All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My children have been attending Amerischools Academy South in Yuma for 3 years now, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to send them to this charter school. My daughter attended Kindergarten at a public school before she came here and unlike the public school, Amerischools caps the classes at 24 students. The principal, Mrs. Fox, is amazing. She strikes the perfect balance between strict and loving, and she takes the time to know each of the children in her care, as well as their parents. This attitude is passed down to her teachers, who also take the time to learn the name of all the students in the school while still focusing attention on those children in their care. The teachers take the time to challenge all of the students. The school offers physical education, music, art, computers, and other classes that were cut out of the public school. There are also clubs offered after school, at no charge, to help students grow and explore- dance, Spanish, and board games are just a few of the options. I wish the school was more than K-6 so I could leave my children in this perfect learning environment even longer. If you are looking for a school in Yuma, look no further.

My daughter has gone to school here since kindergarten. She is now finishing up the 6th grade at Amerischools North. I have always appreciated the small class sizes and attention from all her teachers. The Principal is firm, but would bend over backwards to help a student or parent, in or out of school. There isn't a bus system, but they have great before and after school care at an affordable rate. The teachers really care about their sudents and their education. I just wish it was through 8th grade! We will miss this small school that has become like our extended family.

This is my second year working for AmeriSchools-South. I believe it is a wonderful school. It has a great learn environment! All of my co-workers are always will to help with out being asked. Another great thing about our schools is all the wonderful parents. I really like that all of the parents are very involved and willing to go the extra mile to help their child(ren).

I have taught at AmeriSchools for two years, and I am blessed working here. I see the teachers giving their attention to each student for his/her personal needs (not just the core education) but pushing them personally ahead in areas than just their strengths even if it means extra work for the teacher! The teachers understand that kids learn differently, and at different paces, and accommodate learning needs.

Everyday that I work here I feel I am given the greatest opportunity to change a child's life through teaching, learning and growing with the children. My days are filled with positive people starting with our principle all the way down to the youngest member of our student body. I enjoy being here and being a part of something greater than myself.

This is my second year working here and it only gets better with time. Our class size is smaller than at other schools to allow for much more one-on-one interaction with students. Teachers are given more free range in lessons to modify to the needs of each and every student. We as faculty continue to learn and grow with the students in ensure the student is gaining the highest level of education for each grade level.

I love teaching in a school where we can teach to fit the needs of every child in our classroom and not just follow a set of prearranged lessons. My students get hands on activities to help them learn. The staff goes out of it way to assist every student and other staff members. We are truly a family here. Best teaching experience I have ever had. I love working here.

My school AmeriSchools is a very good school. All the teachers are super nice, they are respectful and nice. The principal is a good and strict but really sweet she is not mean to anyone. She is always fair and super organized. This school is a small, yet a great school!! We have a rule that is called "one finger touch," I love that rule, at other schools they don't have a rule like that

My son is in his first year at Amerischools Academy and so far we love the education he is receiving here. The teachers and principal make school fun and challenging. The only drawback is the school facility- it is small and a bit crowded. I wish the school would move to a better building and add a 7th and 8th grade, so we don't have to find a middle school in a few years.

I have been employed at AmeriSchools for over 6 years. AmeriSchools is truly different than any other school in Yuma County. The staff members are compassionate, hard working and strive to provide students with an extraordinary education. They focus not only on their students academic needs, but also on their behavioral and social development. The parents & families are supportive of school events and understand that continual communication with their child's teacher is essential. I am blessed to have been given the privilege to begin at AmeriSchools many years ago, and I hope to continue being part of the AmeriSchools family for many years to come. If you haven't visited, I strongly encourage you to stop in and take a tour.

We love Amerischools Academy South! My son has gone to this school since kindergarden and is now in 3rd grade. The teachers are wonderful and the principal is awesome. The only thing I see that needs improvement is getting the school zoned for speed zones...which apparently is being worked on. thank you

I love Amerischool Academy. I teachers and principal are great. My daughter really likes going there. She has been at this school since kinder and is now a 6th grader. She has exceeded all aims, and is ahead in math and reading. Couldn't ask for a better place for my daughter to go to school. I tell everyone about Amerischool and hope they bring their kids there as well.

