My child went to Big Park from second grade to 8th. Overall, I am glad he went to Big Park as it is a community school. As with any public school some teachers were better than others. My one issue or complaint is that the writing program is non-existent. Other than his 4th grade teacher, there was no real instructive emphasis on writing instruction. Developing writing skills and action needs to start early!!!! You can not wait until 8th grade, Spring semester to teach them writing as in a five paragraph essay.

What a wonderful and caring school! My grandson attended kindergarten through 8th grade. The teachers all encouraged and helped him to do his best. They also cared about him as a unique person. At first I thought the school was too strict and "old fashioned." But I was mistaken when I saw that they upheld very clear boundaries and kept the teaching to the highest standards. For the first time, my children are happy to go to school...that's all I need to know. It doesn't hurt that their teachers are an absolute joy to interact with.

Great, small school with dedicated, qualified teachers. Alp offered part-time, excellent special needs program. Very safe, zero tolerance re bullying, teasing. Newer school with huge classrooms. High test scores. Excellent school!

Big Park Community School has an excellent reputation in our community. 6th grade was quite a challenge as a parent because communication and feedback from the teachers was not forthcoming. 5th grade was great for parent/teacher interaction. I'm sad to see the best kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Nelson, retire. She has been a tremendous asset to the school and will be missed.

I have found the school to be friendly with a warm atmosphere. The principal and assistant principal have been making some positive changes around the school. The teachers are dedicated and my children have had fun in the sports programs provided.

My child loves to go to school everyday. This is the only indicator I need for a successful school. The administration is effective and work together well. I love the school!

We live in the Village of Oak Creek because of Big Park Community School. I'm thrilled that Russ Snider, former principal, is at Red Rock High School because he set the standard. 6th grade was quite a dissappointment due to the lack of organization of both teachers. That has been the only negative experience. It is the best school in the Verde Valley area.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
