I personally think Charleston is a great school. Like every other school, it has it's pros and cons. If you're a shy person, Charleston is different than other schools. We greet you with open arms, the people here are fantastic and friendly. And the coaches, they're great teachers and because of their known status, everyone respects them, especially the football players. The student body is in every way smart thanks to the teachers and hard working students. Some grades have scored the top in Math or Literature in the Benchmark in Arkansas. And every group Charleston has, excells! The football team won the championship, woman's basketball team won the championship also. Also, the band scored an excellent at a contest. There are many others that I haven't included. the facility, student body, supporters, and more are all great people. Charleston is a great place.
I have been at Charleston for my entire school career, and to be completely honest, I hate it. Grades K-6 were great as far as education goes, but once I entered seventh grade, everything became centered around sports. Charleston definitely has a great athletics program, however school is NOT about athletics-- it's about education. I'm currently in my Freshman year, and the majority of my teachers are coaches. In these classes, we hardly ever learn anything from the teachers. Instead, we are assigned book work in which we 'teach ourselves.' I can honestly say that I am not prepared for college, and I am looking to change schools my Sophomore year. If you're looking for a school that is strong in athletics, but weak in education, Charleston High School is a great school for you!
I think the school is a great school and the teacher's are very good. I feel that the school board choose the teacher's with the studient's in mind. I'm a supporter of the school. and I am proud of it.
Charleston High School is a highly regarded school. They not only have the best test scores of any school around, they are excellent in all athletics. Contrary to what many post, they have tons of extracuricular activities. They have many clubs form business to Construction work related as well as spirit and church groups. Charleston is also a good school that isn't overrun with potheads. If there are any potheads, they are vastly overrun by good students. Charleston is in my opinion Top 5 in the state.
Charleston is an awesome school with high academic ratings. They take sports seriously and teach us to be a team leader. After saying all of that, i am proud to say that i am a student at Charleston High School.
Charleston is an excellent school system. Here we believe that all children can excel. Excellence in education is expected by the citizens of the community. This excellence is demonstrated by our test scores, both at the state and national levels. Our students also excel in atheletics and other extracurricular areas. We offer basketball, football, track, weightlifting, softball, baseball, cheerleading, dance, and golf in atheletics. Band and choir are offered for those musically inclined. Our school has received numerous awards for team sports, band, cheerleading, and dance teams. We are at the top of the list in school efficiency, benchmark scores, graduation rate, and also achieve at or above state and national averages on National norm referenced tests. Like all schools, there is still room for improvement. A successful school looks to the future and is not satisfied with previous success.
I also agree that this school's major problem is not having a wide variety of organizations and clubs or activities other than basketball, football, or track. Other problems within the school is the students, administration, and citizens comparing this school to the surrounding school and not the best in which we can acheive.
While Charleston does not offer a wide variety of sports related activities, it exceeds the average number of professional and academic clubs avalable at similar sized schools. Students do not only participate in these clubs, they excell when put into competion with other schools, regardless of size. It is my personal opinion that the community puts a great deal of emphasis on sports while the school tries to combat those pressures with academic type activites. While the administration understands the value of sports, they attempt to allocate their resources in a manner that allows the non 'jocks' to receive the same benefits. Overall, the school is in excellent shape, regardless of my spelling, but it has a hard time overcoming the pressures associated with the small community. Academically, Charleston is second to none, even compared to the larger schools which are suppose to be more 'efficient', according to the gov.
This school's only extreme problem is the lack of extracurricular activities! The sports department consists of basketball, football, and track related events! Where as schools like lavaca and greedwood encourage sports like volley ball, soccer, and tennis! Why dose charleston refuse to have these other sports! To try and open the windows of individuality and health to those students who don't fit the 'Jock' profile, but still wish to be involved! By not offering everything charleston has the obvious power to, they are leaving out a large part of of mine and many other young adults high school and lives careers! They are closing windows of oppurtunity for many young adults! So please if you read this, try and help us extend our horizions! Talk to Mr. Story, and Mrs. Moore! Tell them not to limit your childs career oportunity's! 'This tiny school leaves no room to grow, away from conformity!'
