Sports are always available--almost to an excess. Art and other endeavors have taken a back seat. Music has suffered but will recover with the right teachers at the helm. Parental involvement is what should be considered minimal to average. Many decisions and funding issues have regularly been made without the input of the community, which have a definite vested interest. These schools have caring employees which are at the mercy of less than caring administration. A shame since there are many children which are 'at risk' and need the extra advantages of excellence in education. I submit that Little Rock is not watching the needs of those in the poorer, less advantaged areas and thereby does a great injustice to those children who can least afford to lose out.

This Elementary is doing an awesome job. I'm glad we are up to standards. I'm very thankful to have these dedicated teachers. I just wish we could take them with us to High School!

I would like to comment on Piggott Elementry as a former student, a former volunteer, a former substitute, and a parent of an incoming kindergarten student (fall '05). I have known this school for most of my years. The teachers are above average; I know this because I have encountered other elementry schools in central Arkansas. At Piggott Elementry the level of commitment is bumped up. The administration, the faculty, the staff, and the parental volunteers work together to form an incredible environment for both educating and nurturing. I feel I've benefited from my early education, my work, and my child will benefit from this institution. I encourage all who are considering Piggott Elementary as the place to educate their child to spend a day there. You'll see from the dedicated people to the sparkling clean facility that nothing is spared to see that 'no child is left behind'.

I disagree with the previous comment. I have two boys in the Piggott School District. Neither one of them are straight A students and have trouble with writing and spelling. The teachers are excellent and understanding of their problems. Mrs. Joan Gossett is also an excellent principal. She is always available if I need to address concerns to her and she has control of the behavior of the students at the school. I feel the work is hard, but that is needed to challenge our children and if we want them to do well in college they will have to do work that is challenging. The benchmarks are Arkansas mandated..not just a Piggott thing. I think Piggott Elementary is an excellent school with great teachers and administration.

Piggott Schools are very challenging for every grade level. The work these children are doing is way to advanced. There are too many demands placed on them with the benchmark test. The teachers do teach well but they lack kindness and understanding. If your looking for a better school I suggest you do not pick Piggott. We are moving in order to get our children out of this horrible nitemere of a school. Trust my words...Run as fast as you can to another school district.
