I love this school because it taught me a great deal about things I would encounter in the world and how to use the education received to react and respond accordingly.

Marvell High School gave me more than just an education, it instilled in me a sense of pride in myself and my hometown. Everyone that graduates from Marvell are well equipped to pursue any career in any field and are well prepared to attend any college or university; whether it be an HBCU or an Ivy League institiution.

Upon my daughter and I returning to Marvell from North Carolina, her class was going over work she had already mastered the year before. I have been very disappointed with the education system. Issues include overcrowded classes; mixing of middle school age children with upper classmen; lack of classroom management skills and effective teaching techniques by staff; and suspension of student for infractions with no alternative means of continuing the education process (community center placement, real alternative education). There are no extracurricular activities for elementary students which lends to no progression to high school (i.e. band, drama, sports, clubs, etc.) These activities normally serve to motivate students and enhance learning. Activity periods no longer exist and athletes are penalized for participating in sports. Parent involvement is very limited. It is verbally solicited but there is no welcoming atmosphere. There is a desperate need for an organized parent group (PTO/PTA) with staff support.
