I am so thrilled with this school! My child started in the middle of the school year in a desperate attempt by me to find a school that she would get the attention and care that she needed as an ADHD student that is not on medication. I wanted a school that would work with her instead of labeling her. This is the place. They have not only worked with her in the way that makes her want to focus but they have never called me to complain about how "out of control" my child is like the other schools did. This school has done more for her in the last 3 months of school then any other was able to do in an entire year. This school tells their teachers to "Get to the bottom line" and I love that! Not only do they help their students get through a hard math problem but they encourage these young people to work out their problems in a calm manner. As a parent who has worked in schools before I have seen teachers yell and scream at children that are having an issue with one another, but this school just calmly asks them to work it out. I LOVE JEFFERSON!

Jefferson Academy is place where the administrators, staff, teachers, and parents get involved with a child's educational life journey. The difference being teachers are attune to a child's developmental and cognitive needs, and embrace those needs through fun and interactive learning, encouragement, and positive recognition reward; a happy child is a child that's learning. The classrooms are clean, bright, and conducive to learning. The atmosphere is positive and upbeat, i.e., get dirty, make mistakes, and have fun. There is also a ZERO TOLERANCE bullying policy that works. I only wish they had a larger budget for more field trips, computers, and an art / theater program; greater intelligence brews in the imagination. Lastly, it's the small things, like always having someone at the front door to greet you with a warm salutation (adults and children alike), that provide children with a lesson in manners, social conscientiousness, and respect. "Doing", teaches children through example, brilliant! Jefferson Academy is a bright star in the community and should serve as a model for all the schools in the community. My daughter loves her teacher, and today when she left for a half day she wanted to know why she couldn't return. I asked her if she was MY kid because my daughter hated school before coming here! I am a believer now. Thanks Jefferson for making learning fun.

We went to a top notch High School. But my child is slightly different and struggles with a learning disability that did not fall into the "box" . My child was placed in a humiliating classroom without any possibly to form the social support needed for sucess, then threw my child even further down the social steps by forcing them walk from classroom to classroom collecting trash from the "normal" classes while class was in session, assuring they would be a social outcast! At Jefferson Academy my child was not sent to the "island of misfit toys" then paraded around. Instead their learning difficulties were met with caring concerned staff members that motivated my child to bring out their strengths so they could easily overcome their weaknesses without being ostracized, or shamed. What a difference self esteem makes. I would recommend this school to everyone that is tired of their children feeling they have to fit into a "box" to be successful. My child for the first time ever feels like they can lead a functional and fulfilling life. Something I have been trying to instill in them all along, but with the support of their school behind them, it truly has been miracle for us!

This is a school with heart! Not only do our kids feel safe and secure in the fact that everyone knows who they are & where they belong, they have grown academically in leaps and bounds over our expectations. The instruction is based on each child's level of understanding. No one berates a student for not knowing a particular subject, or providing an incorrect answer, they just show tremendous patience and keep working on finding a way to help that student grasp the subject matter. We intend to keep our children here from elementary school through high school - there is NO better school in the White Mountains than Jefferson! To our wonderful teachers, THANK YOU for everything you do for the kids!

My son was in 5th grade and was having difficulty with other students bullying him at school. He smiles and is enjoying school again. What a great experience he has had at Jefferson. He is excelling in school and has gained self esteem back again. Thanks Jefferson.

My 8th grader was losing interest in school and by week three of this school year, I realized I had to provide her with a more stimulating environment where she would be around other kids who were enrolled for the purpose of focusing on education. The student/ teacher ratio is so low that she not only is getting the education she needs, but also attention to music, languages and culture. Now when I call the teacher, I get her on the phone without waiting one to three days to hear back. And my 8th grader really loves it. Most of the kids are friendly and supportive of eachother. And what I like to see is that the kids still act like kids - no adult posturing, no cool clothes (there is a dress code), no bullying. I wish you luck with your child's education!
