The Shonto School "District" would be better equipped with a supportive staff. Instead of being run by a few Secretaries/ Assistants this school would benefit from actually listening to the local community. I've talked and listened to some staff members and the community and found out that a lot of the Shonto staff are feeling unheard and over-run by the current administration.

How about the Shonto School District tries to keep some of the top administrators and get rid of the ones who are always on travel spending money we don't have. Also, why do we hire the " throw backs" that the better schools won't hire due to misuse of funds at previous schools. Practice what you preach by keeping our students first!

The school leadership is a disgrace. They hire people for positions they are not qualified for and pay them twice as much. This is done to those who are 'Spains' favorites. The hardworking teachers deserve to be reconized too for their hard work and determination. The teachers are the ones who are taking care of our kids and making sure they are doing the best that they can and are staying out of trouble. I have heard that the teachers are actually making less this year because of a raise in rent and in insurance. Is this how we should be treating them. No. The middle school teachers for the most part are a bunch of fresh faces. Lets hope that the old ones don't chase them off like they have been known to do in the past. It is time for an administration change, for the children and teachers.

Shonto Preparatory School (K-8) Principal is taking the right direction for our school. Teachers are working hard and they need all the support by having the students attend schools every day.

I believe the principle, (Dr. Spain) is doing the best job at placing more qualified teachers in the classrooms. This has been only her third year...give her some time and things will change. The change is already happening. I believe the school will get to where it is out standing. As far as parent involvement and student participation...I would say it is up to us parents, we don't need the staff of Shonto prep. to tell us to get involved. Afterall we are adults!

My son and daughter were promoted to high school after attending Shonto Preparatory School and have excelled beyond our expectations. Thanks to all the teachers and staff who have been positive role models for them. It takes a lot of hard work from each student, parents, teachers, and principal. Academically, the teachers are not motivated enough to work with the children. There are no hands-ons activities available for students. No confidentiality within the school by staff members, incident happens and the whole district is aware of it. Music is available but not good enough to start a band. Sports, on a losing streak - not like it was when we were in school -we were always undefeated. Parent Involvement, lacking participation because grandparents are the main caregivers of students, parents travel to their jobs off the reservation.

The level of parent involvement falls far below for this school. The school report cards are not easily understandable by the parent and do not reflect student GPA. There's no student handbook available for parents.