My son went to 3rd grade here and the teachers and staff are very wonderful. If you have any questions or issue they will take the time to help you find the answers you need. Also if your child might be a bit ahead in some areas they can give him or her some extra work to help keep pushing them ahead. The class sizes are nice and the over all size of the school helps everyone be able to get any and all help they would need even if they get it from a different teach or staff member.

Our daughter has attended Amerischools for the past two years and we love it! This is a small school and that was exactly what I was looking for. Mrs. Fox was my daughter's kindergarten teacher and this year she is the principal. She and the rest of the staff are fabulous. They all know my daughter's name and even my preschool age child's name. They know my husband and I by name and are aware of our different schedules so they know who to call first when she has been ill or needed to be picked up. I'm sad to say that we have to move this summer and we wish we could take them with us :) They have gave our daughter a great basis for her education and I thank them profusely for that.

My Children have went here for 2 years and overall we really like the school. My biggest complaints would be that th ey are adding too many new classes when there isn't room for any more kids. Its a very small school. Trying to pick up your kids is a train wreck!.It's just too many people in a small space. The staff is very friendly, and I love the fact that I walk in and anyone that sees me knows exactly who my kids are. Mrs. Fox has stepped in and done a wonderful job! She is very involved with what's going on in her school.

While Amerischools South Campus does lack in size and for extra curricular activities, the leadership has kept me sending my kids there. Mrs. Fox is a positive, outgoing principal and relates to the children and parents well. She listens to the needs of parents and genuinely cares about the kids getting a high quality education. I have found the school to be a positive place for my kids and most of the teachers are great. All issues and concerns I have had are addressed quickly and I feel that my concerns have been understood and taken seriously. No school is perfect but the smaller class sizes and great leadership at Amerischools by far out ranks other options in Yuma County.

At the beginning of February we ended our Annual parent survey. Our over all satisfaction rate was 98% with 91% Very to Extremely satisfied. A little more than half of our families responded to 13 questions of which 8 dealt with satisfaction in various areas, such as communication and recommending our school to relatives and friends. Of our 8 satisfaction questions our lowest overall satisfaction percentage was 97%. At AmeriSchools we will always strive to meet the needs of our students and families. Our teachers and staff are very hard working and they are here because this is where they want to work. Many have left other teaching positions to come here and some have taken significant pay cuts to work here. This speaks volumes to their dedication, caring, and hard work. Our academics have been some of the highest in Yuma County, again because of the exception staff we have.

Mr. Wachunas is a wonderful Principal who is optimistic and hardworking! He is always willing to go the extra mile for his students, staff, and families. Great things continue to happen at this school. He values education and clearly understands the critical roles school, family, community, and teachers play in the success of his student's. AmeriSchools Academy administration, teachers, and staff believe every child has value, they nurture the talents and dreams of their student's, make them feel successful, and help advocate for their needs. It s a place where the staff is dedicated, caring, and supportive and where teachers make learning fun which sets the pace for student s love of learning.

I use to think that this school was superior in Yuma. After having my child attend for the past several years I have learned that Mr. W, the principal now at the North Campus is very controlling. He yells at the students and the teachers as though he is still in the Marine Corps. This is an elementary school, not the military! He has proven to me by not only my personal experiences but also by others who use to work for him that his "leadership" is NOT acceptable to be an elementary principal. Teachers, students or parents do not get to speak their opinions without repercussion. If you are looking at sending your child to Amerischools then look into the South Campus or a different school!

As this year comes to an end I am so grateful for all the hard work and dedication that the teachers at Amerischools invest in our children. You can truly see the fruits of their hardwork in our children . I have really had a great experinece at Amerischools with all the staff I think it is great that the Principal puts himself out there and is involved with the children. My children come home happy and excited about what they have learned and are eager to go to school the next day. I think it is awesome that they incorporate ant- bullying lessons throughout the year which is great as they have a zero tolerance for bullying, and we must not forget that they are also exceptional when it comes to academics! Thank you Amerischools!!

Our family loves Amerischools Academy! The principal and teachers provide a warm loving atmosphere where the children can feel safe yet are still held accountable for their actions teaching them to be responsible young members of the community. The academics are outstanding as proven by their "above performing" status. We have experienced the public school system and feel so lucky to be a part of the Amerischools family!

