Looking for an area to buy

addleia February 22, 2010

My husband and I recently moved to AR from Louisiana. We have two small children and are wondering where the best place to buy is so that the kids will be in good schools. Thoughts?

Hi addleia, and welcome to the Little Rock Community on GreatSchools. I'm not from Little Rock but I definitely wanted to make sure you got an answer to your question. I'd highly recommend you talk to a few real estate agents about which areas have the best schools. Hands down, people in real estate are a great source for highly sought out neighborhoods with phenomenal schools.

You can also look at the "Find a School" feature in the upper toolbar and type in the city where you're moving. From there, you can look for schools with high scores and great parent reviews.

Good luck with your home purchase, and let us know how you're doing.

Hi Addleia,

My wife and I just moved to Little Rock a little over a year ago and were in the same situation you were. Unfortunately, the school district in Little Rock is fairly chaotic. There are only a few good public elementary schools and a few good middle and high schools in Little Rock. If you don't mind living outside the city limits a little ways, Bryant has an excellent school district. If you want to be in Little Rock, Baker Elementary School in West Little Rock is the best elementary school in LR, and then there are two more right behind it in "The Heights." Let me know if you want more information or if you need help finding a place to rent or buy (I work in that field). Good luck and welcome to Little Rock! We are absolutely loving it here and hope you will too.

I would recommend looking at the magnet elementary schools. You'll find some of, if not the best test scores in the entire LRSD based on this year's benchmarks, at some of the magnet schools, Williams Traditional Magnet in particular. Admission is via lottery and you can attend these magnet schools regardless of where you live in Pulaski County. Contact the Magnet Review Committee for more information.
