INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I have a student in kindergarten and a 5th grader here. Both love their teachers and are enjoying themselves at the school. My one complaint is that they do have a lot more homework than we did when we were students (ages ago) but that's a reflection of changing social morays rather than school policy. All together, I think Bonsall is a 10 school and highly recommend it.

My child's school is really Awesome! She loves her teachers and the staff. The teachers have it together and the music program is great too. We are lucky to have music in our school. Thank you to all that help make this school a great school.

Wonderful teachers who care greatly about the children in their class. Principal and VP do an awesome job. Bullying is not accepted and the principal and VP take care of it right away. Front office runs super smoothly and I feel my children are extremely save at this school. My kids thrive in their class and both are grate A students. PTA is wonderful and improved tremendous. So glad my children attend Bonsall Elementary School. Couldn't be happier.

Our child is smart off the charts. Teacher calling us at night to follow up. Day care staff is stellar. Office staff is nice and Principal is awesome. Nurse could use a little more focus, really do not need to hear about the negative aspects of the day every time I come in to attend to my child. PTA is horrible to no end. Halloween function ran out of tickets for game play within the first hour! Pancake breakfast runs out of Pancakes an hour before it is over! PTA is the only reason I do not leave 5 stars. School has amazing dynamics set for learning and always goes out of its way to boost the child both academically and physically. I spend many days a week with our child in class and see what a work load these teachers have as well as a lack of budget to support their needs. I find the hand full of teacher I have had the pleasure to work with always positive and reinforcing moral codes. Great school and great location with unfortunate parking design. Just get there early because no one else does! GO BEARS

We are so lucky to have an incredible school like Bonsall Elementary in our community. I love everything about the school, from the teachers, the staff, the parent involvement, the PTA and the students. Bonsall Elementary is only 3 years old, which is absolutely wonderful that our kids get to attend a new, clean and extremely safe school. In addition, the after school care is top notch and affordable. My kids are so happy here-and so am I!

Although it is a beautiful, new campus, the staff at this school seem to lack both heart and motivation for encouraging students. There is a rush to complete work and an unhealthy focus on scoring high on tests, rather than a depth of understanding. With little to no art, and no music program that we have seen, there seems to be a void in creativity. As for communication from classroom or admin. to parent, it is minimal, at best. We have had our children in lower rated schools, and they received more attention and there was better communication. Also agree with other reviews about the borderline office staff, who generally treat the parent in a condescending manner. Yes, traffic is a nightmare, but as suggested, get there early to avoid the long lines. Good luck, because as a parent, you will have to do much instruction for your child to ensure

I love Bonsall Elementary School for many reasons. It is a newly rebuilt campus and is beautiful. There are some amazing teachers there who I count as friends. There is a very active and involved Education Foundation and PTA creating great programs that make a difference in our children's lives. We also have a wonderful superintendent and business manager.

The teachers really take an interest in the children and work hard on a daily basis to provide the best and most comprehensive education possible. The administration is diligent with finding solutions in difficult economic times and is constantly thinking outside the box for Bonsall Elementary. We have a great school and our kids are happy!!!

I love Bonsall Elementary for so many reasons. We are a small town school with such diversity and focus on education. Our teachers are a family and they continue to grow and learn so that our children can do the same! Our staff provides our children with the best education and no child goes without! We have great parent support in the classrooms as well as at every event we have! Our teachers and parents work well together to provide our children with everything they need! I cannot say how much Bonsall has done for our family and all the families in our community! Our teachers take the time to 'notice' our children and work with them in a very specific way! They always meet the needs both educationally and personally , of all our children. We have a great PTA, great Foundation, and one of the best Districts around. Our entire school community works together to ensure the best we can ! We love our school and if you ask any child there, they would say the same!

My two children (K and 3rd grade) attend this school. This is their 3rd school in a year (military) and they absolutely love it. They fell right in and most of the kids are very friendly. Great staff from the teachers to the daycare provided for a VERY MINIMAL price. I am very happy with the programs provided and field trips they take. My daughter just went to the Wild Animal Park . The morning time can be a bit crazy, but you can solve that by getting there 15 minutes early instead of waiting until the last minute. The kids can be dropped off up to 30 minutes early so there is no reason to deal with the traffic if you don't have to. And I have never seen a gate closed on a child. Again, this can be solved by getting there a little bit early!

We are new to Bonsall and so far my daughter likes her teacher as do I. One of the problems I have with this school is the morning mad rush by students to get through the gate before it is shut on them.I drop my daughter off at school 5 minutes until the bell rings and my daughter as well as other students feel the need to run to the gate. I have stayed and watched as students who get to their scholl just in time or seconds late have the gate closed on them. This is when the students have to get in a line to get tardy slips. Because of this line children are instead of 30 seconds to a minute late they become now minutes late. I have seen the gate keeper as they close the gate when children are less then 20 feet away.

I live in Bonsall and retired several years ago. I signed up to be a tutor for first grade reading. The teachers I became to know were really caring and the students I tutored seemed to enjoy the one on one. I think the teachers are great. There are quite a few volunteers here to help.