Started at the Yuma Amerischool in 2002, because of the fair and balanced environment, where the my children's minds were allowed to grow. They are encouraged to laugh, they are hugged when crying, and taught how to care for the feelings of others by not bullying fellow classmates. With all of this, Learning remains the top priority, as my children come home excited about doing their homework. With GREAT teachers, GREAT front desk administration, the Principal can keep the school united on the same academic page... ABOVE PERFORMING! Keep up the Great Work! Watching my children smile, put me at ease!

My daughter attended the 1st grade here and it was absolutely the best school! We also have children from the ages of 4-18 yrs old so we've had the experience of going thru many school systems with being Military. The Principal is AWESOME & doing his job! HE'S THERE TO KEEP THINGS RUNNING SMOOTH AND KEEPING THE KIDS SAFE AND INLINE, NO GANGS THERE! The teachers are role models and inspirationalists. We moved on base and I wish we could have stayed with that school! It would have been worth the drive!

I have 2 children here at Amerischool. We have been to 1 private school prior to coming over to Amerischool. I have to say hands down the best school my kids have ever attened! The school is small. You have a personal relationship with ALL the staff and the Principal Mr. W. The teachers care about your child and their education needs. They are 100% hands on and there is always an open line of communication!!They have really great after school programs for being such a small school. Both of my children have thrived here. Its so amazing how they have just flourished. We will be moving this summer and the kids and I are both so sad to leave!! Great teachers best staff and one awesome Prinical. They truly care.

This is the first year my child has attended this school. I feel that even though the school is small, it makes for a very good environment for them to excel and learn. I feel that the teachers are able to offer more one on one mentoring with the children. Unlike bigger schools that have too many children in the classroom, it wouldn t be possible for the teachers to give them the attention they would need to hone their weaknesses. I liked that my child had homework every day and a project every month. This I believe will help them prepare for the next grade. I have seen my child improve in areas where she was weak. I like the school and the staff overall.

This and other charter schools are a good alternative to the public school system. The classes are capped off at 25 students, and some great teachers have taught here. (Teacher turnover is high) The administration is efficient enough as long as you don't question anything they or their kids ever do. You'll see bullying and unfairness just like anywhere else, and parent involvement in the classroom is not really welcome. The playground is tiny, no lunch is served, and the classroom temperature is often uncomfortable. But no place is perfect.

I have two children in AmeriSchools and have been pleased with all aspects of the school. I'm AMAZED that one parent would say that Mr. Wachunas interest in the children is 'superficial'. That has not been my experience nor have any of the parents I know (who have children there) expressed anything but satisfaction with Mr. Wachunas' involvement and caring. My children are younger and were dismayed by the playground when we initially drove by the school but they have never mentioned it again. It's a non-issue. When Winter Break was over, I expected complaining but they were happy to get back to school! For a school of this size, I am in awe of the involvement of the teachers and staff. They teach music and art at a time when other schools have cut them from their curriculum. They have drama and science clubs, etc.

Teachers are the best part of this school. The turnover has been a bit high in the past due to adminsitration issues, but if you need the best kinder teacher, you'll find her here. The principal seems in tune with the kids, but it's superficial. I think basic child psychology should be a must-have skill for all principals. As with any school, make it your job to know what and how your kids do each day by asking questions.

My son started attending kindergarten at AmeriSchools Academy last year. Our experience with his teacher, Mr. Cruz, and the school s principal, Mr. Wachunas, is exceptional. Mr. Cruz was very patient with him, and he always had a word of encouragement for my son. We are very thankful for the amount of care and attention that Mr. Cruz and the school s staff have given to our son. My son couldn t wait this year to go back to school. AmeriSchools puts a smile on my son s face everyday, and that is priceless. Maria Chaira

My son did wonderful this past year and I can proudly say he had a great year at AmeriSchools Academy. This was my sons first year of school and he did great! I believe Mrs. Young is one of AmeriSchools best teachers. I realized this when my daughter was also in her class when she started kindergarten as well. My children are very fortunate to have started their first school year with Mrs. Young. In the short time I've spent in her classroom I immediately felt the open communication she gives the students as well as the parents. I am very pleased with her classroom projects and academic curriculum. Mrs. Young teaches the children culture, diversity, manners and most important she teaches them respect. I believe it is important to introduce them to this at an early age. Thank you Mrs. Young, you are very much appreciated in our household.

