There are many excellent public, private, and Roman Catholic Schools in the area. This is not one of them. This parish is not recognized by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, rather it is a part of Society of St Pius X. According to their website, "The SSPX was founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in the diocese of Fribourg, Switzerland..." While this church advertises itself as promoting traditional catholic values, beware if fundamentalism and rigid gender roles is not what you are looking for. To their credit, they are honest about this and do not misrepresent themselves as many other "rogue Catholic Churches" often do. You can go to their website for more information, but the following quote explains the reason they broke off from what most recognize as the Catholic Church, i.e. Roman Catholic, which is led by the Vatican.
"This over-emphasis on the natural power and dignity of man has, in turn, encouraged the modern trends of religious liberty, ecumenism, and collegiality along with numerous liturgical abuses. All of these problems are clearly identifiable in the texts of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65)."
Kudos to being forthright about the break from the Roman Catholic Church and he reasons why. However, I thought this information would be helpful for those looking for a Catholic school.
I have three children in this small school (60 students) and consider it to be a Godsend for this Southern California family. The teachers are among the kindest and most selfless people you'll ever met. The school follows traditional catholic values in every way, and teach sacrifice and discipline in a sweet happy environment. They also teach music, arts, and public speaking as a bonus. The families are true Catholics that live simple and peaceful lives. I've been QUITE impressed.
This is an excellent Catholic School. If you want a Catholic school which disregards all discipline, look elsewhere, or send your kids to public school. Its not perfect, not heaven, and has normal issues any school may face or have, however this is a top notch school, where children are actually formed to become mature and responsible adults as opposed to indoctrinated into the culture of selfishness and irresponsibility prevalent at both public and Catholic schools today.
I pulled my child from this school because as a first grader they would not allow her to use the restroom during Mass. She had an accident in Mass twice. They also let her sit in her wet uniform all day so that she was humiliated and came home smelling of urine.
