the kids seem to watch them selfs at morning recess. also at p.e. the p.e. teacher sits on his phone and text message the whole time..
I love this school! The teachers are very caring and strive to do the best that they can despite the State Budget. I feel it is a caring and safe enviornment for students and teachers. I get the sense that it is a small community of individuals that really go out of their way to create a dedicate enviornment for learning. If you look at this school versus others in Tucson, it is far superior in staffing and resources considering the current economy. Parents should do their very best to be involved, support the teachers, and help their own children to be excellent people and students. Everyone needs to pitch in.
Class sizes are currently only an issue for the 6th grade level, but they still fall within the district guidelines, and additional aide time has been added to support the teachers. I really like that the 6th grade teachers have 'rotations' with teachers each taking 2-3 subjects and rotating groups of students throughout the day. This is a nice way to prepare students for jr high when they'll have to transition each hour between classes. Class sizes this year overall for K-5 are actually the lowest in several years and the kids are getting lots of attention and great results on the district assessments ready for AIMS in April. That is great considering that they have a 20% mobility rate of students moving in and out of the school. I think that parent involvement is the area that needs the most improvement -- parents are just too busy.
Homer Davis has pretty good teachers but I believe that the class sizes are too big and the kids don't get any one on one help or one on one attention. My child has special needs and none of the teachers were able to meet his needs, hes been going there for 6 yrs now.
I was really upset with the school due to that they didn't give my daughter the therapy that she needed. She was suppose to receive speech and language and I never received any feedback on how she was doing. I was really disappointed witht he school system down in Tuscon.