Since Mr. Wachunas has become principal, this school has greatly improved. I was somewhat satified before, but now I am doubly satisfied with Amerischools. I have seen my daughter blossom, I wish I did not have to find a new school for her next year (Amerischools only goes to the 6th grade. Mr. Wachunas is a very involved principal, meets and greets the parents and remembers them. I appreciate when school officials remember which child is mine. Mrs. McCormack is another great influence there. I believe with her influence my daughter has met great strides. I believe this is the best school my daughter has been to (she has been to 2 public schools in Yuma, and a public school in Kansas).

Last year I was really upset, but decided to stay one more year. With the change of leadership and new staff it has been worth it. The staff that returned is excellent and the new staff are far better than most of those that left. The new principal is great and is committed to the school. The differences are like night and day. Hopefully, there will be little turnover this year and the principal will return. AmeriSchools has went from fair to great. Keep it going.

Overall, I am pleased with Amerischools for my daughter. After being displeased with a local public school and not finding middle ground for two years, we tried Amerischools. My daughter's grades have improved immensely. This year the new principal is very interactive with the students and parents. My daughter loves the new extracurricular activities available. Unfortunately, due to lack of enrollment of the higher grades, this will be her last year, as they only go up to 6th grade. I am not looking forward to putting her back into a public school where she is a number. Amerischools knows their students and recognize when a more individualized plan is needed.

My two children attend Amerischools and never have they complained about the staff, teachers or the fact there is 'no real playground' they seem to be happy and are learning what they should be learning at their levels, which satifies me. I like the fact that the new principal goes out of his way to make the children happy and seems to be very involved with the school. He minds the children's needs and acknowledges the parent(s) should a parent walk through the door or if he sees a parent in the hallway. I am happier with the new principal, and the kids love him too. I am glad he introduced the recreation clubs to the kids as well. Great JOB! Go Mr. Wachunas!

There is a large turnover of teachers every year because of the poor leadership and negative culture. Most teachers are certified, a few were highly qualified and talented. Beginning teachers are not fully supported and so struggle to reach all learners. One of our children excelled due to a creative and experienced teacher who facilitated a positive, caring culture in her classroom. The other did well, but her creativity was stiffled because of the tendency of the school to focus too much on standardized tests and a narrow curriculum. We were surprised that this occured at a charter school because in the past our children have attended charter schools that valued school culture and promoted a creative, child-based curriculum. Allowing students to skip grades entices many parents but it does not make a good school.

My children have been attending the school for 3 years now and I can truly say I have been very satisfied with their education. I have seen great growth in my eldest son who is an IEP student to the point of calling it a 'miracle'. When I have had concerns the teachers and/or the principal was available and attentive, willing to accommodate/problem solve to their best abilities. The teachers/principal are genuinely concerned for the well-being and academic growth of each and every student. In our 3 years here I have not experienced any negative situations with the staff or principal. In fact I find her to be a very effective and fair minded leader. The school offers a small class environment, skill level education, a caring staff and numerous benefits of a family oriented environment. My children love AmeriSchools, have grown academically while attending and look forward to several more years.

You can expect your child to excel due to the teacher to student ratio and the school curriculum; however, there are several downfalls. There is a high turnover of teachers which indicate that the administration lacks the required management skills. Another prevalent issue is: if your child is a 'high maintenance' child, then beware. The school principal will label your child as an Attention Deficit Hyper-active (ADHD) child. The principal and some staff will suggest that your child requires psychotropic medication in order for him or her to function in the classroom. The principal and some staff do not posses the necessary skills to cope with 'high maintenance' children at this school. Discipline is another issue. The principal and the superintendent make their own determination without prior consultation with the parents. Basically, the administration hides behind a shield of policies and statutes without regard to children and their families.

We had 3 children at Amerischools prior to moving to Connecticut. All 3 were challenged at Amerischools and fit in well with their appropriate grades when we moved. The teachers are most attentive, truly involved and the most flexible I have ever encountered. We have always said in comparison that the teachers here....although highly paid and compensated do not even come close to the caliber that Yuma Amerischools has. We enjoyed the variety in the classrooms, the discipline and encouragement. The lack of lunches at the time was well accounted for by the microwaves and fridges that were there and the fun Burger King Fridays. The parents are pleasant and all share the same interest due to the committment to driving their children for quality education. The children learn much that is life application. I recommend the school for anyone who is wanting something better than the regular schools provide.
