On a positive note, the music programs available are great- choir, orchestra and band. It give students more to look forward to than socializing. However, it appears that Evans does very little to engage students with above average intelligence. A three hour pull-out 'PACE' program gives my child very little time being challenged and a false impression of school, itself, being easy. Although some of the teachers genuinely care about the students, it appears that more time is spent preparing for AIMs and Terra Nova testing than actual learning. It saddens me that for another year Evans is again in need of 'corrective action' to improve it's scores. Children are our future- although the school does play a part- the lack of parental involvement is also disappointing. There appears to be little communication unless parent initiated. Something needs to done to intigrate a well-rounded education.

I have had negative experiences with some of the teachers. They are extremely rude and condescending to parents. If my daughter didn't have so many friends there and if she didn't want to stay there I would immediately move her to another school.

My son attended this school from K- until now. He is a 3rd grader and I recently made a change to have him removed. I was very unhappy with the way parents aren't notified when things are going wrong with their children. I was also disappointed in the way the school contacts parents if their child is not in school. Academic wise, I think it could be a lot better by concentrating on being more structured.

Evans has a big emphasis on reading, however reading is not integrated well with other subjects. In my opinion, other subjects, such as math, are being neglected because of reading. Extra curricular activities are good. Fourth and fifth graders can choose from choir, orchestra and band.

From observing two children I know over the past two years, I can honestly say that they have received a solid early school experience. The first grader reads well, and the preschooler has learned to work withing the limits set by the teacher, who worked closely with the parents.

From what I experienced here during the first year at Evans was primarily positive. My son started Kindergarden here. Teacher involvement seems to be genuineand high.Howerver, the problem seems to be the lack of parent involvement related to activities, fund raising ,and homework. I am a parent,as I said before so I have seen this first hand. I got involved in the PTSA and am sad to say that the parent turn out was more than extremely low. When there are only board memebers ( officers) and a child care provider (who only helps out for the meeting) there seems to be a tremendous problem. Lets get with it people these are decisions in our kids education for the very near future.Every little bit of encouragement goes a long way to the positive side of the learning process. Thanks for reading

Many of the teachers are excellent but the school lacks strong leadership and there was very little parent involvement. When I made positive comments to the principal regarding my child's teacher, I received no response and felt as if my opinion didn't matter.
