My daughter attends St. Dominic's preschool and we're happy she's there. She's learning Spanish, art, math and religion. The teachers are terrific. My daughter really enjoys going and the class size is small. We would like her to go to the elementary school once she completes her preschool education. In the long run, we believe a private education is better for her.

The new Kindergarten teacher is excellent. I love being part of a school where parent involvement is nurtured. Where other schools are cutting programs, St Dominics still has PE, Spanish, Art, and Music. We love the school and the teachers!

Too many students in one classroom. Yes, there is an assistant but the class size is enormous especially for the the younger grades. There is also no substitute when a teacher is out. So at times there is one teacher to a very large class size (I witnessed the chaos). The dismissal is chaotic. The children are running around when the dismissal bell rings with car traffic flowing. Not safe and someone is going to get hurt.

My son went to SDS for kindergarten and I wish I had sent him to Saint Basils in Vallejo. His kindergarten teacher should have been teaching high school because she certainly was not a nurturer. However, she did have two great aids who were her saving grace. I like the thought of a private Catholic education for my son but he was only 5 when he came home asking me if he was going to go to "hell" for saying a bad word. I found that he was already getting the Catholic guilt trips. Also, while the parent involvement is rich, the class size is large and their extension program lacks creativity.

For the record, the class sizes are large, but their is a full time teaching assistant in each classroom all day. The staff/faculty are wonderful, the children are held accountable for their actions (not so in the public schools), many different classroom activities for creative learning. I plan on keeping my children there through the 8th grade.

My 3 year old son started preschool in 2007 and has loved attending everyday from 9-12. The teachers are wonderful and I like the fact that a fire inspector and dentist have visited. They celebrate many cultural holidays from Halloween to Valentine's and this helps the little ones to make appropriate artwork and they have pyjama days too. I will definately be enrolling my next child too.
