this school lacks discipline, and has no real standard for teaching. I found it to be boring as a student here, which i later found was just due to the lack of challenge and low standard of education. This school is basic, nothing extraordinary or great about it. If you have to send your child here, I would see that they get into any advance placement classes, just to be challenged! I was a new student here when I attended 8th grade, and coming from another state, I already knew more than what was being taught here. It was already overrun by 'junior' gang members, and very clique-y girls. There is no bus transportation, you have to take the city bus, walk, or get a ride. No after school activities either, and it's very easy to get out of class, as i found out many times over.
Academically, they do focus on teaching what the student already should know. I think there is too much emphasis on passing AIMS tests (sorry, but this has caused more education issues than not having them) and not enough on learning for their grade.
I think this school os like all other schools in Tucson. It lacks a strong education. I feel the children are not learning enough. They spend the first 3-4 weeks reviewing the material they learned the previous year. Then they continue to review the work for the remainder of the year. Ny son and daughter hwo are in the 6th and 7th grade are still doing work they did in the 4th and 5th grade. It is very disappointing. I don't feel they are getting an education that will help them later in their high school and college years. I really like the staff, though. Every one there is kind and understanding. Other than that, the school was ranked 40 out of 52 in 2002. Not a very good track record. The no child gets left behind is holding the others that can excell back.
This school seems to be a pretty generic junior high. I have not had any real problems with teachers or parents. I believe young kids today are using words and phrases they should not be, but maybe i am just old fashion. I believe that they could be firmer in thier punishments, but again they seem to be your run of the mill junior high.
Carson Middle School has a great philosophy and places high standards on the quality of teaching that is provided. I believe the administration gives great value to the future of the school. I have two children attending the school and think they are in capable hands.
