This school is a great and exceptional school. They taught me everything I know from Math to English and everything in between.
Honestly Mills isn't that bad of a school. I went there all 4 years and I got what I think is the best education in Arkansas. A lot of other schools claim to have the best classes and best sports, but Mills has what I believe is the best honors program in the state. All of the teachers are more than dedicated to teaching and enhancing the lives of their students. The class sizes are smaller which creates a better learning environment. The orchestra is amazing (or it was when I was there) and they have plenty of club opportunities. The honors program was like a family for me. They truly do want the best for you and will do whatever it takes to make you go as far as possible in life. They can see the potential inside of you and somehow manage to pull it out of you even when you don't see it yourself. Yes the administration has issues. Yes the district has issues. Yes there's been plenty of accusations in the past. But I wouldn't have traded it for anywhere else. It's a great school for any kid in the honors program. It's more than worth whatever trouble you'll go through with the district. Your kid really will get the best out of the teachers.
The scholars program at Mills has some awesome, dedicated teachers. They go above and beyond to give the students every opportunity possible, DESPITE the lack of support from the very the district administration and school principal. Hopefully with the recent removal of this principal, school board and superintendent , significant change will occur in this very troubled school district.
I have to say this is a very disappointing school. and more importantly a disappointing admin. with a principal who has spent most of the past two years fighting with a school board and then running for a school board in Little Rock seems like what you have is a guy who doesn't care. it would be nice to see someone run this school who actually cares about it and not be so concerned about themselves and other districts the students are the ones who suffer. you have a principal who is always on the defense and is rendered useless. it is a shame
I think Mills is a great school, they offer tons of AP classes and have great AP teachers. I wouldnt send my son anywhere else.
I believe we have problems at our school but in the end the school is what we put into it so students who complain about how our school is its because of what we did not and not the making of our administrators. I love going to ills and plan on going far in my future.
The only thing good about Mills is the honors program. It's amazing. Other than that...
for its Academic Excellence in the Scholars Program and its outstanding faculty and students!
The Scholars Program at Mills High is one of the best of it's kind anywhere. Our graduates not only get into some of the best colleges and honors programs in the country, but are prepared to compete once there. I never tire of watching these young people achieve beyond anyone's expectations.
Mills really isnt that bad, it has a lot of faults, exspecally with the teachers. But they just need to learn to keep teachers, because of those teachers leaving i have lost credits for classes cause they didnt have teachers. Thats the only the they need to work on, besides the students and their drama.
Honestly, Mills isn't all that terrible. There are a lot of complaints about administration and the amount of work given to the students, but what they're not taking into account is where the school is centrally located and the amount of power administrators actually have over the students. Sure, they can follow the handbook, but for the fact that the non-TAG students are from the area (i.e., College Station) which is in a poorer part of the district, more of those students will be apathetic; there's not been too many fights either. Mills is also a hybrid school - it is both a magnet and public school, since it has both TAG classes and 'regular' classes. The TAG classes focus mainly on AP classes/tests and college, so of course the work will be more difficult and there would be more work to prepare the students for such obstacles.
Mills is 112 in the country. They had a couple students make bad test grades which affected the ranking. Other than that, the school is great! They really teach with passion, not by force :)
this school is horrible, filled with ignorant students and parents and teacherss. bad place to send your child.
Academically speaking this is an awesome school! A wide varity of classes are offered. The Scholars program teachers are the cream of the crop and go the extra mile to help the students succeed. Discipline is a problem because the district and school handbooks need an update with tougher consequences (sooner than later) for repeat offenders. The facility and technology systems need an overhaul. The students need help to bridge the gap between the scholars program students and the traditional program students. Communication between the school and the parents needs to be more of a priority (e.g. promising to send out announcements via email in January that has not happened, yet). The atmosphere of the main office needs to be more welcoming. Parent involvement is extremely low.
Horrible! The administration is the worst and they waste their time creating rules when they need to be enforcing the current ones. The amount of homework is more than needed.
I go to Fuller and I am going to Mills. Im in the TAG program at Fuller in seventh grade. Mills is a Nationaly Recognized school. The security is good and at Mills we get college credit. Mills is a top notch school. They have a pretty good sports program and education is topnotch.
This school was a big disappointment. Although it is promised that your student will 'excel,' the only thing that goes on is a lowered self esteem and a hard time in school. The administration only enforcing rules when they are convenient or making exceptions on who is punished is another bad quality. I know that I would not send any more of my children to this school, and I took my student out as soon as possible, and he has since improved remarkably.
The administrators at this school are some of the worst. The school's office is not organized; the office monitors are more helpful than the secretary.
