central Phoenix) so that he could go to Chaparral. Our biggest disappointment was the appearance and physical condition of the school. It really needs to be remodeled and updated.
