The schools in the Wickenburg District are A and B schools-- top of the state!

Posted September 20, 2008

My daughter is only in kindergarten, but I'm sure she'll do as well in future grades as she is doing now. A caring staff and wonderful surroundings.

I would like to see more course being offered. We come from a school providing more technology and languages as well as social studies and sciences. The teachers are wonderful, but the school grounds need an improvement.

Hassayampa excels in teaching reading. Teachers divide students at each grade level into reading groups and use pre-testing and ongoing skill-checking to make sure each K-3 child learns the skills they need to know with frequent interventions to keep students on track. Unfortunately, most of the teachers who received specialized training in this area have left the district to take higher-paying jobs elsewhere. the The PTA has been a silent presence for some 35 years, holding traditional annual fundraisers (i.e. annual book fair, calendar sale, and picture sale) that benefit both the elementary and junior high. Parents will find teachers accessible and easy to talk with, and will find opportunity within the PTA. Hassayampa is troubled by the small school district's financial problems and lacks some basic needed items, but staff and parents are resourceful. I would give the school a B+ for effort.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Arizona used the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) to test students in reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and 10, writing in grades 5, 6, 7, and 10, and in science in grades 4, 8 and 10. AIMS is a standards-based test, which means that it measures how well students have mastered Arizona learning standards. Students must pass the grade 10 AIMS in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to meet or exceed state standards on the test.
