After reviewing public and other private school options, our family chose Emmaus Lutheran, and we are very satisfied with our decision. The staff is extremely nuturing and kind. I feel that my son is learning at a solid academic pace and given a lot of individual attention due to the excellent teacher-student ratio. In addition, the kids in his class just seem like really nice kids, a fact I attribute to good supervision by the staff and teachers. I have another child in the pre-school program, and we are especially delighted by the progress the patient and consistent teachers have made with him. Overall, Emmaus offers a solid academic program coupled with a nuturing environment.
My son started attending Emmaus at 3rd grade after attending a local public school. We noticed a sharp difference between the public schools and a Christian private school. The staff & teachers at Emmaus are loving & friendly. They are honest with the parents about their child's progress and will work with the parents & students. The volume of school work is not that much different from the public schools, but the difference is that the higher level of academics the students are exposed to. For example, handwriting at Emmaus is taught starting in the 2nd grade, unlike the public schools that start handwriting in the 3rd grade. Some of the novels covered in the 6th-8th grade are the same novels covered at the local high schools. Emmaus really works to prepare their students for high school. Being a private school, they are not bound by the policies and procedures of a school district, and therefore have a little more freedom to do things. For the teachers & staff, it is not just a job to them. They are genuinely driven by God s love . . . great teachers & staff, great academics, family environment. I'm really going to miss this place after my son graduates this year!
Emmaus Lutheran School is a great place for academics, character development, and extra-curricular activities. I graduated from Emmaus myself, and when I went to highschool I was very well prepared for the academics--in fact I felt highschool was easy and many of my teachers were surprised to see how well I could write and noted that I must have had a great elementary school. Many of the top students from my highschool came from Emmaus--which is a small school, which shows how well they prepared us for the years ahead. I also learned how to be well-rounded because at Emmaus they offer so many extra-curricular activites and everyone gets to be a part of them... from drama, to choir, to handbells, to sports, to cheerleading, and even student government--I get to be a part of it all. And of course the most important lessons I learned there were the spiritual truths found in the Bible. With such loving and Christian teachers it truly is a place where students can grow and develop in the knowledge and the love of the Lord.
Emmaus is a great place, my daughter loves the place, the teachers are wonderful. However, in terms of academics, they are deficient. The academic level that a private school should have is not reflected at this school. Their computers are outdated, with a promise of a new lab that is costing the school excessive money. Science is lacks hands on activities, and the math program is out dated. The school has not have a book adoption in any subject for many years. I know the books my son was bringing are from the 70's. It is a great place, because it has great kids because those are great kids even before they enter Emmaus, but not because the academic program made them that way.
I have 2 sons who have been attending this school since Pre-K. The older child is going to 7th grade, the younger to 2nd. I have been very content with the academics here because the curriculum is very well rounded and the teachers cares deeply for the students. I have spoken with parents that have kids attending Emmaus and they all feel the same way I do. Other parents of kids in public schools usually boast their kid's math test scores but that is all they would say. I do not believe my kids' success in school should be based on their scores in math or 1 to 2 subjects. My objective for my sons to get from their elementary education is a balanced program that teaches them about our world and environment, kindness towards others, and this school is giving them and thru a Christian based value system.
Emmaus Lutheran School is a place where the teachers encourage, inspire and motivate the students to do their very best while finding constantly new ways to bring fun to the learning process and instilling a sense in the students that success in life is not limited to the academic area but is based on a value system to live life well and to have compassion for others.
My child's teacher really cares about her. The individual care that she has been given helps me to know that I made a good choice for my child!
Great Faculty, very loving and caring teachers, beautiful and charming campus. The students are very well mannered. My daughter loves the school.
