Academically Garces is a great school. This is a top notch high school. Our son just graduated from Garces and it was impressive to see the statistics for the class of 2010. 98% of students will attend 4 year universities; over 28% of the class had GPAs higher than 4.0. The school provides a great environment for kids to grow and learn. The only criticism we have is that there is a small group of students who are involved in drugs and alcohol consumption and the school does not do more to stop this behavior. Again this is a very small group. We did not make heavy contributions nor took any financial aid and found great support from teachers and faculty. We will be sending our other two kids to Garces when the time comes.
Garces Memorial High school offers a rigorous courseload and the finest teachers in not only Bakersfield, but Kern County. It is therefore not a surprise that the institution sends its students to some of the most prestigious universities in the nation.
The best academic school in the Central Valley - high moral and academic standards. We are not one of the wealthy, social climber families, or one of the families on financial aid, we fall right in the middle - yet we have been treated with such kindness and caring from day 1. The workload is challenging, but our child who takes all AP and Honors courses is receiving literature from some of the best universities in the nation. The personal family feel of this school makes this entire experience wonderful. Top notch teachers and administration, faith-filled and prayerful days, all make Garces Memorial one of the best schools around.
I loved attending this school. Great teachers and parent involvment. Worth the money
The academics at Garces Memorial High School are excellent. A wide variety of extracurricular activities are available. The parents are highly involved at the school also.
While not a magic bullet, Garces provided my daughter with a fine education. What makes Garces special is that, in general, the students are highly motivated and there is tremendous parental involvement. The faculty tries very hard to get to know and meet the needs of the students. Although we did not make any significant financial contribution, I did not experience any problems having my daughter getting all the attention she needed. Given the state of the public schools here, any parent serious about their college bound child's education should consider Garces first.
As a parent concerned about giving my child a religious education @ Garces would help my child. I found out, this was far from the truth. It seems the more money I contribute to their causes the more assistance I received. My child could not compete with the wealthier students therefore the education support became more of a financial problem. Also in sports as in education the students who have the best financial position are able to play ball.
