Browns Valley School is a wonderful elementary with teachers who really care about their students. There is so much parent volunteering which also show pride for the community. With the many and on going budget cuts, BV continues to find ways for enrichment and physical activity, like our regular Zumba classes, in which parents and family members are welcome to join in.
My daughter transferred to this school from out of state last year... We were excited about the class size and the small size of the school thinking it would mean better instruction. Boy were we wrong! The positives: class size was nice; the school's parent calling computer was very informative about school changes. The negatives: The teacher... The teacher was completely inappropriate for the age groups. During a school dance, the modern "hip-hop" music with lyrics more in line to a Friday night frat party were not appropriate for 4th graders. My daughter came home singing tunes about wanting to take a boy home and show him a good time brough fear to my face--apparently the teacher was teaching the song to the students so they could sing it to the kindergartners at a talent show. After talking to the teacher she agreed to change the song to "I love rock and roll." Better, but c'mon, shouldn't 4th graders sing something like "lollipop" to kindergartners. There were a few more instances... We transferred my daughter out.
I have two children at this school. Both of which have had the same Kindergarten teacher. I delayed moving specifically so my children could both have this teacher. I consider her the gem of the district & she is tough, but very good. There is a lot of parent participation which is helpful for parents that cannot help out due to work schedules. I have worked with all the teachers except 6th grade (that is next year). My favorite is the 2nd grade teacher. The school has recently made many upgrades and has new classrooms with excellent equipment. The cafeteria however could use some help.
Few good teachers. Certainly not preparing these children for the future. Breeding sheep not leaders. The Principal the only bright spot here.
I am so sorry that we came to this school. On the internet it looks great. Good location. But so different inside. The kindergarten teachers treat the students with NO respect and run their classes like the military. They are always screaming at the children and shaming them. There is NO laughing in kindergarten and no room for creativity or flexibility. If you care about how your child is treated, avoid (kindergarten). We had better luck with a 3rd grade teacher.
I have been impressed the last 2 years I have volunteered at the school for 2 years now, and have been very impressed by the articulation between grades. Each grade clearly prepares the students for the next year and students surpass expectations. The teachers are great! I recommend it to everyone I meet.
My child has attended bv school since kindergarten, up until fourth grade, she did great, then had the same teacher for fourth and fifth....the teacher seemed overwhelmed and was often rude to the children..I am happy she is out of there....
