New 8th grade science teacher is good teacher but needs to watch the comments she makes to class. (1) sucks to be you (2) sucks to suck (3) get the hell out (when class is over) (4) kids show her work and when not right she tosses papers. Like our school and hate to see a teacher with comments like this - be a leader and set a positive example. Kids don't even think its funny.
I am also a mother of two boys with special health care needs. One child having ADHD. I have found the staff to be more than accommodating. They were committed to help him have a love of school and learning above all else. Now given I walked in the door with an outside evaluation from a Psychologist office. But once that was in hand, the IEP process went very quickly. And the teachers did everything they could to make the classroom a positive place and a wonderful learning environment. We came from another Peoria school, which is not so willing to support our special needs kids when they needed it the most. We think Zuni Hills is one of the best in Peoria. Keep up the good work!
Zuni Hills is an academically excelling school! The Zuni Hills Grizzlies are number one, our commitment and achievements can't be undone! The Zuni Hills Grizzlies are number one! You can try to beat us, but it can't be done! Go Grizzlies!
Zuni Hills is excellent! Our 13-year-old daughter [8th grader] transferred in from the Scottsdale School District and we find Zuni and the Peoria School District equally excelling and put forth matching effort in regards to their teaching staff, administration & students. We're very pleased to have transitioned from Hopi [K-5] and Ingleside [6-8] to Zuni [K-8] for 2013-14. The front office staff is always very accommodating, super knowledgeable and awesome at multi-tasking by efficiently juggling caring for/watching the kids, assisting parents with their questions/concerns, all while completing their daily tasks and treating everyone with respect. The teachers are also great by consistently teaching students grade appropriate subject matter in innovative ways and providing the quality care & attention our kids deserve! I highly recommend Zuni and give an overall A+ for the reasons aforementioned. *I wonder why ~100% of the poor reviews are riddled with typographical errors, grammar & punctuation misuse and an overall lack of concern for accurately conveying clear points to other parents & administration. It may be a good time to reflect on one's own actions vs. pointing the finger!
As a single mother of two boys with special health care and learning disability needs enrolled in Peoria School Districts elementary school, Zuni Hills Elementary and High School, Liberty I've battled for the last 9 years to ensure they have the support and instruction necessary to thrive in school, community and life functions. While I believe the Special Education Program at Zuni Hills has done the best they can with the resources they have, I do not believe the District is a collaborative, proactive partner in moving the District or the State of Arizona forward in providing more support and specialized instruction for children with AD/HD, learning disabilities and most especially students who are dyslexic. I devote much of my time, advocating, seeking external support and expert opinion to ensure both IEP and 504 accommodations are aligned, customized and enforced for both of my children. Just an example of my difficulties is Zuni Hills has gone through 4 Principals in 4 years and 2 Special Education Teachers in 2 years. Further, it took me 2 years and a dozen meetings to get Gavin assessed for dyslexia. Zuni Hills, in my opinion is not the best collaborator or supporter.
Obvious administrators don't follow district dress code but was up at school and see older student walking around with shirt that showed a large majority of her stomach. Why is nothing done by office, teachers, leadership to have her put something else on or be sent home. Leadership can't even follow district guidelines on the dress code. Really nice for the younger students to see girl walking around like that. If leadership reads these comments, try and get your standards a bit higher on appropriate dress. Also, parent being appalled on choir teacher - she made announcement last week to her students that she was quitting/not coming back next year because she can't take them talking. Really not professional for teacher to be telling students she blames them. Her comments to students makes sense why they act the way they do in class.
Appalled at the comments about the Winter concert as we thought it was wonderful. Although there have been discipline issues, our daughter has enjoyed the music and the class over all. There appears to be a lack of administrative follow-through where discipline is concerned.
Fairly new to Zuni Hills - The clothes some of the girls wear are so inappropriate how they are not sent home is a shock. Lack of respect from students to other students and staff. The Winter Concert was just horrible. Choir teacher was unorganized, this may have been her first concert. Our child told us it is at class chaos, now we see exactly what is happening. Two parents almost got into a fist fight over saving seats and then some students took the microphone at end of concert and starting screaming into them. The bad reputation the school has is fitting. Thrilled we are being rezone next year. Hopefully the good teachers will transfer over. Shape up Zuni and district you need to step in, clean out house and start over with administration that follows district guidelines.
