Andy Heineman, the principal, is absolutely amazing. He is very dedicated and cares about the Harelson community. He sets the tone for the teacher's expectations of the students. We have been very pleased with our 2 years at Harelson. I would like to see a school garden and foreign language offered.

We currently open enroll our son at Harelson and plan to enroll our daughter in the Fall due to the wonderful experience we have at Harelson! Harelson teachers and principal excel at knowing each child as individuals and not just a 'body of students'. From the teachers learning each child's strengths and weaknesses in the classroom, to the principal knowing each and every student's name, help each child feel special! The level of parent involvement and charm of the school campus make this school a true community for the children and their families! We are proud to attend Harelson!

It is a safe, clean school with caring & nurturing faculty and staff. The principal, Andy Heineman is amazing--he is always present at all events and moving throughout classrooms, even helping the parent pick-up line move smoothly in the afternoons. All 3 of my children have attended here and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Great things start at the top, and Prinicpal Heinemann makes great things happen at Harelson (of course, with the utmost support and help of an excellent staff and great PTO)! Every single teacher and faculty member that I have met in the past four years has been extremely committed and passionately involved in creating not just great students, but fine young individuals. The academic standard is excellent, but not at the expense of the arts. Harelson is one of the few schools that still maintains an art program, music, athletics, and an abundance of extra-curricular programs such as chess and track. We are an open enrolled family. For approximately three of our four years at Harelson, I drove my sons from our home in Sahuarita to Harelson (nearly an hour drive each way) and it was well worth it! The high standards and quality of education at Harelson gave us cause to rent out our home in Sahuarita and move closer to the school. If you have a chance to get your child into Harelson during open enrollment, don't hesitate! It is excellent school with outstanding people!

Harelson is the best elementary school anywhere. The teachers are amazing giving 200% day in and day out. The Kindergarten and First Grade programs are amazing and give our kids the base they need for further success. The extra curricular offerings are awesome with chess club, track, and science club being a few of the electives. Every child gets to perform on stage at least once a year with the end result being very poised, confident sixth graders. The Reading Room is a very unique but effective help with our struggling readers. Everyone, from the administration to the teachers to the monitors to the cafeteria staff truly love the kids at Harelson. My child feels uplifted and special on a daily basis. It is truly 'a village' that surrounds each and every student. Harelson is the best!

Harelson is an amazing community of great/caring teachers, active/involved adminstrators, and engaged/caring parents. Harelson has all the ingredients of a top notch school (public or private). With a notable percent of open enrollment, many families choose Harelson as though it were a private school. We are one of those families and are very pleased with our choice.

The principal is a great ambassador for this school . His accessability to both parents and students is a major factor in the 'family' feel of this campus. I appreciate the benefits of the liberal open enrollment philosophy even though we live within the boundary. The students are made aware of the high expectation of not just academic excellence but good citizenship as well. The teachers have maintained their professionalism and dedication to excellence despite all of the budget turmoil .

I open-enrolled my children at Harelson, because of its reputation for excellence. I have never been disappointed. The teachers at Harelson are incredibly committed to giving each and every student a quality education. They are masters of differentiation, making sure that each student is getting what they need at their level. These teachers work tirelessly before and after school to be their very best when their students are in class. They are enthusiastic and strive to make learning fun! They go above and beyond to stay in communication with parents, and are available for questions and concerns. The administrative staff is so welcoming to parents and they are an integral part of why the school runs so smoothly. Last but by no means least; Mr. Heinemann does a phenomenal job as Principal. He knows all the students by name, as well as their parents. His leadership is driven by his desire for excellence and his heart. He truly cares about the Harelson Community as a whole; the students, parents and teachers. His goal to ensure that every child gets a quality education is present in everything he does. When a school is lead by that example, it s no wonder Harelson is an Excelling School for the 7th year in a row! You would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated group of educators, and in the current environment in Arizona in regards to education, seeing these teachers and administrators give 150% every day is inspiring!

