It seems odd to me that most of these entries read like they are written by staff members. In fact, the most recent entry prior to this one is identified as written by a teacher, and yet the grammar is appalling. I'm certain I don't want my students to attend a school where even the teachers seem to be lacking in literacy skills.
we are actually a pre-k through 9th grade charter school now. we offer a free pre-k program to prepare students for kindergarten, free breakfast before school, and a free after-school program with snacks until 5:30 PM. we really care about our students and want to offer them all the resources they need to succeed. because we provide so many free services at our own expense, $20,000 would really help us in our endeavors to continue providing important resources for parents and students. thank you for your consideration!
I went to SCS in 7th & 8th grade. Before that I lived in Mexico. When 7th grade was over I noticed that my english language progressed a lot! In 8th grade I was able to write anything in english & translate long spanish poems into english & also perform them!. SCS has such great teachers, counselor, & just all the staff members are awesome. Southside gave me a lot of opportunities & my days there were never boring; it has many, many clubs where everyone can participate & enjoy them. I am sure that no kid would regret attending Southside Community School.
SCS offers many free programs for parents such as after-school care and mariachi lessons. The school is in the process of opening up a free preschool. We are also working to develop a parent-teacher association.
This is a great school. There are few schools that enhance student achievement in such a profound way. Teachers are sincerely interested in students.
My kids loved the middle school summer program. They went on three trips, to a cave, a water recycle place and bowling. They all went to summer school even though it was not required because they love science. The science teacher here is a little strange, but they like him the best and he has really turned them on to science! The math teacher for summer school was great. There regular math teacher not so much.
My boy in ninthe grade wishes he could go back to this school. My other boy is in 5th grade, he has one of the best teachers in Tucson and is looking forward to middle school at southside.
This School is da Bomb! #1 You should of had added more grades from K-12. I love southside community school and K3v!n too!
Overall i think this school is great. Two of my children go there and enjoy it. The teachers are very talented and have good teaching degrees. The after-school activities are great and the tutoring is helpful for those who need it. The teachers, principal and Superintendant are very involved in everything and everyone knows everyone. Not a lot of parents are involved but I am, some use the after-school programs as daycare which I don't my children want to learn new things which I like.
While no shcool is perfect, parents and kids are very happy at the school, and there is a waiting list in four of the elementary grades grades. The staff is very committed to providing a safe and excellent learnign environment.
Since starting at this school last year my kids love school, a first! They especially love the Science and new Art teacher. They have a great after school program
There are immense challenges facing the staff and community of this particular school. The high #s of English language learners attending this school and the overall socio economic factors in the overall mix, present large barriers to the success of the students in the hurdles they face on a daily basis. This school was founded to provide much needed attention to an area of Tucson where many of the kids were summarily rejected by other schools due to ethnicity, and cultural differences. Consider the underlying factors that a quick browse of this website does not reveal! Many in our community do not have computers. I ask the other 3oo parents to make comments on this website- The majority of comments will be very positive!
There is no parental involvement at this school. Seems more like a free babysitting location than a real school.
This school is not a place to send your student is you want the best education for them. If you want high moral standards, a clean friendly environment with teachers and staff who care.
I am a mddle school student and this is a great learning environment. The bully level is low and the teachers do the best to teach us. I am happy to be here.
Parents, don't send you kids here if you truly want a safe and caring learning environment. This is a school full of bullys.
I have 2 children at Southside Community School. They are receiving a good background for middle school and high school. They just started a tutoring program at the school that gives so many of the students the individual attention that they need. The staff truly cares about the students, and The school has a lot of extra things for the kids. They have a great computer program, art program, they have guitar classes, extra curricular sports, well balanced disciplinary practices, and my kids are doing very well there. My wife and I are very pleased with the clean and well kept facilities, and the individual attention our kids receive. Keep up the good work Southside!
Southside community school has a great Elementary Teaching staff who truly care about the students at the school. The rest of the school environment leave much to be desired.
