The school administrator are allowed to badly label students and continue to sat the children up to fell. And they only want the smart children parents involvement. They had nothing in place to help slow learners nor do the teacher have extra time to help those children the teacher just allow those students to fall behind..
Maumelle High School is an amazing school with the greatest teachers and administrators in the state! They are the only school in the district that is offering Academy Training to better prepare students for college and the workplace. To date they offer 27 college hours for students... YES 27... I would like for you to find another school that can compare!
For anyone looking at these ratings, please be aware that the vast majority of the reviews you are seeing are for the school that Maumelle High replaced. It is unfortunate that this profile is a carryover of the former school and not a true reflection of the current school. MHS is in only its second year under a new principal who has vision and fresh ideas. The future is bright for MHS.
To the public eye, Maumelle may not be the best school to some people. Currently, I am a student at Maumelle High and to me it is a great school. Sure, there may be behavior problems- all schools have them. As a student in all Pre-Ap classes, I see very few. The problem to me is some of the teachers. Don't get me wrong, most teachers are GREAT and they definitely love their job. There are a couple, however, that couldn't care less... mostly in the math department. Coach Beaver was a great teacher... the rest aren't so great. I love all of my classes besides math, and while math used to be my best subject, it's now my worst. I find that the resources we receive help very much, though, so I still remain with straight A's. The students that care at our school are some of the best you'll see... it's the ones that don't care that give us a bad rating. So if all else fails, take Pre-Ap classes!
Maumelle High School from a structural stand point is a very nice building but that is about the only positive comment I can make. There are definitely some fine teachers but the poor behavior seen in the classrooms is so disruptive to the learning process. I know because I subbed here and at the middle school. Unfortunately, the rotten apples ( of which there are many) are allowed to ruin it for the kids who actually want to learn. The academic standards are below what you seen in many other states( I have lived in at least 5 other). This is due to the fact that they lower the standards to accommodate the under performing students which constitute about 50% of the school population. Not sure how this can be remedied except perhaps limiting school access to those students who could care less about being there.
This school is AWFUL! I have 2 children who have attended this school since they opened. The first year, I hoped the problems we were experiencing to be just "kinks" due to the school just opening. Unfortunately, time proved that not to be the case. Overall, this school has just gone further downhill. The administration seems to be very preoccupied at covering their tails. Hiding their mistakes and minimizing the violence that takes place daily in this school seem to be all they can handle. Many good teachers who were actually engaged and invested in the students were let go in lieu of faculty that is willing to turn a blind eye to gross negligence and shady practices regarding test scores. On any given day, they cannot even account for a students presence. It would take 12 times the allotted space for me to address all of the problems this school has. I'm sure there are a few in the administration that are wonderful. Too bad they are overwhelmed by those who could not care less. Have your student take random videos of their time in this school. You will be shocked at the utter chaos and level of discord in this "learning establishment".
so , my student was accused of ''sagging'' . the security gaurd Clevland , the darker one is always picking on him . my son doesn't sag , this makes no sense cleveland took my son's phone once before , every since then it's been tragic . this makes no sense , this school principle doesn't follow school rules !!!! worst school ever
I am a graduate of OGHS and now a teacher. I am sad to see Oak Grove close. I know Maumelle High School will be a state of the art school, but it will never have the spirit and pride of Oak Grove. I believe the faculty and staff at OGHS truly care about the students and have done fabulous job. Although my children will never get the opportunity to attend OGHS, I would send them without a second thought.
i love it! i attend now and its my second home, Oak Grove is what you make it. If you want to learn and get the most out of it you will. I will be part of the last class to graduate from Oak Grove this year (2011) and i can speak for most of us that we are sad to see the school go. I love it here and cant imagine going anywhere else. Yeah the school has some problems but what school doesn't. OGHS has taught me so much more than knowledge and im proud to be a part of the last graduating class of Oak Grove High School :)
I miss it! I went their for two years. I went when I was in seventh grade when it was still a jr./Sr. High school and I went in tenth grade. I miss the school immensily and I know the impact it had on not only my life but my brother's as well. I used to have a lot of behavioral problems. I almost got expelled my seventh grade year. I just kept gettin in trouble. In tenth grade I had a chance to make ammends. Now I have been to lots of schools and I just know that out of all the schools I went to this one helped teach me a lot of stuff, like how to rap, how to chew dip, how to play football, how to write, how use english effectively, how to live period. I
I had heard awful things about this school. Regardless I trusted God and allowed my child to attend. I must say that Oak Grove has a family oriented environment and the teachers, principals, and counselors (Mr, Matlock) really seem to care. My child has received so much favor since being here. If your child is a good student and you are a involved parent your child will be happy here. The school is old... But who says old things can't have great value. High school kids need involved parents too. I think Oak Grove is special. When they build the new school (2011) I really believe it will be sad if they changed the name. I truly hope that the spirit of Oak Grove remains. Thanks Oak Grove. We Love you!
I believe that Oak Grove is improving. I believe that the administration is working hard to make it a great school. The problem with OGHS has been that the leadership at the PCSSD has allowed it decline. Theproblem with Oak Grove is the PCSSD. Until the county has leaders with a vision all of the PCSSD are doomed to struggle.
I feel that Oak Grove is a decent school. As a graduate of the school, I feel I was well prepared for college, as I am currently in Nursing School at one of the most difficult programs in the state and making excellent grades. Many of the teachers are exceptional, however some are not too great. I feel that is a problem at any school, though. Many of the problems at the school stem from uncooperative students and the teachers being extremely limited on how they are allowed to discipline them. The students know this and take advantage of it. Overall, I feel this school does an excellent job of preparing students for college and life, if the student is willing to learn and put forth the effort it takes to make it.
Oak Grove is a great school it has its ups and downs but what school doesn't? It has hard working teachers and one of a kind students.
I am not pleased with this school at at. This school is lacking in many departments. Needs help!
As a student at Oak Grove High School I feel that it isn't a very good school. Most of the students at the school just don't really care about their grades and the test scores are terrible. There is also a lack of support from the teachers. There are a few good teachers, don't get me wrong, but the majority show lack of control over their classes, uneducational assignments with know intellectual knowledge whatsoever, and are often unprepared for the class. With the lack of support from the teachers, and even from the parents, how are the students supposed to want to have good grades and do their work? Only about 60 percent of the 2006 class is graduating this year and I think that is completely unacceptable.
This is in need of major improvment. It is sad that when it rains the school floods all over the place. What is even worse is that even in the classrooms it floods. I can say that the school does have a wonderful music program, and i would say one of the best english departments in the district. Also the principal is a very good man he does his best to insure that all of the children get a fair and good education, but the assistant principal shows favoritisum and has very bad communication skills. Me and several other parents feel that he is not an asset to the childrens education. When discipline problems occur he doen't try to hear the side of both childrens stories, and he gives the harshes punishment for the littlest offense.
all of us at oak grove need to make the school better but all those people who say there worried about our education don't do nothing about it.
