My son has gone to this school for two years (1st and 2nd grades). I've been very happy with the teachers and administration. They show a strong commitment to the needs of the students, and making the surroundings fun and safe for the kids. Also, this year they qualified as a "College Bound" school. They are the first and only elementary school in TUSD to achieve this.

As I read through some of the previous reviews I wonder if our children have been attending the same school... This is the second year that my children have been at Lyons Elem. Last year I had one child in 5th grade, one in 3rd, and a kindergardener... All of their teachers (this year and last) were excellent, the office staff is great and very personable, the principal, Ms. Govern is easy to talk to, confident in her mannerisms with students and parents. I have been overwhelmingly satisfied with the attention and caring relationship the teachers and staff have developed with my children. Overall this is a fantastic school...

I and several other parents have taken our children out of Lyon's because of many unsatifactory conditions there. Many have to do with the administration.

My son has been to a couple of elementary schools in Tucson and the problem is TUSD - all of the schools in the district seem to have the same problems.

The teachers in the Kinder and first grades as well as the OMA program are fantastic. However, I am extremely disappointed about the safety and monitoring of break times at Lyons elementary school. Something needs to be done to have a better discipline and communication system as well as monitor to child ratio issues reviewed and changed from its current plan.

I removed my children from a charter school about 3 weeks into the school year. Lyons is our local school and my wife and I went to register the kids and speak with the principal. My son has some medical issues the we wished to discuss. The principal made herself available immediatly, along with the school counsler and school psycologist to discuss these problems and was very open to my wife and I. I was extremly impressed with the school after that meeting and knew they were more than willing to help my kids learn to the best of their abilities. Over all I am very impressed with the school and the envirnment is much more condusive to learning than the school where they came from.. A+ for the school and activities.

Very disappointed with this school. Monitors fail to monitor, faculty fails to dress professionally, and extreme lack of communication all around. People wonder why kids don't respect their elders any more. Take a look around this school and you'll know why.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
