Tolson elementary school is a very nice school. My son has gone to this school for a year and a half. They have many nice teachers and a lot of events for the families of the students to be a part of. The school encourages parents to come in and volunteer.

Tolson is a fairly small school for TUSD. Staff is friendly. School is clean. Student teacher ratio for my sons first grade class is 27 to 1. I feel that is too high for any grade. There is not much money for the children to do art projects or field trips. I think Tolson does well with what it has to work with.

Tolson Elementary is one of those small feel good type schools from the old days of education. It has a quaint family feel to it and the teachers and administrators take the exta effort to really know the parents and families and teach the kids to their utmost potential. This is a serious school for learning. The kids are well behaved and learn here which is very refreshing. Respect and friendship is a high priority and you see it every day. I am very proud to have my son attend this fine school and highly recommend it to all families who value a solid education.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
