I have found Sedona Charter School to be a very caring and safe place for children. It is sad to see negative reviews here that are simply untrue. Teacher student ratio is 1 to 15 with individualized learning paths for every child. Yes, perhaps Montessori education might not work for every single child in Sedona, but to bash a school and write things that are untrue is so disheartening.
The students do well on standardized tests and develop leadership skills. When I was on a recent field trip with the class, the facility guide remarked that our students were the best group they'd had! You need effective teachers to make that happen!
Students are taught to work hard, no matter what their innate talent. The strings program is really good for this, too--students learn that if they work hard at something they keep getting better, even year after year.
The students celebrate the successes of others. Compassion and caring are strongly emphasized by teaching staff. These characteristics are emphasized MUCH more than "winning" or "beating" other people or teams.
There are community meetings in each classroom almost everyday where honesty, integrity, fairness, kindness, and peace are discussed. Students receive training on how to resolve differences and think about others.
My son had a wonderful experience at Sedona Charter School. He attended for grades 1 through 8, and benefited from teachers who were really committed to his success--not just at school, but his success in life. They taught him about working independently, working with others, and being comfortable speaking in front of large and small groups. His success in high school and the workplace is due in large part to the foundation he received at Charter.