Harelson is dedicated to the students as individuals not as a number or a seat in the classroom. They are a excelling school that teaches so that every child can learn at a higher rate. Harelson is no average public school it is the best. They offer fine arts and sports options for kids and they look for alternative ways for our students to learn. The teachers are truly the best and the administration is excellent also they are involved with the kids and interact with like no other school I have seen. Harelson is an excelling school that has a long tradition of strong academics (starting with the solid foundation provided by our kindergarten program thru our rigorous sixth grade program) and a wonderful arts program (from our extremely talend Art Teacher, Liz Caris, who finds and nurtures that artistic gene in every child to our musical program that get every child on stage at least one a year). Harelson teachers are passionate about education. Harelson teachers tailor their academic programs to meet the needs of each child and then nurture each to excell. Mr. Heinemann is a visible and hands on principal who within the first few weeks of school has learned the name of every one of the 500+ students and is well on his way to lerning the names of their parents. Harelson is a gem. We love Harelson and greately appreciate the dedication of its teachers and staff.

I've never seen, and can hardly imagine, a more dynamic learning environment for young people than that created at Harelson Elementary School by its outstanding principal, Andy Heinemann, his capable, attentive, responsive and professional staff, and by a teaching corps that defines excellence at every level in the classroom. Each day, it seems, these teachers marshal the resources of knowledge, experience, creativity, discipline, humor and good cheer to engender precisely the exceptional learning environment that has come to define Harelson. As parents, we are profoundly grateful that our children are able to attend Harelson and we have been gratified over the years by the amazing resourcefulness of this organization to optimize every opportunity - despite trying economic times - on behalf of the students and their teachers. At each grade level, the curriculum offers variety, consistency, intellectual and academic challenges; it rewards legitimate achievement, encourages effort and it nurtures our children's innate thirst for growth and knowledge. Families could pay a great deal more for elementary education by opting for private schools but they would be hard-pressed to find any school - public or private - that exceeds the standards set by Harelson. Year after year, Harelson continues to earn its ranking as an 'Excelling School,' and it is deserving of every benefit and all the additional support it can get.

Harelson is the best elementary school our family has had experience with. The principal, Andy Heinemann, is very attentive. He gets to know his students and parents. I see him every time I'm at the school whether it's during school, at a band or music performance or any other function. It's so refreshing. We have had nothing but the best experiences with teachers. They clearly love their jobs at this school. I've seen great individualized instruction given to my kids no matter the number of students in the class. The school has so many opportunities for their students that other area schools don't have. Some I can think of are the 4th grade pit fire and going back in time for school, 5th grade camp, and 6th grade San Diego trip and Medieval Tea. I'm proud to say my children attend Harelson and will be sad to see the day that I no longer have a child there.

We moved here in 2008 after a horrible kindergarten experience in Texas. My daughter hated going to school there. We never saw the principal and the teachers seemed disconnected. When we moved I decided to look for a school where people liked the principal and out of all the schools we chose Harelson. It s been the best experience. The teachers here are incredible and it s not just a school it s a community. My daughter is in 2nd grade but still quotes her 1st grade teacher. Her second grade teacher has instilled a love of reading in her that she didn t have prior to school starting. I am so excited for 3rd grade and I have another child entering kindergarten next year too. Harelson is a fabulous school! My daughter started Kindergarten this year,(all day) and she loves it. She gets to enjoy music, art, computer lab, phys ed, and many other things. She is starting to write in journals, as well as, enjoy doing more math and equations. She is also taking an after school spanish class once a week. All in all, I cannot say enough about the teachers, and the principal, who by the way is a 'hands on' man. When I mean 'hands on' a man who knows much about what is going on and is visible. You see him at the drop off at school, and the parent pick up car line after school. Fabulous school, if you have the option of open-enrolling your child at Harelson, I would say do so. This school is fantastic. My children have all attended this school and have done extremely well. The teachers are exceptional.

We have been very pleased with Harelson. There seems to be a constant energy and search for improvement by the principle, staff and parents. Parents are visibly involved in most aspects of the school. In a ecomony of cut-backs, Harelson still offers a diverse selection of activities and educational trips for the children.
