The school has a rigorous curriculum, so students with disabilities need intervention quickly. Over the past five years they have worked to increase the support services for students with learning disabilities. There are dedicated reading specialists for grades 1-5 and an Academic Support Center for the Middle School students. Most of the teachers at the school are full of empathy and care about the well-being of the children as well as their academic progress. Teachers are encouraged to look at student learning plans and to actively use the accommodations.
It should be noted that even with all of this support in place, the school work is still challenging for LD students because of the fast pace of the curriculum.
Great education, staff, faculty, college counselors & administration. College placement is unbelievable! It has been a good fit for my children. Small classes and feedback from faculty is excellent.
As a parent, I am so happy with the faculty, staff and administration. Problems are addressed instantly and solved very quickly. Every parent is treated with respect and Administration is very open to listening to any concerns. I have my two other children at another local Catholic Elementary School where problems snowball to the point where parents reach their boiling point. This is why I can appreciate SHP so much ! Great academics and small classes.
Be sure your child is a good fit for this environment. The school is not interested in children who are even slightly outside of their mold. They do not live the first goal of their mission statement ("a personal and active faith in God"). The school has some good teachers, but I do not have confidence in the school leadership.
I am currently an 8th grader a SJSH and I absolutley love it. The school has a wonderful staff that is really welcoming. SHS is such a cmmunity that most everyone knows each other which creates a really relaxed environment for learning. Sure some people might come on a little too strong, but every school has that. I have gone to many schools before St.Joe's and I can honestly say I like ths school the most I can also say that I will definetly be attending Sacred Heart Prep next year! Go Gators!!!!
Always getting better, SHP is a getting better every year. Although the previous reviewer may feel that there is a lack of religious temphasis at the school, the fact is they are much more open to all ideas, and while they teach Catholic views and history, they do not force it upon kids. Their open view makes the schools great for kids of any religion, including non religious kids such as myself.
This school used to be good; I have seen a huge deteriorization of this school...I have since moved all of my 4 kids out to a different local Catholic school. Until this school returns to its old form of sound, fundamental teachings of religion, what is good and moral, and just plain old good academics, there is no way I can recommend this school.
Sacred Heart Prep is wonderful. They have 5 goals 1. A personal and active faith in God. 2. A deep respect for intellectual values. 3. A social awareness that compels to action. 4. the building of community as a Christian value. 5.Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom. I am pleased beyond my expectations. Class size is 8-12. The teachers are all highly educated, well qualified and approachable, they always make time for extra help. Their goal is to help each student reach their greatest potential, and enjoy high school at the same time. Their athletic program is wonderful, and quite extensive for a small school, so just about everyone makes a team and plays. They have all drama, dance, photography, ceramics, debate and lots of other clubs, too many to list here, extracurricular activities, including an exchange program with other Sacred Heart schools all around the world with other Sacred Heart schools.Parent participation is high and always welcomed.
