My daughter attended Belair Elem. for two years. Overall, I was pleased with the school although it seemed to me a bit overcrowded. Focused, firm, but very fair, principal, decent curriculum. A couple of great 6th grade teachers (Mrs. Vernice Meadows in particular). To me, the majority of the teachers seemed to be more involved with disciplining the children than with developing the curriculum. Particularly rambunctious group of kids overall(as witnessed during visits to the school), so to a degree I understand the challenge. I do think that the school needs to place more focus on developing INTERESTING more accelerated curriculums, particularly for the advanced students. 6th grade is a pivotal year. A year when the kids either get TRULY interested in school or start to LOSE interest. The Gifted program provides an outlet, but does not offer the challenges necessary for accelerated children to truly thrive. Overall, a decent school.