I have been taking my kids to Bonsall for 4 years now and the new school is beautiful. The security is a bit over the top with all 20 or so gates that are locked at all times just about. The traffic is a nightmare since they took the buses away and the new office staff really needs a review on common courtesy. They are just rude. The teachers are the best in the business and i guess that's what matter most.

We moved to Bonsall from a more affluent school district and had heard what a great district Bonsall was. Though my sons both loved their BES experience and we loved all the teachers, I must admit that I've been disappointed with the level of education at BES. It seems a bit behind what we are used to and I've been disappointed with the level of communication. I understand though, that without Mello Roos funds, there is only a small amount of money to fund the school. I think with what they have, they've done a great job though. I've been especially pleased with the arts programs and special events, which are important to a well-rounded education. It's the level of difficulty and the fact that I've never been asked to help in class that I question. Perhaps if parents had opportunities to volunteer, that could pick up the slack for teachers.

We are still trying to figure out what is so great about this school? From the P.T.A. who practically run the whole school thanks to poor administration to the lack of safety guidelines...Something has got to give? My own children have been hurt many times during recess, P.E., and even in the classroom and I have never received a report from a teacher or a nurse about what has happened. In any other school that we have ever dealt with or employer for that matter..There are accident reports written but not at B.E.S. Probably because they are trying to hide the fact that they do not hire playground supervisors. In fact they have parents in the P.T.A. sign up for what is called ' Peaceful Playground Parents'. These women are nothing more then common housewives gossiping together on the playground while poor Danny & Annie fall down and hurt themselves.

Our daughter attended K at Bonsall during the '06-'07 school year & I can't tell you how much we miss the school & teachers. We have moved to TX this past year & we are so frustrated with the school system out here. There was so much extra curricular activity @ Bonsall (Monster Mash, Daddy-Daughter Dance, field trips, etc.), out here there is nothing! Bonsall for us was caring teachers, xlnt curriculum, and FUN! Drop off & Pick up was a nightmare, but I mostly blame the impatient parents for that...kudos to the AM lady with the stop sign, she worked hard & tried to make it safer. We miss you Bonsall! -The Brittain-Swenson family

Where do I start? From the lack of leadership in administration to low teacher moral. There is absolutely no safety precautions for the children in this school. When they arrive at school and are discharged from school there are massive traffic jams and children unattended to. Upon pick-up anyone can pick up a BES student as they do not check any ID. Their transportation system is being run by a bunch of novices that do not even know what kids go where. The cafeteria is more interested in feeding the free lunch kids rather then the paying kids. Something has got to give at this place. No safety, bad administration and lack of concern on all staff members shoulders is how we all see it. The P.T.A. is even worse. Special privledges for P.T.A.. How sad!

For all of the great things I heard about BES, I have been very disappointed with my child's first year there. Not much involvement from parents in the classroom, but lots of fundraising efforts. No AP so principal has a lot going on. I am not impressed with administration and teachers and considering switching schools.

As a new parent to Bonsall elementary school I am favorably impressed in most ways. The principle seems to me to be very involved and supportive of students and staff and able to process discipline issues as well. The academic level is similar to other schools in the area but it seems to me the teachers are rising particularly well to the challenges presented to them.

Both of my children attended this school from kindergarten through 5th grade. Both of them qualified for GATE at the end of 3rd grade when they are tested. I have also been involved in the GATE committee since then. I have been very disappointed in the amount and level of GATE activities in the classroom. I've had to become very involved in order to ensure my kids were challenged. The music program including band and choir were very beneficial to both of my children although now they do not have a band. They do provide many outside programs for art and science if you are willing to pay for them. In general, parents are very involved and most teachers look forward to their help in the classroom.

Our daughter is in Kindergarten and so far the teaching has been average to good. However their have been some safety issues in terms of them losing track of our daughter. I have also noticed a lack of leadership from the top down. I do hope that it improves. The district is building a new school so I hope that they do not shortchange the existing school while the new one is being built.

Bonsall elementary has excellent academic programs, however I have found not all the teachers are top notch. Many of the teachers, if not the majority, don't support parent community/PTA events and I've also had difficulty reaching teachers by voicemail or email. Bonsall Elem. does have a great music and art program.

I think this school is wonderful. The amount of parental involvement and the leadership of the administration is excellent. At the first PTA meeting, the room was packed with involved parents. While I believe that the academic content has low standards, this is the reality of California education, and not the school in particular.

Well rounded school. 40-1 student techer ratio. Wide availability of art, music and sports. School encourages parent involvement. Main drawback - high percentage of low income hispanic enrollment. This tends to force teachers to teach at a slower pace for english and math in order to allow students with limited english skills the opportunity to keep up.

If you are a parent of a student at Bonsall Elementary School, you will agree that Bonsall is one of the best public schools in the county and perhaps even in the state. Although the superintendent and district administration have elected to put severely limited resources into charter schools and an un-needed community center, parents and teachers continue to make do with what little resources they are given. Despite an aging campus, the school lends to a superb learning environment. This excellent learning environment is a credit to the caring and dedicated teaching staff. Despite being severely underpaid when compared to other elementary schools in Southern California, the teachers continue to devote themselves to the students and perform an outstanding job in preparing our children for the future. Bonsall Elementary School is a great school, thanks to the teachers and the continuous support of the parents.
