My family and I believed it would be wonderful for our children to attend a small school in a country setting. Quitman Public Schools has been a terrible experience. If you are not born and bred here, you are an outsider and the teachers and administration will not accept you. It also appears that most of the money in the country stays at the county seat. Very little improvements and the basketball gym is pathetic. Other schools in the area have new gyms, but they are located in other counties. Again, it appears all of the money for Quitman School stays in Heber Springs. Several of the classes do not have text books and the students are at a huge disadvantage if they need to find examples to work homework problems. This is a huge problem in alebra.
We now have a new elementary principal, high school principal, and superintendant. These changes were very much needed and have so far done nothing but improve the atmosphere of the school. The teachers seem so much happier to be working under this great leadership. Despite the failure of the mileage increase, the faculty and staff are pressing on to make sure that our children get the best education possible.
Quitman schools is a small school. It food is average and the gym is small. They have just installed a new gym floor and brought in new cafeteria seating. They have removed the coke machines and snack machines to make room for fruit drinks and granola bars. Overall, Quitman School is average.
This is the greatest school that I have ever been to. I will never ever go to another school. The extracurricular activities are great even though we don't have a football program. The faculty and staff are great and will not judge.
Given the right last name Quitman offers quality educational experience. Without the proper last name your child will have to struggle to fit in and be excepted by the administration. The teaching staff consist of some of Arkansas's finest and a few that should seek early retirement. The Superintendent and Elementary principal seem to fight every effort of the parents to make it a better school. Hopefully, with the formation of the new PTA the administration will be more open minded to the views of the concerned parents. The school is completely lacking a football program and other athletic activities are suffering as well. With the one exception of golf. Our kids now have to carry their lunch due to the poor quality of the cafeteria food. Possible loss of the Old Main building deeply concerns many citizens of Quitman. The present is grim but our future is looking brighter. thanks.
