I did my student teaching at this school in the fall of 2004. My impression is that this school is a happy place, where students feel safe and comfortable. There was a lot of joy and a strong sense of community. Teachers valued the development of students' cooperation and community-building skills. However, classroom managment was fairly lax and the students were not pushed academically. I sometimes felt frustrated by the time they spent playing and talking in the classroom, because the kids were mostly ESL students who were already at an academic disadvantage. It seemed like with a little more structure, the kids could have learned a lot more. Parents were welcome in the school and often visited the classrooms. Parent-teacher relationships seemed strong and positive. There was a great after-school music program.
