Communication in all aspects is terrible.
2 messages to my daughters counselor never returned and I had to go into the office and basically wait for her to see me. I had to leave messages with no return call to find out about meet times and bus schedule for after school sports. My daughter arrived at her swim meet to never be acknowledged. When I arrived and approached the coach he contradicted himself several times saying she wasn't released to swim (all documents turned in the first day of school so she could participate) in the same sentence he said most of the swimmers in the pool had not been released yet. Academics is focused on one type of learning style. Treats parents and students like a number (funding I'm sure). Lacks resources for struggling students and they show no interest in the well being of the student. The public school system definitely lets most children down and we wonder why kids drop out or ditch.
Terrible rating because they lack follow through, interest in the child's well being and individual attention is not genuine.
I'm even disgusted to say I let my two kids attend this school. I switched them to Shadow Ridge HS, it may be a longer drive but it's really worth it. This school lacks student safety, the campus isn't clean, and bullying isn't dealt with correctly.
This school has offered programs to our daughter that a better rated school could not offer. It has also challenged her in every honors class versus adding the same but more work. We have found a positive and collaborative student body, an encouraging and intelligent staff, and many opportunities for growth. The sports programs and parents have also been supportive. We are looking forward to sending another daughter her next year.
Our son graduated from Willow Canyon May 2013. He is currently attending Hofstra University in New York. He feels that he was sufficiently prepared for college. He played sports and developed a great relationship with his coaches.
WCHS is committed to students' learning and to their success in the real world. Teachers are tailoring their instruction to the students' needs and talents. It is amazing to experience the culture of learning and cooperation among teachers, students, and parents.
