Zuni Hills Elementary is one of the finest academic environments in the Phoenix area. The philosophy of the school centers on the child. The climate is safe, the teachers of experience and caring. New educational philosophies are utilized. The principal makes his presents know and is available to all student, teachers, parents and supportative staff. It is an honor to have a child experience such an academic superior school in a caring, safe evniroment.

This is a well run school with innovative teachers and a great administrative staff. They strive to challenge the children academically and teach them to be good citizens.

My daughter attends kindergarten at zuni. I feel that the school does what it has to, to get by. Maybe that's the way all elementary schoools are now days? So we are looking for other options for 1st grade.

I have nothing to say but good things about Zuni Hills. I love this school!

I have 2 children that attend Zuni Hills. My son has needed extra help through some emotional issues and the staff at Zuni Hills was incredibly helpful! My daughter has AD/HD and the staff at Zuni did not hesitate to step up and assist me in the understanding and use of programs that can and were implemented to help her. The teachers work well with eachother and other staff members to adapt to student's personalities and needs. The principal is very supportive and makes an effort to know the students! I feel the whole school staff strives to make Zuni a wonderful part of our community and an A+ school!

I have been unimpressed at best by Zuni Hills. I have found the teachers to be below average. My children have been injured on the playground and were refused access to the school nurse. The bus system is ineffecient and ill-equipped to handle new riders. Not once, not twice, but three times my daughter was lost...though we did find her in a matter of 30 minutes, I find this unacceptable.

I think Zuni Hills leaves a lot to be desired. When they opened thier doors, they opened late, and they did not seem ready. Most teachers were new, and some ready for retirment. Zuni Hills also is not well set up for the Arizona weather, there is no shaded area on the playground, and PE has to be outside no matter how hot. They have a multipourpose room only, used for everything.

Our son's first year at Zuni Hills was a bit rough due to the fact that he was unchallenged in the lessons, but the past two years have been much better! We have felt that we are welcome in the school anytime, and we have seen a big improvement in communication with the staff!

This is our first year at Zuni Hills and so far I have nothing but good things to say. My son enjoys his class and his teacher. He is learning and having a great time as well. His teacher is great at communicating with me and the office staff has been very helpful every time I have spoken with them. I think they are doing a wonderful job.

As a parent of a child with special needs, I am very happy with the level of effort put forth by teachers to meet my child's needs. They have been both caring and professional.

I think Zuni Hills has the potential to be a good school, but I feel many of the teachers are still very new at this and don't communicate well with the students or parents. When questioned on comments or notes made in students daily journals, they seem to back down from their initial statements. I do think they have a better relationship with students than some of the older teachers. We tried to have our son moved into an advanced class and were unable to, even though we had provided past SAT scores and previous report cards. Our son has continued all year to be unchallenged and unstimulated in this class. It's a shame that this class academic structure is just now picking up where my son left off at the end of 6th grade. I feel it was mostly a wasted school year.

I am happy with the teachers and administration at Zuni Hills. It has a positive atmosphere and education is their highest priority.

My children have attended 4 schools in the Peoria District due to new schools being built and Zuni Hills is by far the best! The staff is awesome and they truly care about the children.

This school has teachers who seem to really care about my child. I have appreciated the special help in reading that my child has received.

Posted May 1, 2003

The academic level at Zuni Hills is embarassing! My first grader brought home the same papers as my pre-schooler. Not only was this teacher unable to adapt to the different learning levels in her classroom, she was mean and tore up children's papers, not the kinds of person I want teaching my children--am looking for different alternatives.

I would like to meet the person who commented in March and commend them for stepping out and telling the truth about what really happens in our schools. It's too bad that things have changed so much that we can't even get a decent teacher anymore that truly cares about how your child does in school. We are in the age of 'pass the buck' and the staff at Zuni Hills (including administration) has learned how to do this very well.

Posted March 27, 2003

The staff at Zuni Hills has absolutely no clue about dealing with kids with any special needs and is unwilling to learn. Their goal is to transfer less than perfect kids to another school as soon as possible.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
