I have a 4th and 8th grader at Rancho. My girls' teachers have been great. It is sad to see some of the great teachers leaving and I am unsure why. I sub at many of the Dysart schools and I consider Rancho one of the best.
I have a 3rd grader and a kinder both with medical diagnosis of ADHD and a request from the doctor for a 504/IEP plan. Upon enrollment I requested services for both the children. My 3rd grader has done well all year with minor problems so I have let it slip under the rug. My Kinder child however has struggled since the first day of school. By the second week I was already noticing a pattern of behavior concerns so I asked again about the 504 plan or an IEP. I provided proof of diagnosis, I did all but beg for somone to help him get through these issues and was denied time and time again. Finally he started to do better so I let it go. After returning from winter break, It started all over again this time with violent outbreak. He has been denied special behavior minutes because he has an IQ of 128! I am extremely disappointed in this school, the administration, the teachers, the Sp Ed department and all involved. It wasnt til I paid an advocate to fight for my child that now in mid April they have decided to "help" him. I have to say if you have a talented/gifted child, a child with special needs, or a child with academic concerns, LOOK ELSEWHERE. This is a BAD School.
My daughter has been going to this school since the 3rd grade, now in 6th grade and she LOVES it. The teachers are fabulous and the curriculum is outstanding. We joke about how my 5th grader is doing the same math homework that her stepfather is doing in college. :) So she loves to "mentor" him on his math. She raves about her teacher and how wonderful she is. She hasn't really had any problems with the students there. However my daughter is a very sociable person. Anytime anyone tries to bully or be mean she always helps out the other student and takes them under her wing. Overall, I really do love this school and have NO complaints whatsoever. Keep up the great job Rancho!!!!!!!!!
Great school. My grandson has been going here and is now in the 6th grade. Excellent teachers every year. Very caring and good eucators!
reports coming from my children who are new to the school and come from a private school background suggest that the faculty, have their hands full and are trying their best with what they have and could do with more parental support, all have their hearts in the right place. keep persevering
HUGE school. The older kids run over the little kids in the hallways. You'll find undercompensated faculty, deceiving administration, bad support for special need kids and no transparency. The cafeteria is outrageously out of control with a lack of supervision, kids getting hurt, and not enough time to eat because lines are so long. Curriculum is not fully implemented because administration is pushing for high test scores. Visit the school before sending your child there.
Great School, Great Teachers, The Principal is great. They have a very open door policy here and the teachers look out for our most precious metals, they are so caring. The education for children is great. When we first moved here people had told us this was not A good school and that most of the people in the neighborhood went to a nearby Charter School. These people could not be more wrong. Our kids are getting a great education. I hope those people are having fun in a lower performing Charter School. Go To Rancho! It's an amazing School.
Rancho Gabriela is always thinking of ways to keep kids in school. Also has parents very involved with child development.
my daughter had a teacher in 2nd grade that was not all that great. She didn't seem like she liked teaching at all and would always mark my daughter with low grades why I don't know but, my daughter did all the things she wanted and she still marked her low. Now she will be attending 3rd grade this year and I will be keeping a close eye on her and the teacher this year and if I see that she is getting the same grades and the teacher is not wanting to teach her the right way then I will pull her.
Anybody have any thoughts on one of the best 3rd grade teachers at Rancho Gabriela?
There are a mix of teachers at this school. My son had a great second grade treacher, but his third grade teacher has a lot to be desired. He interjects too many personal stories and my son would come home with some questionable quotes from his teacher. He should not be teaching or should be closely supervised and mentored at least.
I put my kids into the school this year and I and the kids love it very much, the teachers and staff have been very helpful and nice!
We moved here last year and I really can't say anything good about Rancho Gabriela at this time. My son was attending a Phoenix school with an IEP and was doing very well were he would not need the IEP any longer. However, when he finished this year with Rancho Gabriela according to his test scores he is below average. I don't understand how this could happen. When I asked the teacher if she communicates with my son's IEP instructor or even work together to see how my son is doing, she stated 'no I don't know what he does there'. This surprised me because when my son attended a Phoenix school the teacher, IEP instructor, and the principle were all involved. I don't think this is a good school for anyone with special needs, even if it's in one area, as in reading.
I have two boys attending Rancho Gabriela. Kindergarten and Second grade. They both are excelling wonderfully. I transferred my older son last year here from a Charter School nearby. There were a few issues at the Charter School that I feel didn't get addressed quick enough. Since I moved my son he has advance wonderfully. I had heard since I moved here that public schools are no good here. I think Rancho Gabriela is a great school. If you pay attention to what is going on with you child there should be no problems. By the way, my son in kindergarten is more advanced in reading and math than when my older son was in kinder at the charter school. The teachers at Rancho Gabriela are awsome!! Thank you Rancho Gabreila!!
I have been attending this school since it opened, and I must say that it's great! Both the seventh and eighth grade teachers really have the sort of hands-on approach to teaching that kids really need to survive in high school. There are plenty of things to do, like selling snow cones after school. I'll miss it next year, when I go to high school. :)
This school has poor discipline, most of the time they do not evwn care what the students do. Some teachers even sware and do not try to set a very good example at this school. Overall most of the teachers are very nice and do try to set a good examples, but not all of them which sad. I would be more pleased if all the teachers would try to set a good example. My mother is not all that pleased either. Curriculum wise it is not all that impressing, most woek is not hard and some classes it is very simple to get an 'A'. This school needs to get more challenging work.
Both our children have gone to Rancho Gabriela since it opened. We have been extremely impressed with K-2 teachers and the 4-6 have been very good. The class sizes are large but the teachers somehow still manage to focus on each child and are very willing to work with the student & parents. We have also been very pleased with their Special Ed. Dept. Our son has finally got the assistance he needs to succeed and the recommendations that were made to his IEP were excellent. The principal does try to know each child by name and is very friendly. Overall, we really like Rancho Gabriela.
WE are very happy with Rancho Gabriela, we moved to the area last year, just in time for our son to start Kindergarden there. Half way through the year he started coming home with homework and spelling words and learned the basics of reading and math...that is something I never did when I was in Kindergarden!
Rancho Gabriela Elementary is a very nice school. The principal is kind and intelligent. The teachers establish a fantastic relationship the students.Thes school Rancho Gabriela is a fantastic school.
I think Arizona's standards are too low. The work isn't challenging enough for both my son and daughter. Half the year my daughter ended up doing book reports alone in class so the other students could catch up. The class sizes are too large. Special education is needed. I am not pleased at all. I'm looking into charter schools and even another state.
