This school in my opinion does not acknowledge it's African American students on their accomplishments. The majority of the teachers as well as the administration demonstrate to me some prejudice toward the African Americans. They do not show love & concern to our children of color & will not go the extra mile to recognize them. They're only concerned about the money they receive from the dept of education. One important fact is during black history month the teachers do not educate and concentrate on the black cultural.

SCHS is awful. As a senior, I'm extremely dissapointed in the school's academics...Football is first, and academics is the least concern. I feel like I've wasted so much of my time here. I wish I had some more qualified, responsible teachers who weren't extremely biased. The staff here is a joke. It is extremely difficult to get anything taken care of; organization is awful and confusing. The students here are not being prepared for college. Coaches take up half of the staff here and most of them sit and wait for the day to end. I cannot think of nearly anything that SCHS could be notable for. We seriously need some better management here.

I have very mixed feelings about Star City. My children have all gone to school there and two are successful, One is not. There are many fine teachers there and then there are some who just don;t care. One is late everyday and gives beer parties for the students, but nothing is said to her. There are far too many coaches and while some are actually teaching , others sit around and talk on their cell phones. Students who don;t behave in class are allowed to disrupt because the administration is afraid of the parents. There is too much of the good ole boy system here. Special preferences in hiring go to the relatives and friends of the administration. Three highschool teachers have either been pregnant and unmarried or their girlfriends were pregnant in the last two years. Is this the example we want for our kids? It's a mess!

I personally hate the school. Both junior and senior high schools are very judgmental. My brothers did some things they were not supposed to do to the school, and ever since then I have received judgment from the teachers. There are a handful of people who do not judge me from what my brothers did, and that is because they probably don t know we are related. And as for the work, our school is ludicrous. The funding only goes toward football and basketball. Now don t get me wrong, I love the sports, but the band and things get jacked!

I am a parent of two Star City Middle School students and I have a few complaints about this school. I too have found the teachers tend to send homework home that the work has not been explained and the student has no idea how to do it. My husband and I have been out of school for a while now and work full-time jobs as most parents do; I too find it very annoying when the teachers send it home for the parents to teach the child. If I wanted to be a teacher then I would have received my teaching certificate and I would be teaching. When I am at work, I am required as an employee to do my job and perform the job at my best so I tend to expect the same from teachers after all that is what the teacher is being paid for.

In my opinion, Star City is very biased. I go to school there, so I know how it is first hand. Here is the thing, you have to be kend to a teacher or liked by the teacher to actually be treated desently by certain teachers. I have a wonderful geometry teacher. She cares so much about her students and their grades. Its just that the students don't always care. Sports are a main focus here at this school, but we do try our best at our school work. Most of my graduation class work their butt off and do not get any recognition for it. So as far as the teachers go, don't always blame them, know your child and then you can make an assumption. Then get down to the root of the problem. I can say this as someone who doesn't really like the school, and mean it.

I feel like the staff at SCHS only want the money. Grades should come before discipline.

FootBall is the one thing that this school is all about. If you ask a player of the team what did they learned some will bring up football before what they learned in class. I have one in Star city and 2 in Sheridan. Let me tell ya The oldest I have in Sheridan also went to Star City. And she said that most of the stuff she is learning now is nothing compared to what she has learned in Star City. The teachers in Sheridan take the time to listen, help and explain. I had problems talking with the teachers in Star City Schools about my childs grades or about the home work that was sent home for my child to do. My child said mom this is my home work, they really did not explain how to do it. Star City Schools could do better.

I am a grad of SCHS. They do focus on football a lot, but no more than any other school. I feel it is an excellent school. I was never behind in any of my college classes. Your high school experience is all what you make it. The people that want to say bad things about this school prob didnt participate in anything. Parents who have neg thoughts about this school, prob are not very involed. I am very proud of where I recieved my education and would be proud to send my daughter to SCHS

The email addresses the teachers gave us at the beginning of the year all are not useable. They are being returned. We were told that there is not a mid-9 week report...I believe this makes Star City HS the only one in the state that doesn't. We were told tutoring sessions were available and my daughter wasn't allowed in the building one of the mornings to be tutored. The teachers assigned to her seem to be very untrustworthy and cannot seem to keep their stories straight. We have not received any test scores, grades, nothing yet this school term. This could be the child's fault but without the ability to contact the teachers, how would we know?

I am a graduate from SCHS and believe that they are making the necessary academic improvements needed finally. When I graduated, there was only a few AP classes. Since I left they have began offering many more. I agree with the emphasis being placed too highly on the athletics. SCHS does have the ability to be great because they do have several fine teachers. Parents just need to get more involved in board meetings and express their desire for a better education because when I began college I did not feel that I was on the same level as several other students coming from other schools.

From what I can tell no one here said SC was a bad school. Yes people had complaints and yes a generalization never covers all kids. There are great kids at SC. There are also kids that seem determined to cause problems. Since Grady was consoladated the problems have gotten worse, although the principals seem to have their hands tied because of course SC doesn't have a gang or drug problem. It seems some of the higher ups are afraid someone will get offended if certain kids are made to mind.

I am currently a schs senior. And I love it! the star city school district has made me into the student i am today...and i wouldnt change anything about my education thus far. I take all of the many ap courses offered, i am an honor graduate, on rocket staff, and i have a 30 on my act.(i dont think i have accomplished this because the academics at star city are poor) I attended every football game this season and though we did not have a winning year, devoted fans still turned out for every game! I love the bulldogs and the support the boys are offered through the coaching staff is phenomenal. And yes, usually the complainers are those who are jealous. Go Dogs!

I am a graduate of Star City High and I would like to say AMEN to the person who wrote on how SC puts athletics first and academics second. I am in my 3rd year of college now and could not begin to tell you how far behind I was when I started college, especially in mathematics. SC focused on mainly FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL! They give little recognition to band, chior, softball, or boys basketball. I like SC and don't get me wrong I know every school has flaws but SC could be a magnificent school if they focused a little more on acedemics.

Star City High School has been phenomenal. Whatever faults you may find with the importance of the athletic program, is shadowed by the importance placed on success of special needs students. If there is grade inflation, I am unaware of it. My son is an honor student and he earned it. He is self disciplined about his school work and I expect him to earn his grades - as a parent I would never allow the practice of 'making a stink' about a grade for him to excel. As parents we are responsible to see that our children are 'making the grade' and if the school is not paying attention - attend a school board meeting. I love SCHS!

Star City has the potential to be one of the best schools in the state, but athletics is god and academics has to take a back seat. The school is overloaded with coaches, many of which care only about athletics, not about any other courses they may be teaching. The administration seems to be more interested in filling out papers and hiring coaches than actually making sure the students learn anything. The school has been accused of grade inflation and it does exist. Some kids expect A's even if they haven't done the work, and if they don't get them they raise quite a stink. Over all SC needs to buckle down and put academics first. There need to be fewer coaches and more good qualified teachers. Finally students need to be held accountable for their grades and rules need to be inforced (discipline here is really bad). Wake up SC.
