This school is extremely disorganized. We get fliers sent home for events that either are happening that same night or have already happened. They are giving my daughter homework on topics that have not (and some that will not) be taught in the classroom. When I spoke with the assistant principal about this her response was I should be teaching it to my daughter at home. The woman that sits at the front desk is ALWAYS grumpy and I have had to stop her from yelling at my daughter several times. One day I dropped my daughter off at the front door and waited for her to enter the building. As I drove around the parking lot I noticed she was coming back out of the building. Turns out they weren't happy with her being dropped off at the front door and required my 6 year old to leave the school campus and walk down the street and around the building to a different "drop off location". Unacceptable!! Rules are put in place to benefit the teachers while putting parents and students at a great disadvantage. Parent involvement is non-existent and for the most part not even allowed. I could go on and on about the issues I have with this school. Do NOT take your child here.

The teachers, counselors, princi[als, everyone is exceptional here. My son has some behavioral issues and has previously been kicked out of numerous schools. this was the only place that took the time to actually help him and try to understand him and create a plan for him so he would be successful. They check up on him throughout the day and keep me up to speed if he is having any issues. i canno tthank them enough for all they have done to help my son feel like this is HIS school and not just a temporary one till they get tired of him and kick him out. He loves his teachers and counselors. Again this is an amazing school and couldnt ask for more support from them. :) Thank you again.

Angular is a wonderful school with a caring Principle and teachers. My kindergarten was reading chapter books by Christmas break, and the entire class is above reading grade level. It also is a beautiful new school built last summer. They have a wonderful school spirit and all the kids are so full of school pride. On Fridays they all gather in the gym to do Fitness Friday where they dance for 15 minutes. I cannot say enough nice things about my experience and the quality of education my child is receiving. She loves going to school, and all her friends.

Aguilar is a greta place for children and their families. They are working hard to ensure that all students receive an excellent education. Many changes have taken place and are providing opportunities for increases in student learning. My child is excited to go to school each day and I am happy with the support he has received.

I send my children to this school because Phoenix does not offer what Aguilar offers. I'm pleased to say that my son and daughter look forward to school everyday more so than in years past. This year, they are involved in student council, the school newspaper, and Ms. Sheerer's running club. My children have taken on the healthy lifestyle the school is promoting and have attended all the races. Their confidence has increased because of the great, sincere, and hardworking teachers and staff. I have recommended this school to parents I know and will continue to because of the support and enrichment given to my children.

Aguilar has some serious leadership issues. I think there is a great deal of internal strife and discord that is kept hush hush. Stay away until new leadership is put in place for this once great school.

Aguilar is an amazing school with teachers and staff that want to make a difference in there kids. With extra funds there would be no limit on what resources they would provide for the children .

I would not recommend this school! The teachers are too fresh from college and inexperienced. The staff is unprofessional and school image 'ghetto.' Aguilar is in dire need of improvement inside and out.

I have to disagree with most of these reviews. I am currently in the process of moving my son from Aguilar to Rover. I feel no support from the teachers counselor or principal this year. My daughter attended Aguilar for k-5 and there were no issues, but in the past 12 months the school has definitely lowered their level of concern for students. Over the summer many of the best teachers left this school which shows that they as well must have been unimpressed with the direction the school was heading. I would not at this time recommend sending a child to Aguilar.

This school has a motivated PTA interested in our students success in academics and extracurricular activities too. You are welcome to join this great group at any time and your children will love you for it. My two girls love and feel safe in their classrooms and we all value the after school program.

Aguilar school is special in so many ways. It has grants (GPIC and Reading First) that have allowed for more people to service students. My child was provided weekly life skill lessons from counselor Barb Grady. Our daughter benefited from those lessons and shared what she learned with us. We are frequently the recipients of well crafted 'I feel' messages. Aguilar focuses both on academic achievement and the delevopment of character. The two kinds of learning are intimately connected. Aguilar knows that promoting students' social and emotional skills plays a critical role in improving academic performance.

Aguilar is a wonderful school with a very strong and friendly principal and excellent staff. We attend Aguilar on open enrollment and the drive is still worth it after 7 years (2 children). Our youngest will start next year. The school is in a nice setting, pretty environment, quiet neighborhood, excellent maintenance. We do believe in helping choose the teachers we want for our kids and in most cases, it is a hard choice every year because of so many wonderful teachers at this school. The office staff is very available to any concerns and the resources are tremendous. Tempe has a big advantage over Kyrene, in that kids can start band and orchestra in 4th grade rather than 6th. We hope that the staff turnover continues to stay low and that our principal will not have to transfer elsewhere to help improve another location.

Wonderful school environment, teachers that care. The principal is always there to talk and discuss anythin. Every one of the staff has been helpful and knowledgable. Always willing to go the extra mile to help out. We are out of the zone and are under their open enrollment policy, the procedure has been smooth and the location is actually closer to use than our home school. We moved from the charter system and were skeptical of the public school system. However our fears were put to rest and we are very comfortable with the staff. Our children are happy and smarter than ever. We appreciate everything that Aguilar has to offer.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. GreatSchools' profiles currently show AIMS mathematics, reading and writing results. 2013 AIMS grade 10 results represent on-track 10th graders for the 2013 test year. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
