I am the parent of one gruaduate of Decatur and a junior currently at Decatur. Decatur offers students opportunities to display their development and choice. No we cannot compete with the surrounding districts on a more rigorous or direct class offering, those things are limited, but that does not mean our children will not be able to compete in the gruaduated community. As a matter of fact many of our students are very successful community leaders. These challenges need to come from the home. Th parent involvement in Decatur is extremely small. Some parents have the feeling that our school exists for their convience and challenge is not what they want. Students often reflect their parents attitude and come to school with the attitude that the teacher has no right to ask them to complete task based on state department requiements. Too bad,Decatur will continue to offer a strong curriculum.