Just saw post on choir concert and teacher. Glad another parent has their kid telling them class is crazy. Teacher has no control and says not nice things either. Office know but nothing is ever done to the teacher to act like a teacher. Moved here years ago for school district but we are stuck with worst one in westvalley area.
We have been extremely pleased with Zuni Hills. We transfered from another Peoria district school last year, and have found very positive and supportive staff. The kids love their teachers and classmates. We have not needed to contact the principal, but other parents have reassured us that there is strong student discipline & high expectations, and are very happy with the new principal and vice principal. We have not encountered any 'bad attitude. Our kids are happy, learning what they need to learn. The only concern is the lack of parent participation we see at fundraisers and school events, which was a problem at our previous school, as well.
I have been more than disappointed in the entire Peoria school district, including Zuni Hills. I came from Copper Creek (which I loved) but had to move to a new home. The administrators are horrible. They are not friendly, have no sense of urgency when it's needed, they just don't seem to care. I can say that my son's 4th grade teacher is very nice. She has an organized class and always keeps me informed. Perhaps she should find a new school to teach at since her great attitude doesn't seem to match the bad attitude of Zuni. And Peoria Traditonal is even worse...we started there!
zuni hills is awful I took my son out of there and he goes to parkridge is doing so better zuni hills office is rude its like drepressing when walking in there. so sad there also lacking academically my son had to catch up at parkridge cuz he was so far behind. so sad this school is in are neighborhood
both my girls 7 and 9 go to zuni. both are doing very well and love there teachers. i have been very pleased with the new principal but as of recently both my daughters have been having problems with the lunch lady Linda. linda yells at my girls and has cursed at my daughter for being to slow getting her money. i have talked to other parents and they have told me they have had problems with Linda or have heard of other kids having problems. one parent even told me not to bother reporting it because she is untouchable. may have to leave school, not happy.
My child had great primary teachers. His teachers used data to determine what he needed and taught that! They used small groups and could really identify where my child was! Now that he is has gone on to intermediate grades, he is assigned worksheet after worksheet. I miss the days when he was in k-1 at another district when he used smartboards and laptops continually! It seems Zuni, if not all of Peoria is behind the times.
Parent who attended Peoria Traditional, sorry you did not feel the school was challenging, parents are extremely happy and so are the students. Not weird about the uniforms (even though we are located inside Zuni, we are seperate different start/dismissal times, on other side of school), parents like the uniform policy so there are no inappropriate clothing worn like extremely short shorts, low cut shirts or other childrens making fun of students who may not wear certain types of name brand clothing.
My kids attended Peoria Traditional and it was not as challenging as they promised! I feel like its a little weird that they wear uniforms and Zuni kids do not.
I would like some information about the Traditional School Program offered at Zuni Hills. I do not know a lot about Traditional Schools and I know nothing about Zuni Hills. I would like to hear from parents about this.
Peoria Traditional School is inside the Zuni Hills building. It is seperate from Zuni Hill. Administation at Zuni did not inform us of the Traditional school when we were there. We saw kids at dismissal coming out in uniforms and had to inquire with other parents. It was what we were looking for - smaller classes and love the uniforms of polo shirts and docker type pants/shorts. Feel like we are in private school but with no tuition.
My children have attended Zuni Hills for 3 years, and overall, I have been very satisfied. All of our teachers have been great. They have challenged my boys and are willing to accommodate my gifted child. I have had to be assertive about some things, but they are willing to work with us, especially at the classroom level.
I have 2 children at Zuni Hills. My oldest child has been there for 7 years. We have had our ups and downs, but for the most part it has been satisfactory. I do wish that when a child struggled there would be better communication and more tutoring or after school programs. I do understand resources are limited for the teachers. We will just keep up the work and support and wish Zuni the best in the future.
